You missed out Livingston, Hamilton, ICT & Ross County who as much as we think we are bigger than you could argue they are bigger than us.

ICT & Ross County have both been in top 6 in last 10 years.

Have both not won the League Cup too???

Hamilton have finished higher than us in league placings 6 years in a row.

Livingston will finish higher than us 2 years in a row with 1 top 6 finish.

Of the teams you mentioned Partick and Dundee have both been top 6 in last 10 years.

I would like at least 1 or 2 seasons to see us finishing 6/7th without worrying about relegation but we have went through 10 managers, hundreds of players over last 20 years and never got anywhere near it where other similar sized clubs have.

Getting to the top 6 doesn't make you a bigger club but that does seem to be the most frustrating thing about us. We never seem to have just one good season where we get in the top 6. All the other clubs you mentioned who aren't any bigger than us have managed to do it at least once.

There isn't even a single person or group of people we can blame. Its a new manager, players, chairman and board from the last time we were in the Premier League and we still can't manage it.

Really? Make more money in the top league, making more money gets us better players. Top league better crowds better atmosphere. Staying up more important IMO Winning a cup is a bonus & something to brag about.

Making more money for who exactly? Not more money for my pocket so I don't care.

I've been following St Mirren for over 25 years. The 3 best years for crowds and atmosphere were all title wins in the 1st division/Championship

To all the people who defend Obika week on week out despite him being horrendous in front of goal and now missed another sitter, give you Liam Boyce a guy who will save Hearts from Relegation, will outscore Obika despite playing half the matches he has played.

The 6 team fight to avoid relegation could easily become a 5 very soon if Hearts continue as they did today.

If we had a decent striker we would have been sitting here after beating Aberdeen 3 times this season.

Well unfortunately we don't have 150k to buy him and 10k a week to pay his wages. It's quite simple really.

Comparing Obika to a player we can't afford is pointless.

The 3-0 at home v Motherwell in 2006 under Gus was one of the great cup performances of recent times. Corcoran and Charlie Adam outstanding. Hopefully, a repeat of that....

Also, assuming it's not picked for TV, will be good to have a 3pm Saturday kick-off!

Recent times? It was 14 year ago 😂

A repeat of that win would be nice.

  5. Some people within our support just seem to love hating strikers. We had Gavin Reilly who scored 20+ goals a few years ago and people were happy to see him go and said he wasn't good enough for the premier league.

Obika is the best striker we've had since Reilly so naturally all the same people are out again criticising him. If he was the finished article he wouldn't be with us. Simple as that.

  6. “The full range of salaries in the Scottish top division is just remarkable. Celtic pay more per man, basic, than Sheffield United of the English Premier League, while the seven lowest Scottish Premiership spenders pay less than quite a few teams in the fifth tier of English football."

This is why people don't attend the games against the OF. Because its a waste of time trying to compete.

Give them the stands, take their cash and just write the game off.

So because its always been this way we should just pucker up and take it?
No that is an abdication of responsibility and leadership by our board. They are taking us back to the bad old days.
Tge diff6thus time round is we actually have a good, safe and entertaining area if the stadium for kids & families. But they have been kicked out of that safe area to accommodate racism for cash. How many kids and families are lost to the club by these actions?
Next time the board bemoan lack of ticket sales etc... they only have to look at their own short term greed and laziness.
Just about every other sport in the country works at every fixture to encourage and accommodate the fans of the future. But not our football club seemingly.
Just as you sow, you shall reap!
Keep repeating the failed thinking of the past, Nd you will be saddled with its consequences.

The fact is most people don't have as strong opinions against the old firm as you do.

They are being asked to move seats for our least important game of the season. It's not that big a deal.

I agree they shouldn't be in our end though. That causes a whole set of other problems.

However, he never seems to be able to take on bigger clubs. You’d think playing Celtic and Sevco 8 times minimum, year after year, he’d have an idea of how to get some solid results against them.

He's got plenty results against them both over the last few years. Its taken him a long time to master that though.

Nothing to do with police costs but I wouldn't be bothered if  W7 was disbanded, outside of fulfilling their own fantasies I don't see what they offer - they certainly don't improve my matchday experience.

You probably don't improve their match day experience either.

You can do better than that. Any serious organisation would want to know why those interested in their brand are no longer buying

On other threads you have been highlighting the fact that our attendances have sharply risen over the last few years.

Why all of a sudden do you think people are now no longer buying? The season hasn't even started.

The league cup always has terrible attendances at this stage. That's got nothing to do with st mirren, the issue is with the tournament and format.

Significantly backed? Or frittered away hard earned transfer fees to the point we now can't compete in the transfer market

I agree with this but it's still backing them. I think the original point was that he was accused of not backing the managers.

Every manager he has appointed had been given the opportunity to bring in a significant number of players and shape their own team.

I believe he has learned from last summer's mistakes and that's why there is more caution this year and a determination to bring in a higher standard of player rather than just any tom dick or harry.

No he hasn't! otherwise Oran Kearney would still be manager & St Mirren FC would possibly/probably still be in the league cup and this summers recruitment would be in the advanced stages of having a full squad assembled.

OK wanted to stay, of that there is no doubt but something happened that brought about him leaving. A daily commute wasn't a deal breaker but it's become convenient to use as the reason OK left.

This has got nothing to do with him backing managers. This was a completely separate issue which has been discussed to death on this forum.

The facts are GLS has significantly backed every manager he has appointed so far.

Jack Ross with the January 2017 squad overhaul, Stubbs with last summer's whole new squad and OK with another whole new squad in January this year.

He will back Goodwin. It takes time to get the right standard of players in.

Exercise in vanity, are we any better or worse with Gus as technical director. I can't see any difference. Complete waste of money. A wage that could have been spent on another player. GLS Fitzy and Gus should hang their heads in shame. What we have had to witness in this league cup is a utter shambles and it comes from the top.

We'd very likely be in the championship right now if Gus wasnt here.

Do you think OK could have identified all those players and brought them in on his own in January while trying to manage the team and adapt to a new league at the same time?

Forgive me for mentioning this trophy (2010) but some guys keep saying that these games at the moment are basically pre season friendliest.T hey are not. We are in the league cup group stages .A cup we won for the first time in our history in 2013 beating Aberdeen Celtic and hearts to do so these are not friendlies we have to get out this group without embarrassment

The tournament has been ruined by the current format . Whether we like it or not the fact is this stage of the tournament is taking place pre season and it will always be treated with an element of pre season atmosphere to it.

The sooner the spfl ditch this shite format the better. The attendances speak for themselves. Surely that's a huge and clear indication that the fans aren't interested and this new format has fallen flat on its face.

The fact that a team can win a national tournament by playing 4 games of football is a total joke as well.

  15. We are trying to get players of a good calibre this year which is difficult to get. I'm sure if we wanted to we could sign about 6 or 7 diddies tomorrow of standard of players we brought in last summer.

When you are looking for quality players on our budget it takes time. We just need to wait and be patient.

This cup competition is a farce coming this early. It makes a total mockery of the tournament which relegates it to basically a pre season tournament.
