Elvis. True. But what in the longer term?
-
Excellent point Eaglesham but Stirling Albion's mission is to reach that position and if you like then, overtake them. What would you suggest for a future Mission for Saints?
-
A number of threads have posts which mention that the club needs to reinvent itself and reconnect with the fans, town and wider community.
What would you see as the ultimate but realistic mission for the club we support.
By way of example the mission for Stirling Albion, a fan owned club with a smaller fan base, is to become the highest ranked part-time team in Scotland, or so I am told.

Back to the game. Dumbarton are no push over. Hibs won there last week courtesy of a penalty.
Time to rewrite history Alex and kickstart our season as well as cementing your position.
-
Well. One of the reasons that I am a St Mirren supporter was to escape from that approach.
-
You are naughty faraway..naughty I tell you.
One town, one team.
St Mirren

Five advantages of going to this game.
1 To watch a very promising group of young lads.
2 To watch great football.
3 To watch a winning team.
4 No queues at the pie stall.
5 It is FREE

Sorry - Hold on a moment till I roll my trouser leg down.

Don't quite know what a "sectarian organisation" means but it's full of masons.
Surely not...haven't they been outlawed?

Very good Scrabby Coco!
They will be making a musical about a football club next.
What's that? They already have!
But - We have the best song.
"Oh when the Saints...."
-
Would people care about this if we were winning? Just asking.
-
Certainly not. I merely state that privacy is seldom available to those in authority these days.
But picking up on things out of context doesn't always help/

ABBA sang it. Rangers learned it the hard way.
We are now on the path to majority fan ownership.
This may well be the way for the future for community clubs like the buddies.
Meanwhile, with no Roy McGregor around, the board have no choice but to go with the Austerity route until income grows since investment is very unlikely.
Realism is needed more than ever as a fan, supporter or customer of the club.
SOS is the song which follows this track.
This particular SOS goes out to all of us with an interest in the Saints to carry on, support the board, management and players through these tough times.

What next? People will start filming documents being read by government officials on the London Underground! Frustration can cause all of us to sound off without as much thought as we might otherwise give and when picked up by the passing listener can be troublesome. (are you listening Gordon Brown). Cut the guy some slack.

1 nil in favour of Saints but a very tight game.

Leibniz would probably have reconsidered his work if he supported a team like St. Mirren.
Very true - it does try the theory out to the limits........
In philosophy, Leibniz is most noted for his optimism, i.e. his conclusion that our Universe is, in a restricted sense, the best possible one that God could have created, an idea that was often lampooned by others such as Voltaire. Leibniz, along with René Descartesand Baruch Spinoza, was one of the three great 17th-century advocates of rationalism. The work of Leibniz anticipated modern logicand analytic philosophy, but his philosophy also looks back to the scholastic tradition, in which conclusions are produced by applying reason to first principles or prior definitions rather than to empirical evidence.

I go with this view that this management team saved us from relegation last season. In fact our stats after they arrived were definitely amongst the top 4 in the league for the period they were in charge. Credit and some slack is due.
I also was a fan of Jim Goodwin but share the view that he was at or nearing the end of his time at Championship Level. I feel the same about Andy Webster. I agree with others that we are missing Rocco Quinn. He may well be the key to bringing balance back to the side and in releasing Mallan to play in a more forward role. With Quinn in place, it might well be that our back four get a bit more cover as well.
Do I like looking at our position in the league table? No I don't but as far as I can see we are within 2 or 3 points of jumping up 5,6 or 7 places. Time to hold our nerve I think.
I didn't care which team Alex Ferguson, Alex Smith or Danny Lennon grew up supporting and I don't care which team Alex Rae or his Assistant support(ed) either.
What I do care about is them getting on with the job in hand and start to get the results they and us want.
-
One way of looking at it I suppose. Another is that this may just be the start of another chapter.
A win ad results elsewhere going our way might just see us in 6th place after close of play.
Who knows!!!
And yes - I am the eternal optimist.
-
Have you seen the under 20's side this season? Top of the league having won every game so far. Hibs come to the Paisley 2021 Stadium. Kick off at 6pm and it is Free!!!
Great entertainment so far - this looks like another great encounter. So get along there and see great football.
Come on ye Saints!

