  1. Where did I say I was happy about yesterday?

What I am not about to do is start calling for the managers head after 3 games of a new season when the last 2 season have been the best 2 seasons we've enjoyed for a generation.

You might have gone to that game but what you are doing is NOT supporting the team. There is no definition of "support" which would cover what you are engaging in.

Oaksoft, I think it's fair to say we have different views on Lennon's tenure and how this season is playing out and that's fair enough. If we get a few wins then naturally that will buy the manager some more time to fix the obvious issues in the team and the heat from supporters will, in all likelihood, die down.

What I'd like to understand form you is at what point does your faith in the manager become blind faith? How much longer would you be prepared to see us struggle like we have, in the League, for some time now before you would expect action to be taken.

I don't want to get engaged in another tit for tat session but I'm genuinely interested what the tipping point would be for you?

  2. I believe he is going to go because the players do not want to play for him anymore.

Decent post that is pretty close to the mark. (Could've done without having a pop at others but that's an argument for another thread)

This was the comment that stood out for me. If this truly is the case then it's a f**king poor show. That being said these situations never arise without some tipping point or indeed a series of events that drive a wedge between players and manager. I know it's a cliche, however, if he has "lost the dressing room" then it's all over for him. Managers never win these battles as clubs have too much invested in the playing staff. Remember Le Guen at Sevco?

There's so much pish that gets spouted on here that even if someone is "in the know" we'll all probably miss it amongst the other rubbish and so we don't really have any insight into what goes on behind the dressing room wall.

Football's a fickle mistress. Win the next two, against very beatable opponents, and buy some breathing space to fix some of the issues. Lose the next two and I'm afraid we'll be looking for a new boss next Saturday night.

  3. There is a definite lack of atmosphere at our stadium but I'm not sure a standing area will fix that.

I do believe "atmosphere" can drive a team on so we're missing a trick here in my opinion and it also improves the experience for a lot people.

The diaspora of fans when we'd moved from Love St is key to this in my opinion and I'm sure this was flagged as a concern at the time.

Best way to address it IMO is to have one of the stands (West) set up on a first come first served basis for seats. All the young team could gather together and make as much noise as they like then.

    Simple!

(Cue frothing objection from displaced West Stand season ticket holders!)

    Just an idea! :-)

  4. Sorry but I'm not going to agree on that at all.

I have absolutely no idea how we'll fare but I'm willing to wait and see!!!

Ok, that's your view and it's not going to change, however, the evidence of last season's league struggles and our early season form would suggest you won't need wait too long if reinforcements aren't forthcoming.

  5. Look guys, I call it voicing concern, you call it teeth gnashing and knickerwetting. Whatever.

One point we should all be agreed on is that we're going to seriously struggle if we don't sign some players before the window closes.

You're in the camp that days Lennon should have until the end of the window, I think he should have addressed the fundamental issues before the start of the season.

Let's see how it plays out between now and the end of August. I genuinely hope I'm wrong to be concerned but we've got a couple of big games coming up and we could be doing with decent, morale boosting results.

  6. 15 is nonsense but they certainly need to be scoring more than 5. a season for the amount of money we are paying them.

I would agree that I'd like more than 5 goals from my strikers but if you look around the league you'll see most teams are in the same boat. One main striker scoring the bulk of their goals (Griffiths, McGinn, Russell etc.) whilst their "secondary" strikers pitch in with a handful, generally less than 10.

However, this is a sideshow to the main debate which is that Lennon should not have released three strikers with no suitable replacements lined up and we're struggling right now as a result with the "doomsday scenario" of an injury to Thommo lurking in the background.

  7. Sorry DL but the 3 strikers scored 10 goals between them.A good striker must be looking at 15 a season playing for St Mirren.

Their goals return was poor but it's still better than nothing.

Just out of curiosity, how many 15 goal a season strikers have we had in our last 20 top flight seasons? Thommo, Higdon?, Chalmers? & Somner.

    Calling all stattos!

  8. Ermm......Posted Image .

Sigh! Well one rather obvious advantage (at least obvious to me) is that you remove the problem person immediately rather than having them hang around like a bad smell infecting everything and everyone for months while you fanny around with disciplinary procedures and written warnings.

Or maybe it's just a negative mindset which was the problem which is NOT a disciplinary offence but highly damaging in a team environment.

Either way, clearly Danny felt that the problems were severe enough to warrant paying off two players a year early. The fact he was prepared to do this and leave himself with just two strikers risking his own livelihood, tell me the problem must have been severe.

All of that is just commonsense to me.

