Isn't that what we all do on a football forum?

But to answer your question - it's yet to be confirmed whether he is a better player than Kovacic. Czech's and Croats have a solid midfield. Those 2 games will be won or lost there imo. England game is more about defending well as we'll likely be pinned back for a lot of the game

Like you say, it's up to Steve Clarke

There's really no reason at all why we should be getting pinned back by England for long periods. I don't see that happening at all. We have players to match them for quality virtually all over the pitch.

Their big danger is going to be set pieces and Kane. Nullify both of those and we should certainly be looking to take a point at least.

Can't wait for this to get started TBH. :D

Was beginning to think I'd never see us qualify again in my lifetime.

    Love the optimism.

Gilmour & Patterson both get a start for me & I would be very comfortable with the majority of our team.

Wouldn't be unhappy to see Patterson in as well.

Both of them add some excitement and we saw them cause utter panic in their defence last week.

Both have also played at the top level in either the EPL or Europe so the idea that they lack experience is weak.

We only get one chance. Chuck 'em in and let's see what happens.

I suspect Clarke will go for McGregor and O'Donnell though.

    Agreed.

When we first qualified I was very much of the “please God just don’t let us get humiliated” opinion.

However, I am much more confident now. I think our top players appear to be on excellent form, our fair to middling players seem to be at the top of their game and I’m particularly pleased with the injection of youth into the squad as a potential way to change things up if required.

We'll not be finishing bottom of this group, I'm pretty sure of that.

Don't expect us to lose any of these games.

A win and 2 draws would be my prediction but quite honestly, we have a very good chance of winning all of these games with two of them being at home and fans being allowed in. The England game is a bit more tricky to call but I expect a draw there at least.

There's so much excitement about qualifying but this could be a very special tournament for us. We have quality all over the pitch and in some depth too.

We absolutely must start with Gilmour instead of McGregor IMO.

significant parts of the legal system are based on the 10 commandments and some judgements, including one very famous one originating from events in Paisley reference them.

    Yes, I'm aware of that.

That's why I will continue to attack religion until this corrupt shite is removed from our society.

And you consider yourself to be an example of a better developed group?  Well, whitever

ANYHOO, would you not agree that better developed people can look into a particular faith, as it is taught and followed today, take on board the good parts of the message and make their own mind up about the old-testament stuff (incidentally, written before anyone had heard of christ, never mind christians (they were a rubbish band anyway))

People can believe what they want.

Just keep that shite away from our legal system, don't brainwash kids who are too young to be able to make their own minds up about these things and keep it out of our daily lives. Also, don't try to "convert us".

Beyond that, go and believe in conspiracies, aliens, sky fairies, whatever you want.

I see the Scottish Government are trying to get their emergency powers extended till at least next March.

Given they estimate that the vast majority of the adult population will be vaccinated in a couple of months, not sure what the justification for this is, apart from a blatant attempt to retain archaic powers by wee Nicky and her entourage.

For those not paying attention, current coronavirus legislation allows for a whole range of government organisations to not meet their legal obligations. This, of course, disproportionately affects the vulnerable.

    Absolutely scandalous.

She's also asking for furlough to be extended.

Normally, I'm quite optimistic about things but I'm getting a horrible feeling that we won't see all restrictions removed until everyone is doubly vaccinated, winter is over, deaths and hospitalisations have gone to zero, cases have gone to zero and we've doubly vaccinated virtually everyone in every non-third world country.

    That will be next summer.

August is really the deadline for double vaccinations. Beyond that we're into flu season and there's just no way she'll open up at a time like that.

More than happy to be wrong about this but I do think we're looking at another year of this.

I'm looking forward to Fitzys predictions for next season.

If it's not to challenge for a place in Europe plus at least one Cup semi-final then I'll be very surprised and disappointed.

Going to be a great season. Can't wait for it to start. Hopefully some of you whippersnappers will be able in to see games as well.

  8. 9 hours ago, bonzoboys said:

Slightly off topic but about the Euros squad, hopefully one of you can help. Given that vaccinations are now getting to younger people, they are more readily available, why was the Scotland squad, families, back roof staff and even fringe players not vaccinated a month ago. Appreciate not 100% full proof but would certainly have reduced the risk. Even with life in a bubble, this might have helped.

Because medically there would be no justification for rushing it through.

We still have some vulnerable people to sort out wth 2nd jags.

Footballers are, and should be, well down the list of priorities.

In addition, after a year of football, the number of outbreaks at clubs has been miniscule so clearly there's not much wrong with how clubs are doing things.

Nope. You were arguing against a statement/point I made, so it couldn't be me building strawmen.

Nope, no link, can't remember what thread it was.

I can't remember it either and I'm not going to comment on your point out of context.

