  2. If no one else is interested then why are 10000 Hours quite happy to pay the £2 million to the consortium and not a lower figure?

When are you joining up Scott?

Who says they are happy to pay £2 million? Thats what the selling price was. Perhaps they realised that quie a large chunk of that would be coming back to the cic in the form of Corporate membership over a period of say 10 years?

With the amount of community work and initiatives the Club have started recently, then most of the Grants will not even have to be paid back IMO. That just leaves around £800k (I beleive) to be paid in cash. I can see the CIC being debt-free in a lot less than 10 years.

The sooner the CIC's debt is paid off, the sooner Saints will see more cash coming in.

The CIC and St.Miirren needs YOU !!

  3. Some of the shops in the town have fake 'displays' in the windows to make them look as if they are real shops, I suspect Vambo thinks that the one you mentioned is one of them - possibly of the 'imagine your restaurant here' variety.

I can't confirm either way as its been some time since I passed that way.

    Exactly Eddy.

The last time I passed it it was like that.

Glad to hear it has new tenants. For a town the size of Paisley, it really is shit for eateries.

  4. The greek resturant at the top of st.mirren brae appears to b reopened dont know wot kind of cusine they r offering though.

Looks a bit like that from a distance I must admit.

Reminds about one of my mates who was on holiday in some hot country. He was sitting having a meal at a town square Cafe, when he bought a watch off a local "jub-jub man".

When he got back to Paisley he noticed the hands on the watch were not moving. He opened it up to replace the battery when he found there was f**k all inside except a picture of a watch face

    :lol::lol::lol:

  5. Hear hear m'learned friend for Elderslie :D

It's been clear for a while now that the CIC bid depended upon external financing, not really the backing of the fans per se. REA was good enough to PM me on this issue, and the "300" watermark for supporter backing wasn't his idea, but from those who underwrite the finance for such a deal.

That said, my ongoing concern was that whilst the CIC is undoubtedly a fresh & exciting concept for football club ownership, and involving the wider community, the whole thing seems to have brought out the lunatic fringe elements, and from my business experience this is not what you need to be on the board of any business outside of drug trafficing/extorsion/loan sharking.

I've also been concerned that the current Commercial Dept of St.Mirren FC seem to be making a right old fist of running a club shop/merchandising operation. Combining those two factors, its fair enough to feel a wee bit uneasy about what the future may hold in regards to who is running the club/the principle shareholding company of the club.

I've got to say that I've been disappointed at the lack of real tangible effort to communicate the CIC concept to the SMFC support outside of this site: there are several databases that could be used, but I'm not aware that they have been. I really hope that this is simply "on the back burner" once it was evident that the 300 mark would be passed.

We need as many Saints fans as possible involved in this. The finance (ex-SMISA) from the fans is the minority party, and this is slightly worrying. We need to take this opportunity at full face value, and subscribe in large numbers: hopefully a membership scheme similar to ground admission (ie. OAP / Kids / Family concessions) could be implemented ASAP. It's all very well to sit on the sidelines and say "F*cking laundrettes !", you might as well get involved......and this is from someone who has been quite cynical about the whole affair.

    Hear, hear Fras.

If the takeover happens, the only way the fans can affect change is to be part of the CIC. Disparaging and moaning about it on a forum will be even more futile than it is now.

A broader Public non-internet information and recruitment campaign should be one of the CIC's priorities after The Constitution is ratified. The more fans and Joe Public become members, the more community involvement, the quicker any CIC 'loans' will be paid off.

  6. I have a better idea ….why don’t the Pro CIC group(St.Sid) stand at every Turnstile on Saturday and take a poll from all saints supporters as they go through the gates a simple YES for & No Against .

This I’m sure will give everybody a better idea of what the St.Mirren support really want not just as you seem to say (St.Sid)that the majority of fans are pro CIC .

This will catch all the support not just the ones who have internet or were able to attend the meeting.

Once all this information is collated it will go one way or the other and put a stop to all this Pro and anti CIC, let the supporters make their choice not just small groups of individuals.

That won't be a better way either mate. I am sure there are hundreds (if not thousands) of fans who have never heard of 10000hrs, let alone knowing any info of the model.

Once the CIC is up and running I am sure it will be a priority to inform - and hopefully get more fans - as members.

Like a Chicken Supper Bobby Sands?

They did NOT like that at all

  8. Good post Yflab. Nothing in there I would disagree with.

I think we should be teasing out views on what the organisation is going to evolve into though and the process for its evolution. An initial members meeting is of course required. In the interim a draft constitution has been drawn up and no doubt that will be presented at the meeting for discussion. Should be ratifying the constitution at that meeting or should a copy of the constitution be disseminated to members in advance so that suggestions for amendments can be made prior to the meeting. Where is the input into the constitution, process being driven from. Is it being driven by the CIC. Are there supporters involved in its drafting? Is the constitution going to be largely dictated by the funding bodies and we have to comply with certain requirements based on their conditions?

