OK I would put a minimum £100k per year into an investment scheme of stocks and shares for the club with all profits re-invested.

That £100k per year investment would be increased as finances allowed.

It would be a 10 to 20 year financial plan to eventually allow us to compete financially with the best in the country.

I love that quaint old term Oaky “investing in Stocks and shares”. It’s so old fashioned. My job is lending money to private equity and real estate funds. These alternative investment funds which are relatively high risk may (just may) return the sort of upside you refer to. A bog standard investment in a “stocks and shares” investment scheme would not yield anything like the sort of return over the 10/20 year timescale you describe unless it was either an extremely aggressive high risk scheme and you got lucky, or there was a significantly positive market event.

You are of course right that such an investment (barring disaster) should result in a better return than sticking your wedge in the bank, but you certainly wouldn’t be making sufficient a return to compete at the level you suggest.

    FT 0-1

Improved second half without creating much. Over the 90 minutes certainly felt we deserved to lose.

Our experienced guys in the middle Smith, S McGinn and Flynn were all really poor again.

One bright spark was Sam Jamieson, a young player I had never heard of before his name was called out as he was coming on to replace Smith. He got stuck in and did far more in his short time on the park than Cammy did.

With Dundee winning today and Aberdeen away for us next week, bottom place is looming. A position I fear we will be very used to come May.

Aye ye said that already. You got a stutter?

You know me. I can't stop Oaksofting. :D

You are not a client of Morton, that is the difference.

You made a decent gesture letting them know. The rest is out of yours hands but you did your bit and I'm sure he would have been grateful for you doing that regardless of the outcome. I would have thought they would have acknowledged your email at least.

    Ha Ha. Cheers mate.

The wee man had some belting tales. Leaving Terry Cooper on his arse several times during a pre season friendly against Leeds Utd and telling him that if he was the best left back England had, then they must be in a bit of trouble. I loved that.

He also trained with St. Mirren before signing for Morton and had very nice words to say about the St. Mirren squad In the late 60s, especially Denis Connaghan.

The reason he played so few games with Morton is because he was taken down to Huddersfield for a trial and was offered a contract. However he decided against moving his wife and one year old daughter (my wife) down to England at that time. He decided (given there was no money in football then) to go back to the tools and made a fine career as a pump engineer. However, not before letting Frank Worthington take him out on the lash. Davie said Frank was an absolute class act and treated him brilliantly. I didn’t miss the opportunity to tell Davie that a Frank Worthington inspired Bolton Wanderers got gubbed off the Murn.

    God bless ye wee man.

Again, thoughts to you all if you don’t mind me saying, cheers

Thanks mate. Really appreciate the kind thoughts as well as the info.

Shitty time for all concerned but the point of this thread obviously wasn’t to seek sympathy (shit happens regularly), it was more just to express my annoyance at Morton for ignoring my email and to seek views as to whether I was overreacting just because it’ an upsetting time.  And nothing to do with the fact it was Morton. Could’ve been any club. I guess I’m just coming from the premise that manners cost nothing. Not even really about Davie.

    ‘tricky winger’ as a player

    Thoughts to all his family.

Thanks mate. Yes, he was indeed a tricky winger apparently. My sister in law has a really cool picture of him ghosting past Sandy Jardine.

    I was asking a question.

    Was it 14 ?

Yeah I don’t know mate, I was asking where you got the info from? I’d be interested to know.

I don’t know , I suppose I understood your point as being if he only played 14 games, that why they haven’t responded, which I would say is bollocks. A simple statement on a website costs nothing, let alone a response to an effin email. Maybe I misunderstood you. I’ve had a couple of drinks.

Whether you are out of order or not completely depends on the truthful reason as to why you are annoyed.

Ha Ha.A classic Oaksoft challenging response.

Ok....I’m annoyed for a couple of reasons.