To the relief of everyone I imagine. 😄

  10. 1 hour ago, Slarti said:

That's funny, a while back you argued with me for days about whether or not you can choose what you believe.

Actually, I seem to remember accusing you of creating strawman arguments.

Do you have a link to that particular discussion?

  11. 56 minutes ago, Slarti said:

I don't believe it.  But then again, I tend to not believe things until there is evidence for them (or, at least, enough evidence to show a likelihood, even if not definitive).

All down to not being able to choose what you believe (again).  Maybe once it's published there will be enough evidence to convince me but, until then, I'm not convinced and therefore do not believe it.  Very intelligent people can be wrong too, even if they are talking about fields in which they are authorities, so their credentials mean nothing unless they can back up their claims with evidence.  Just the same as anything else.

Don't disagree with any of that.

If I wanted to read shite like this I would just buy the Daily Mail 😂☝️

I'm not so sure that this is shite. This story is being published in other media outlets.

The two authors of the forthcoming paper are very credible medical scientists.

What is interesting is that they've struggled and failed to get it published for about a year. That in itself is not unusual - they've probably been trying to get it into journals like Nature and the waiting list and failure list for a journal like that is enormous. What's more of a concern is that they've claimed that it's because people view their research as racist. That right there is a red flag and sounds like conspiracy theory bollocks which they need to clarifying. It's unusual to get feedback of that type from reviewers of submitted papers so they need to explain why they think that's the reason for having the paper rejected.

The authors also state (paraphrasing) that "it's against the law of nature to have 4 consecutive positively charged amino acids, thast has to be man-made." Well it's either against the law of physics or it's not. If it's against the law of physics for it to be naturally occurring then it would also be against the law of physics for it to be man-made. That needs explaining too.

As of yet, the paper is still not published. It remains to be seen whether that's because it's been approved and is now awaiting a free slot in a future edition in this journal or whether it's still awaiting peer-review.

So I wouldn't dismiss it just yet.

Is it because, well, ye ken, the Torygraph is really just an English paper, for English people (like a local shop, for local people) and therefore anyone who reads it is OBVIOUSLY English.

    Hmm. emoji848.png

So about £8.55m per year "lost" in transfers.

I wonder how much that investment each year returned in prize money both nationally and in Europe.

Then there would be the return from shirt sales etc globally as a result of the extra visibility which comes from being at the top of the English game for so long.

It must be over £1bn across his career I'd imagine. Some return on investment right there.

  16. Comparing Naismith favourably to Tait is borderline offensive.

Tait is a class act and absolutely one of our best and fittest players. In terms of shear attitude on the pitch and leading by example, I'd challenge anyone to provide a better example in recent memory.

He's probably been left out of some games because there are better players for a back 3 and maybe to rest him a little.

I’m not saying that I know of someone better to take his slot in the Scotland squad. I’m saying that if there isn’t anyone better, then it’s a bit of an indictment of the level of talent in that position at the moment

Or, and I know this is a real stretch, it could be that you are shit at spotting a good young player. 😁

  18. 8 hours ago, bazil85 said:

It's a bit of a throwaway line with most players giving similar during these types of interviews. I hope we can tie him down longer but I wouldn't be reading too much into an interview with the Paisley Daily Express.

If it was me, I wouldn't sign a new contract with a year to go.

Especially when I'd just had an international call up.

I'd wait until January next season at the earliest.

I'd take my chances of a bigger club coming in with a lot more money - multiples of anything Saints can offer.

    Yep.

On a serious note, this is the market we're going to be shopping in so we should get used to the idea of trying to unearth a gem from the lower divisions.

We didn't do too badly out of Ireland either although I suspect most of us thought Jim had made a mistake there.

What is a real surprise is that we've consistently struggled to bring good players up from the lower leagues in England.

  21. 10 minutes ago, antrin said:

Seriously... why would anyBuddie bother responding to any query by you when you constantly bitch about 'mansplaining'?

    You know it all.

You're not to be taken seriously.

    Well. What a surprise. :thumbsdown

Why don't the pair of you come back to the topic when you have an opinion you've given more than 20- seconds of thought towards. Preferably an opinion which doesn't collapse like a flan under the pressure of a couple of simply questions.

  22. So currently, we have 14 players who could reasonably expect to play in each game and 5 others including 2 spare goalies and 3 kids (Reid, Finlayson and Jack).

I reckon we need to find another 4-6 regulars who would push to be in the starting 11. At a push if all fans are allowed back next season we might be able to get to 7 others. We're waiting on 4 deciding including Jamieson who I expect will stay unless he's offered regular football elsewhere. I wouldn't include him as one of the 14 yet though. Mind you, Henderson came from nowhere and I've included him.

So, if JDH, Durmus and Connolly all stay we might be looking for another 1-4 players ready for the starting 11 depending on budget.
