JR was a great manager for us. I have to wonder why 2 clubs were keen to offload him. Perhaps there was nothing, but who knows?

One might say for much the same reason that Sean Malloney might well have been on an extremely 'shoogly peg' had Hibs not won today and for the self same reason that Stephen Glass just departed Aberdeen, both fairly 'big' clubs with a large fan-base who have even larger expectations and likewise;Sunderland fits within the same criteria. I personally I think both Ross and Glass were handed 'hospital passes' at Sunderland and Aberdeen respectively, I believe neither had the full commitment of the club behind them and were stop-gap managers who if they wqere succesfull would give kudos to those who hired them and if not.....well we can see that outcome.

If giving rangers and Celtic both stands is the difference in us having the likes of Alnwick and Jones then i’m all for it I’m afraid, I would much rather see a better product on the park and it’s only for a couple of games a season.

Also that Motherwell away stand holds about double our stand so I can totally understand st mirren’s way of thinking here.

Fully appreciate the Motherwell chairs stance, however I am with JJ McG here in the sense it gives the gaffer the chance to attract better quality players, a no brainer IMO

Honest john could hold the ball erwin and main well. Main was poor before he joined us sometimes i think jim is over confident in his ability to allways get the best from a player main for me isnt a striker even at Aberdeen he missed more chances than he bagged and the trend continues now. I have high hopes for grieve but we defo need something else in or we will slip down the table.

would happily lose both Main and Erwin for Obika, is he better quality? I would say perhaps a shade better, but he is a grafter which neither Main nor Erwin are IMO,

I know you get a lot of grief on here from folks but I get a lot of where you are coming from.

Problem is when you say StJ are a dead cert then your kinda losing it. They are still a poor outfit and we are rightly expecting to beat them, not saying its a stick on though.

Doubt Hibs will pump us and think we are capable of a point, but expect to lose.

Kelty won't beat us if we even turn up. We are a far better side and will likely take 2 or 3 off them.

I do agree though that our home form and performances, in the main have been poor and tough to watch apart from 30 mins against Rangers.

I have decided Elvis-itis is a disease and you caught it, isolation, fed on irn bru, deep fried pies in a roll and deep fried mars bars as desert. :)

Think we’ve came out stronger from this transfer window, sore one losing McGrath but feel kiltie is more than good enough to fill his boots, finally got some pace in Jones also, would have liked to have seen erwin away with the lad Bowie in but not the end of the world. Feel much better this deadline day than I did at the of the summer window, plus I turn 30 at midnight so if you see me tomorrow feel free to buy me a vodka 👀😂😂

    Happy birthday

  6. suddenly thought I had better clarify HOW to use them sites, you have lots of red x to cancel and its frustrating to say the leas,t takes a good 5 to 10 minutes to get done sometimes and you need to disable your protection for the time to allow it to happen, so you do get some dodgy links......don't get distracted by them :).

Couldn’t make the game today & not a dodgy stream in sight (plus social media coverage pretty limited), how was the first half?

Just for your future needs... I pay for games when available, but because I reside in Engerland it's na allowed, so I use Front row sports or VIPbox, both worked fine today although they don't always.

He was using terminology in his use of the H word which is offensive. I have family and friends who support both clubs. I  would never ever refer to them using such derogatory language such as H or T. I’m sure you and many others on here have similar friends and relatives. As I understand the  law in a Scotland those terms have been described as a hate crime.

For many years we as St Mirren fans sang different songs referring to Rangers and Celtic in a derogatory manner. We eliminated those songs from our repertoire for the reasons we talk about now. We also used to sing “Go home ya H”. No longer sung.

His second tweet regarding a bridge toppling thousands of Rangers fans into the Clyde was made while he was in an official capacity as club director. Some people might think that’s just a joke, but I don’t find it funny in the slightest. He should never have made reference to another clubs supporters like that in his position.

A comment , no more.  I tend to agree comments were 'unfortunate' in my opinion' and opinions certainly vary, yours however comes across as rather sanctimonious.  One hopes there are no hidden petards about; upon which one might be hoisted.

Well… I never did say that he was unpopular and thus wrong.

From an outsider’s POV, seeing the game on a box, Callum appears to never ever try to have a relationship with the players, communicate and let them know what he will tolerate and what not.

He seems to feel that his sole purpose is to know the rules and interpret that if and when he sees indiscretions.  When I played, referees would talk to both teams, before and during matches, so that they knew what he might tolerate and what not.

he is a self imposed lonely man out there.

no great disrespect intended, but you obviously never played enough  (I did.  Stopped when I was 46, so I know what discipline and control real referees CAN achieve).

played till mid thirties and referred till early forties

Far too quick with cards.  If he’d been in real control of the players and the game, then there wouldn’t have been so many flying, ill-judged tackles and cheating aggression.

His ineffectual presence set the wrong tone so he was forced to resort to dishing out cards for everything.

the 2nd yellow for Jenny’s was not only soft, but wrong, I believe.

it turned the game.  I might be happy for how that helped Saints, but it was not helping a legitimate game of football.

Just because the ref is unpopular......clearly, it doesn't mean he was wrong , the first yellow, he might have let go with a word; but it was legitimate nonetheless, the second offence in many referees eyes could well have been a straight red, no great disrespect intended, but you are obviously not a referee (I am).