I work for a large financial institution and I’m client facing. If I received an email from one of my clients and didn’t respond within 48 hours with at the very least some sort of acknowledgement, I’d seriously not be doing my job properly. The only difference is that the email I’d have received would have been some boring inconsequential shite, but I’d still have responded. Swap large financial institution for piss ant, no mark football team which probably has email traffic on a daily basis of a pretty light volume, I feel like I could have expected a response within 48 hours.

But mainly I’m just annoyed because my father in law who I loved has died.

  8. Happy to be told I’m talking shite but....

My father in law passed away on Tuesday at an all too early age.

He is an ex Morton player and I emailed the club on Wednesday advising them and asking if they would mind putting a wee tribute on their website.

2 days later, not even a response.

On the contrary in his later years he played for Larkhall Thistle who were quick to post a lovely wee tribute.

Rude soapdodging caaants I say, but I’m bias. What do you say?

  9. Tony Fitz against Dundee Utd in the cup.

Scanlon against Celtic in the League.

Scanlon against Clydebank in the cup.

    Zico against Rangers at Ibrox

Zico against Celtic in the cup semi.

These were all great goals from that era as due to the composition of the ball back then, the type of “spectacular” goals we see these days were very rare indeed.

In the more modern age you could probably list countless goals and it would be very difficult to tell them apart. Jesus, Stevie Mallan’s wee video montage on YouTube would provide about a dozen for a start!

billy davies when we beat sevco

Are you talking about THAT Billy Davies goal? The one he bulleted into the top corner after the mazy run by Cameron?

if so, there’s two things wrong with your statement. We lost 2-1 that day and it wasn’t Sevco it was Rangers. If we want to call them Sevco now, then it stands to reason that you have to acknowledge that they were Rangers then :P

I'm off on my annual trip to Ullapool for the Music Festival.

Always enjoy a Saints v Hibs game so if someone wants to Periscope it and I'll return the favour by Periscoping Bad Manners back to you.

    Season Ticket passed on.

I’d love to see what Buster Bloodvessel looks like now. I bet he’s bald and fat! B)

It wuld be a different story if he was already an employee but we are not a charity. If his illness was stable that would be one thing but it sounds like he is still suffering wild swings. There is no way we could take a risk like that IMO. If we want to treat mental illness as a normal illness you have to compare like with like and ask if we would sign an injury prone player who was working through his injury with no clear indication of how long it would take to recover, if at all. We did it with Harry Davis but its a rare occurrence.

Whilst I do take your point, I was more coming at it from the point of view that he has said playing is actually his release.

I’m not sure if you have any experience with mental illness, but in my (albeit limited) experience, it is not something you get “cured” of. Not this type of illness anyway. It’s very much something you learn to live with. In opening up like this it sounds like David Cotterill is well on the way to doing just that and I’d hate to see him discriminated against on that basis.

Sounds like it’s going to be a bit of a moot point as far as Saints are concerned anyway.

Former Police Chief Constable back in the 1930's, I think,   was quoted as saying that he had "The Biggest Gang" in Scotland.

He was referring to the large gangs in Glasgow one of which was led by Billy Fullerton ( He of the Billy Boys Song).

I always just assumed that the “Billy” Boys was just derived from William of Orange. Every day is a school day as they say.

And (I hope this is true) while on his deathbed 'either that wallpaper goes, or I do'

My favourite of his is “I’m so clever, sometimes I don’t understand a single thing of what I am saying”. :thumbsup

Hello! Hello! We are the Killie Boys

Hello! Hello! You’ll know us by our noise.

We’re up to our knees in Ayr blood

    Surrender or you’ll die.

For we are the Ayrshire Killie Boys.

I can only think Doogie didn’t know they sang that song.

  16. Unlike many of their songs, (unless I’m missing something) there’s absolutely nothing wrong with Celtic’s “Hail Hail” song. It’s one of the few songs they sing that’s actually about their effin team! They do refer to Rangers fans as “animals”, but that’s ok in my book.