If the issue was so severe then you would think we'd have heard about its through the grapevine. All we heard was that Imrie can be a moody bastard (which we knew before we bought him) and Guy had told Tommy Craig to f**k off. Even if they were negative behind the scenes they're all big boys FFS and should be able to deal with that. No need for the club to waste any money moving them on.

However you want to play this out getting rid of three strikers and having nothing lined up is a stupid move.

  9. Firstly you have no idea how much it cost to kick out Guy and Imrie.

Secondly if it did cost money, they were both clearly a problem or the club wouldn't have taken the financial hit.

    I think that's just commonsense.

Thirdly, are people still quoting Danny verbatim regarding transfers?

Danny is never just talking to us fans you know.

Stop taking his words as gospel.

You already have proof that he tried to offer at least two strikers deals.

You can be pretty sure he's keeping his cards close to his chest to avoid getting rogered by agents and other clubs.

How many times must our fans learn this lesson?!!!

Stop being such an apologist. I fail to understand why it's common sense to pay off disruptive elements of your squad. We must have a disciplinary process like any other business. Warn them, fine them and then dismiss them if they are continually out of line.

It's a poor state of affairs to be at this stage of the season with one recognised striker, particularly having let three go.

If Lennon pulls a rabbit out of the hat then well done to him but as each day goes by the prospect becomes less likely.

  10. I'd take Colin Nish.

    Proven and experienced SPL goalscorer.

Ideal back up for Steven Thompson for the lone striker role.

I agree he'd be an able deputy for Thommo in the same way big Sam was. We'd still need another striker though that would give us something different, hopefully a bit of pace.

  11. The only reason we got a point today was down the stupidity of Kris Boyd,

Well it certainly helped but not sure that's a wholly accurate statement to make. I thought we started very well. spammy had a great save from Thomson's header and McLean was close to sneaking one following some outstanding play.

We did what you would expect with the numerical superiority. We pressed and created numerous chances and tbh we're really unlucky not to take all three points. I don't remember Cornell having a save of note to make during the match.

The frustrating thing was that we had nothing really to come off the bench to change the game and until Lennon strengthens the squad that will remain the case.

Not great, but better than I feared.

  12. No there's more than one source.

What I'm saying is that I'm not about to trawl thrrough the forum finding the posts.

    Do it yourself.

There are lots of posts about the attitudes of these players.

Oh so now, to suit your particular argument, speculation and conjecture by other posters are to be accepted as fact?

It is the same person that posts on various threads under this pseudonym isn't it?

  13. I think that is the nub of the problem.

Panicking people just want someone, anyone.

What is needed during this period is a cool head.

We certainly don't want another Guy, Imrie, Parkin or the stream of other non-entities Danny has had pass through our club.

I'd prefer to use our kids in the hope of unearthing a gem than spunk money on the above type of player.

I'm willing to bet that nobody who's been complaining about the depth of the squad wants us to sign "someone, anyone".

Also, what difference will a co head make for the manager? None of the three you mentioned above were panic buys. We pursued Guy for some time and Parkin was also one we had our eye on for a while. As for Imrie, FFS we spent money on him!

I absolutely agree we should be developing our kids and bringing them through. A club like hours has to but they should be in there to augment the squad not supplement it.

  14. Oh dear. An untried striker from the 533rd division in England. This won't please the Pampers Posse.

In the words of Tom, it won't please them. It won't please them at all.

Even without provocation you just can't help yourself can you?

  15. Not content with including meaningless friendlies to back your view up you are now including games played by a largely different squad altogether to try and further cement your point????

    You're confusing yourself.

This is a different Saints team full of kids - you said it yourself - and you are slaughtering them after a single bloody match.

Not sure what dictionary you are using but the word "supporter" doesn't cover what you are doing.

As for venting frustration? Oh FFS grow up bud. Are we all 4 years old?

I'm not going to do this with you all day do this will need to be my last word on it.

You say "largely different squad" but a couple of posts ago you said "we'd kept the bulk if last season's team". Can't have it both ways.

I haven't, not even once, "slaughtered" any player, particularly the young ones for their efforts this season so not sure why you would say that. My frustration lies with Lennon/BOD 100% and I've made that clear on a number of occasions. Stop trying to twist things to suit your argument.

I want to see youth given its head but this has to be done carefully and, to use Reilly as an example, not being thrust into the team, out of position. IMO, the time for kids to break into the starting XI is at the tail end of the season when the pressure is off to an extent and they can hopefully play without fear and express themselves. Our kids got a sniff of the last game at Rugby Park last season that was all. Blame the manager for that not the supporters.

