That's nice but you only have to read this forum, and even worse the embarrassing Facebook page associated with St Mirren, to see that there's an element that are a crowd of utter f**kwits.

David mentioned the lack of action by the police at yesterdays match, showing the difficulty in removing this element from the so called "support".

Unfortunately a small minority are bringing this sort of shite to the surface and it'll be seen/heard by others who will see it as acceptable.

It's always been in our support, mostly staying just under the radar, but there nonetheless.

This, among other issues, could easily be another factor in our dwindling support.

What sort of father/mother would encourage their son/daughter to attend an event where this sort of behaviour is being spouted by imbeciles?

I am not being pious here. Nor am I being naive. But - I do believe that there are many more decent fans within our support.

I agree about this and other general behaviour issues potentially impacting on our level of support - times have changed.

Obsessive and repeated swearing, obscene chanting and sectarianism or hate behaviours have no place at the game.

Those involved need to shape up or ship out.

My suggestion is that if the people involved can be identified, then advise the club authorities.

I for one don't want them.

Anyone who condones sectarian abuse are as bad as the person saying it imo. There's absolutely no need to shout sectarian abuse at Rae, there's plenty of other things to be unhappy about, him being an ex Rangers player & supporter is the least of our worries at the moment!!

I really don't care if Rae played for and is a Rangers fan. I really didn't care whether Tommy Craig played for Celtic or was a Celtic fan. I really didn't care that Alex Ferguson had played for Rangers and was a Rangers Fan. In other words, whether in times of success or failure it matters not one bit to me and I suspect most, if not all, fans of the Saints.

I have no time for sectarian, homophobic, racist or in fact any abuse heaped on managers, players or indeed other fans.

Supporting my team for me has never involved hatred of the opposition. Rivalry yes (Morton e.g.).

After all, there would be no game if you didn't have two teams on the park.

    Thanks PM.

Actually, I did enjoy standing in the North Bank before it became all seated

These days a seat is welcome.

Re swearing.  I am not a jolly hockey sticks type of guy but see no need for the constant torrent of swearing from what is, I  believe;  is coming from a small number of people l.

I don't think this improves the atmosphere and is something that we, as fans, can do to build our family and community identity.

Glad you agree in general on the other points. Would also like to say that there have been some great ideas and summing up of our present position by others on this thread.

Things may not be wonderful on the playing side but much is making progress in the wider sphere regarding the club.

HT - there's a team in there, somewhere.

When we play with purpose, and close the opposition down, we look dangerous. Decision making and final ball still wanting at times, but at least they look interested this afternoon.

I'm more confident with Gallagher in goal, and Langfield and Webster on the bench. Their goal was cheap, though, and resulted from poor positioning and a lack of concentration.

Not the worst I've seen this season by any manner of means, but we need to be more incisive and clinical in and around both boxes.

We've definitely got the beating of a very average side who are happy to try and hit us on the break. Anything other than victory today will be very, very disappointing.

Glad you decided to come along Drew, despite your earlier misgivings. A true fan and supporter in good times and bad. Agree with your summary

  5. Great thread and great posts.

Perhaps an opportunity here for Forum Members to make positive contributions with simple, low cost ideas for change.

To be fair, much has happened to reposition the club but these changes have run parallel to a period where success on the park has not accompanied these.

The status quo is not a viable option however. Managers come and go. Success is temporary. Fluctuations are built in to our DNA as a club of our size.

    Positives

The relationship with the University is working - perhaps we could encourage more students along but there has been progress.

The dome has encouraged more use of facilities.

Community work is developing. No doubt funding is an issue here but work has started.

Facilities have improved following the move to the new ground.Yes - I miss Love Street but that is nostalgia talking.

Sitting, at my age, is the preferable option and we are all seated.

The, apparently, much maligned pie stalls have also improved in numbers, range and service.

The 1877 Club has been introduced.

Kids area created, free tickets distributed.

I could go on, but won't.

What would I like to see?

I support the ideas already put forward on this thread.

If I had one wish it would be to make St Mirren's Ground the first Non Swearing Ground in the country as a voluntary action by fans.

Now that small change would change the atmosphere and costs nothing.

Yeah , but in our history it's never been as bad as the third tier , and we're staring that in the face ! The slide must be corrected , and quickly, if not by the manager, then by the BOD !

It nearly was in season 97/98. A goal from Shuggie Murray at Forthbank saved us and consigned Stirling Albion to relegation.

Within 2 years we had won the First Division and were promoted.

Quote from "Buy the Buds" on the SMISA website:-

Why do we have to buy 68% of the club rather than just 50.1%?

When the majority shareholding in the club first went up for sale, it was a 52% stake, owned by five people. However one of the groups who came close to buying the club wanted to buy a 75% shareholding as this would give them unchecked power.

So the original consortium secured legal agreements with several others shareholders, including ex-directors Gordon Scott and Ken McGeoch plus four others with small shareholdings, which formed them into a block of just over 75%.

Those legal agreements remain in place, which means our offer has to include those other shareholders. Once you take away Gordon’s existing 8% shareholding, that leaves us with around 68% so that is the amount we were bound to offer for.

Thank you. The net effect then is that Gordon Scott will own what will be a "Golden Share". Will this be acquired at any time?

  8. On 2/5/98 - Stirling Albion at Forthbank, Hugh Murray scores the goal that secured Saints 1st Division status. Later Named clubs Young Player of the Year.

An "I was there moment" to rival the Cup Wins for me anyway.

Within 2 Seasons we won the First Division Title

Are there any lessons that can be learned?

I wasn't trying to be "one up" on you EK. If it came over that way then I apologise.

I go to all the home games unless I'm working, and tend to rota myself in to work when we are away from home to make sure I get to most home ones.

Just so happens I'm off tomorrow and not a million miles away... but I really cannot be motivated to attend... I shall save what little stamina I have left for our next home game.