Not being arsey or anything, but I would like to know your thoughts on what don't agree with? I like to hear others thoughts in a respectful debate.
I was waffling on in the post you quoted, but trying to see the difference to last season and with the new set up.

What I liked about last season is the back 4 were very solid. I felt our issue, like most teams not Celtic, Rangers or Hibs was attack and goal scoring.

I was hoping with Fraser signing on that the defence side was secure and we would look at the attack more. I think for me the thing that has unsettled everything wasn't just new signings having to fit in with an existing bunch of players, but the existing bunch having to try fit in to a new system too with the 352.

I do feel we haven't filled Durmas or a striking options that brings something different (goals would be good haha).

For me the biggest loss was  Connolly, Doyle-Hayes was / is much in the Magennis role for me both flatter to deceive, good players yes but they need equally good players around them and they are (as indeed many players are at this level) consistently  inconsistent.  i agree with your review of last years but equally I like the idea of a back three with two good wing half's and Tamser, Millar, Tait and Power (variations thereof) might fit the bill.  I will grant you it isn't working, right at this minute, but Goddys management style got us where it did last year and HE will be hoisted by his own petard, so it is his call, and I for one wish him well. Striker wise he has got the best that we as a club can attract / afford, I like Main he is dogged and keeps on keeping on much as Basher used to in years gone by, Dennis also is a grafter and I LOVE grafters, bit of talent is no use at all if you don't graft, so my hope is something clicks with strikers ass indeed it did with Basher and Yards,.  What people need to remember is this is St Mirren, we is used to dragging defeat from the jaws of victory, lets do better this year. COYS

If the rumours are true and we are signing Matt Millar this is a step in the right direction if we are set to play 3-5-2 system.

What I know about Millar is he can play right back but seems more natural at getting forward like a right wing back. He might not be incredibly creative but has pace, which we really need, he seems to be able to get forward and can cross a ball in. He seems to have a good engine as well to continually get forward and back. Likes to get forward like Tanser does, so would hope this balance the side out and gets us what we have needed (pace), but fits the system we are playing now.

My take on it, but last season was pretty good finish, but this was playing with what was a soild 4 at the back formation. I like the signing for people that can play multiple positions as should then allow for th eformation to change depending if at home or away or depending on the other teams set up. Early days yet to see if this will happen as we continue with 3-5-2 no matter what.

What we lost from last season and have found replacements for:
    LWB - Mason = Tanser
    CM Doyle-Hayes = Ronan
    ST - Obika = Main
    CDM - Sheron/Foley = Power

Lost and potentially signing a replacement to fit the system:
    RM - Connolly = Matthew Millar (RWB/RB)

    Potentially going & replacement:
    CAM - McGrath = Kiltie

Players we are yet to replace:
    Durmas
    Quaner/Morias

We then needed maybe 2 more in to build on last season's form, but to either fit this system or to allow the ability to change it up.
    Needs not met:
    * Pace/Creativity - LWB/LM/LW
    * either/or Tall/Strong/Fast Striker

What we could look like if Millar comes in (Starter / Backups)
    3-5-2
    GK - Alnwick / Lyness / Urminský
    RCB - Fraser / Finlayson
    CCB - Shaughnessy / McCarthy
    LCB - Dunne /
    RWB - Millar / Henderson
    LWB - Tanser / Tait
    CDM - Power / Erhahon / Reid
    CM - Ronan / Flynn
    CAM - McGrath / Kiltie / McAllister
    ST - Brophy / Dennis
    ST - Main / Erwin

    4-5-1
    GK - Alnwick
    RB - Fraser
    RCB - Shaughnessy
    LCB - Dunne
    LB - Tait
    CDM - Power
    RM - Millar
    CM - Ronan
    CM - McGrath
    LM - Tanser
    ST - Main

    4-2-3-1
    GK - Alnwick
    RB - Fraser
    RCB - Shaughnessy
    LCB - Dunne
    LB - Tait
    CDM - Power
    CDM - Ronan
    RAM - McAllister
    CAM - McGrath
    LAM - Kiltie
    ST - Main

    4-4-2
    GK - Alnwick
    RB - Fraser
    RCB - Shaughnessy
    LCB - Dunne
    LB  - Tait
    RM - Millar
    CM - Power
    CM - McGrath
    LM - Tanser
    ST - Brophy
    ST - Main

Not sure I agree wholeheartedly with your interpretation; but it's certainly fair and realistic as opposed to the usual paranoia from certain quarters, food for thought anyway, thank you

Anyway, I’m fast recognising there’s literally no point engaging with you. Any discussion just gets shouted down as negativity as you aim to drown out debate or questioning of the club.

Your last point is fair - we are near end of August now and up here the good weather is almost gone, if I bought my son a strip he’s not really going to be able to show it off.

Now if the strips were available say 6 weeks ago he would have got all the summer holidays out of it.

Appreciate (whilst I don’t know the detail) that Skyview ‘moved the goalposts’ - no pun intended, which has had a fairly big impact, are/were Skyview in breach of an existing contract or was the contract up for renewal and we got caught out (commercially)? Where I am going with this is - if it’s the former - could we go after Skyview legally for breach of contract and collateral damage (the strip sales)?

Probably not going to get him his strip now which is a shame because the home one is a cracker.

is that just cause yer a tight fisted jock?