As for "venting frustration"? I wasn't aware that was a particularly childish trait, however, it's not like you to pick the least relevant part of the post and have a needless pop, is it?

Oh, and by the way, the "cock measuring" you mentioned in your other post was simply me illustrating I've followed my team for a long time and always supported them, kids or not.

  16. I repeat my question to the swollen (get it) ranks of Knickerwetters streaming (I thank you) to diss the side after ONE game...

This is the part I think yourself and Oaksoft are missing. It's NOT one game.

Our league form last year was simply not good enough. Lennon cleaned house in the summer which I'm sure most of us thought was a good idea and a statement of intent, however, the new recruits have not materialised and performances the pre-season have been very worrying, culminating in the defeat at Inverness.

I think fans have every right to be concerned about the state if the team right now and offer up various reasons for their views. The other side of the "argument", offered by you and others is that we should effectively trust the club to sort it out, things will be fine and we're all being ridiculous venting any sort of frustration at all.

If it was just about one isolated hosing in the Highlands then you could get away with that attitude but.........

  17. Including friendlies is just daft and not worthy of debate TBH. You could just as easily include 5-a-side training matches.

Nobody said YOU had disrespected Reilly but many have done so. Talking about only having one striker and ignoring Reilly as a second is disrespectful. Check the forum for several instances of this.

Undoubtedly weaker team? Undoubted? Personally I have no idea. We've kept the bulk of last years 1st pick 11 and have a group of youngsters to back them up. I've not seen any of these kids playing regularly and I suspect neither have you so TBH we have no idea whether or not we are weaker until we try these guys out.

If we don't play the kids what's the point in having them? You and others aren't even giving them a chance. You're all blowing them out as "undoubtedly weaker" without having seen them in anger. THAT is disrespectful.

Back to reality, we've dumped a lot of dross. I'm genuinely glad players like Imrie, Parkin, Guy and Adam have gone. I want to see how our kids get on replacing them. I'm pretty certain they can't be much worse FFS. As for Samson, Dummet and Goncalves? I'm happy we've replaced two of those and I'm not convinced Goncalves was the star he's been made out to be.

We are probably one experienced player short up front but I would be very happy to see how it goes if we can't find anyone else.

Obviously we need to display patience with the young guys. They'll get that from me. What about you?

You may think it's "daft" to include friendlies but a lot of us could see the writing on the wall after the Morton, QOS and Newcastle games with line ups and tactics both called into question. Inverness was the nadir of that run of games.

We're weaker because Reilly is no Goncalves, even if you decide to ignore the latter's obvious skill. We've got no experienced striker to partner Thommo, no naturally left sided midfielder and right back continues to be an issue.

You're "happy to see how it goes" if we don't sign another striker? You must be the only one because that will be a recipe for potential disaster and may ultimately cost Lennon his job and us our top league status.

Finally, I've been travelling all over this country watching my team for over 3 decades and I've seen us play kids when that was all we had. They've always had my support and that of the overwhelming majority around me. This isn't about supporting our kids and it's disingenuous of you to make it into that. The issue here IMO is that the management or BOD have not done enough to strengthen the team ahead of the new season.

  18. What is it that I should understand about the unbelievable level of clucking and squawking after 1 league game which is currently going on amongst a large number of posters?

How can anybody possibly tell how competitive we are going to be at this early stage? Has our support been taking Fortune Telling classes at Reid Kerr?

You talk about your position as though it is somehow reasonable. If you were making these comments in March I'd understand but there's nothing reasonable about most of the comments on this thread and others.

It's not so much that because you disagree with me that I'm having a go.

It's more to do with the fact that we have a team of kids and the comments on this forum are potentially highly damaging for any of the young players reading them.

As a supporter I feel I have a duty to pull up anyone showing such a lack of respect to guys like Reilly.

IMO you are allowing your personal concerns to trump the need for our younger players to feel fully supported as they attempt to nail down a regular first team slot.

Firstly, a blind man could see how "competitive" we are after a number of disappointing friendlies and one league game. We're woefully short of players having let so many go and not replacing them. That concerns me and is perfectly reasonable. Also, I never mentioned young Reilly but to expect him to establish himself as a starter in the team this year would, in all likelihood, be optimistic given his lack of experience at this level. That's reasonable, not disrespectful.

This has nothing to do with young players and their need for support. This is frustration borne from a poor league showing last year and an undoubtedly weaker team heading into this season when, as others have pointed out, our rivals are pretty much all in better shape than we are.