There is no doubt that today was painful. Earlier posters have mentioned that our attacking play was the best we have seen this season. Others have mentioned that the QOS goalkeeper made 5 (I made it 5) great saves, a ball was cleared off the line and that we hit the post. In general, at least in my opinion, the midfield and front players were decent. We continued to be fragile at the back, particularly on the break. It was clear to all, I think, that Andy Webster had a poor game. I think Rae was right to sub him. Were Andy Webster in Rae's shoes, I have the feeling that he would have done the same. It is no sin to age and slow down (believe me and I should know!). He has been a good pro, is still good when facing the ball coming to him but is now very vulnerable when he has to turn and is likely to be beaten in a race for the ball. He has a role to play at the club but perhaps no longer a stand out first choice. Let's not belittle our own players.

The next home match for the under 20's is on Tuesday at the Paisley 2021 Stadium. Kick off 6pm v Hibs.
The last home game was fantastic, free entertainment. Despite staying more that an hour away, I will be there.
Come on the young Saints and well done for the great start to the season.

Did you get that off one of your nationalist websites? When you travel the world as I have done you notice that the Union Flag often pops up in the most unexpected of places. Many countries are still extremely proud of their association with the UK. A UK, which by the way, Scotland is very much a part of. Indeed when it comes to British Empire Scotland profited hugely and Paisley in particular built it's entire wealth around it's trading with the British Empire. Are you as equally embarrassed of your association with the town that made so much money from the Empire?
Stuart. I am pretty sure that you are an intelligent man. I can see that you hold strong views but you do have a penchant for expressing these as facts.
I too have spent a lot of time travelling and working internationally, particularly over the last 17 years with enough miles travelled to take me around the globe many times.
Attitudes to the United Kingdom vary greatly especially in ex colonies. What is less in question is that people often differentiate Scots from the English within that context.
Justified or not, we seem to emerge with more credit - then again they would be likely to tell me that - I am not naive.
Scotland, Ireland and to some extent Wales sent disproportionate numbers to the colonies and, it appears, they prospered.
That prosperity was also shared back in the, then industrial heartlands of these "home" countries.
Did we exploit - I think the verdict on that is clear. We acted as any empire has and probably as they will again.
But - this is, I believe a football forum, so no more politics from me.
Fly your flag by all means, let others fly theirs, go to your own church or not but some saturday those on the forum become St Mirren fans united behind our team.

What do you mean by starting at the bottom though ? Would that be joining the bottom of the lowland or highland league and working their way through the pyramid system ?
If the senior clubs want to move to England then they do the same, move to Carlisle, join the lowest league and work their way up through the English system. But if they want to move to England, then it should be a proper move and get entirely out of Scotland.
I have no worries about the colt teams starting at the bottom of the pyramid system. That seems reasonably fair to me.
I think too that the English teams would expect Celtic and Rangers to join the lowest leagues.
However.
Changes elsewhere and TV money and power might persuade the English Football Authorities to make a different judgement.
Only a thought - others might take a different view.

I'm not claiming it's an opinion that carries more weight. It's just a statement of fact. If you are a fan of something you are always going to be less discerning than a customer. That works whether your talking about football, bands, or even mobile phones.Stuart. I will not use up any more energy on this. All any thinking person needs to do is accept that it is ok to differ. In that spirit, this is the last time I will reply to your comments.
You feel that you are stating a fact. I think you are stating an opinion.
For some reason that escapes me, it seems that you feel that I may be guilty of self-delusion or at least have blind spots regarding improvements that can be made.
Neither, I assure you is correct. I do not see this forum as a vehicle to be used merely to voice discontent.
It is possible that some do. Good luck with your posting on B&W Army.
Enjoy the game you are going to see on Saturday, wherever that is.
For me, I will be at Paisley 2021 Stadium.
Strangely, I will be a fan and a paying customer.
Now there's a thought.

I love it Kendo but same question -what should be the long term mission (in your opinion)?