We need to keep testing the CIC. Not with speculative comwboy nonsense designed to try and derail support for it, but by ensuring that the CIC we get is the CIC we are expecting. I am sure it will be; however I am slightly concerned that some people may be sleepwalking into it now thinking that it is all done and dusted and the future will take care of itself. If people don't get involved or engaged with the process then come the CIC losing its first late goal the toys will be right of the pram as usual.

Eminently sensible point. Advanced copies of the draft Constitution and notification of the voting structure should be made available, as should any amendments put forward. There is no point in asking folk to read, amend and ratify in one session as some mince may get through - or worst stil - something detrimental overlooked.

It will also be interesting to see the voting structure, as I believe in one man, one vote, but would a corporate member be happy with that?

  9. Hmmm....

Is this 'reborn saint' also the chappie 'Jenkins' mentioned on another thread...?

    AaaaHaaaaa!

I wonder if that great marketing guru Mr. Atkinson can explain to us why is is impossible to buy even a simple scarf for the new season ?

Why are you asking RA? Ask the current owners of the Club FFS!

Will there be anything to buy before Christmas (this Christmas if possible) ?

    Of course not <_<

It is now a few months since Provan Sports shut up shop and no sign of any replacement - another victory for the local COMMUNITY ? - I don't think so.

Can he tell us how much of the purchase price on the new strips goes to the Club ?

At last a sensible, direct question, but if answered, would just result in a 'no enough for Saints' jibe from you I fear.

Looked in at JD Sports in the Paisley Centre today. Guess what is says on the 3 by 2 foot poster at the feet of the 'dummy' in the widow wearing the strip - Details of the r*ngers strip ! Don''t think Provan's would have done that.

...And if Provan's did that, you would have complained or sniped about it on here instead? Did you complain to JD Sports?

  10. I dont know why someone would say such a thing about a fellow fan who wants to use the same forum and comment on the same things that that person does in a very similiar way. Nothing tedious here buster, its all go go go with the big Tee Tom.

    ave one!

  11. I'll make this up as i go along to fit in with your mindset...

You do not understand the model.

The mission as far as I can see is to make the CIC as successful as possible, no specific mission for St Mirren.

The football club is just a conduit to providing community benefit.

The converse may not be the main driver behind the project.

All CIC monies remain as CIC monies.

...and all SMFC monies remain SMFC monies.

  12. I doubt that it IS accurate.

No mention of what supermarket the news was spotted in; no mention of a 4pm-ish press conference, just a vague "end of June but more likely end of this or begining of next week"...

    Shoddy Amateurism.

What Club does he play for? Is he Israeli? :P

  13. Big Fras, for me it's not necessarily a one way street. I defended the objectors right to post a few weeks back and said that the negatives has to be listened to for us all to form a reasoned opinion, but I'm finding myself bored with it already. Nothing new has been added to the debate over the last 2-3 weeks and when I log on here now all I see is petty slanging matches - I've even got caught up in one myself with Vambo who's idea of the consortium blowing the budget on some big money signings and then leaving it to the CIC to clear up the financial maelstrom is just about the most stupid thing I've read on a St Mirren forum - and there's always been plenty of competition for that mantle.

Just as well I had some time on my hands...Now, I was coming round to some of your more sensible ideas and comments and then I read back on some of your earlier posts and you come out with pish like this.

Where did I offer that up as an idea you pompous windbag?

  14. maybe thats it.....one of his family is a horse which will run the bar

    Neigh chance :P

Great post Gruffalo, but I think you're wrong about this bit. I think there is every chance that 10000hours could and would survive without St Mirren FC and it's fans. It could just move on to another project. There are already many examples of CIC's and SEN's that have been operating successfully right across Scotland. Some are running swimming pools, or sports centres. Some are running bike clubs. And ofcourse we all know about Edinburgh Spartans, Stenhousmuir and Clyde and where they are at too. Indeed 10000hours and their like would be welcomed by all manner of community groups who are looking to become less reliant on grants and public sector handouts and to start generating their own income.

If St Mirren miss out I think it's very much their loss. There is massive potential here but if the fans are struggling to see it as more than just a pub then I've got serious doubts the potential will ever be realised. Remember the candidates for election to the respective boards are going to be answerable to Individial Membership, many of whom simply won't / can't see the bigger picture.

Oh, I think most can see bye the bar mate. As far as the election goes, thats what happens at all elections
