  1. Although this was a dire performance from us it was only our 2nd league game of the season. For me the issue I feel most worrying is that we seem to have very little to offer in midfield, albeit not 1 player came through that game today with any pass or even average marks. Indeed I would go as far to say that the 20mins or so that Thommo was on the park suited him down to earth, he was by far the best player. It is clear that this suits not only him but also Mr Murray as well.

Perhaps the changes made to the side from the Rangers game by Ian Murray were necessary, who knows, but the sooner we get a settled team the better.

  2. Dilo was one that we should have definitely hung on to, never understood that.

Totally agree with you, by the way who is Dilo playing with now?. I even tweeted him ,when he was with us, advising he should consider staying with us for 1 more season, hopefully by that time his nerves would have settled a bit because once he could play with hardly any nervousness in his game he would go on to be either an English Championship player/English Premier League player.

  3. I am sick hereing about Langfield and Shankland coming to St.Mirren, for weeks now many of us have followed and contributed to the rumours, myself included, that the deal was done and either one or both of them would be joining. Both of them have had plenty of time to sign, if the rumours mooted indicated some form of being truthful, they have not, so surely Ian Murray has got other players in mind he could have or is going to sign in those positions. So as far as I am concerned, let both of them stay with the club they are with and stay well clear of St.Mirren.

On another point how much in proportion of income, in particular from the sale of John McGinn, was the manager given for new signings

  4. Its good this forum has a variety of opinions held. My owns from last night are much in line with some others on this forum. Ridgers saved us on many a occasion with his point blank stops however his lack of command of the penalty box was poor combined with his kicking of the ball. Agnew in my opinion was a little dynamo, but no sooner had he won the ball only to turn into trouble and loose possession. During the first 25mins we were overrun, in particular down the left time and time again, the occasion seemed to get to Conlon, certainly the left side needs sorting out. McMullan had a great game unfortunately he had little support. Thommo should never have taken the penalty and even although he has scored a few penalties his taking of them is dubious to say the least, and I am not just saying that because he missed the penalty last night. I also thought Baird, whilst a bit rough round the edges, was good on the night. The boy Gallagher came on for a short period from what I saw of him I think he will be a good asset. Overall it was not the best performance, and another striker along with a goalkeeper is a must, however whist a defeat is never good their were a lot of positives to be taken from this game. I like the direction that Ian Murray is trying to take the club, but it will take time before he has got the team playing the way he wants.

  5. I would guess that both Langfield and Samson are waiting to see if they will get better offers from other clubs, however this could prove dangerous, simply because if no other better offers are forthcoming then perhaps it will lead to the ball being in St.Mirrens hands and with 1 contract on offer and taking into account Ian Murrays words at the Q&A night that contract would go to Langfield as his best goalkeeping years are past him and he would appear to be the best candidate for a coaching role.

  6. I think there's a degree of "rose tinted glasses" going on here.

Our last couple of 'keepers haven't been without their faults.

Kello started off well for us, but got progressively worse. Anyone remember his contribution to our defeat by Dundee United?

Samson had many weaknesses, much in the same way Ridgers does. His miskick against Hibs and a "disallowed" goal that he chucked into the net v the blue bigots spring to mind. The latter should have stood.

Is Ridgers a great 'keeper? Probably not, but then again, we're not a great team.

However, if Langfield is signed, then it would be hard to see past him as first choice 'keeper.

What I was trying to get across, is that there is no need by some on this forum to denigrate Ridgers by calling him some unsavoury names, because in doing so may very well lead to lowering the Ridgers confidence which in turn may lead to the team playing poorer and ultimately the football club in its entirety suffering. I accept that if Langfield is signed he might be the first choice goalkeeper, that's up too the manager, but in know way should that mean Ridgers is a poor goalkeeper and I do not think that is the will of me to a degree looking through rose tinted glasses.

  7. Ridgers is not all that bad a goalkeeper, sure he has a way to go but the lad will get there, we have had worse goalkeepers over the years, but it will be no good for him or St.Mirren continually running him down. Another thing is the amount of bile posted on this site towards Cheesy contributed to his eventual departure it seems some on here want the same fate to happen to Ridgers, and then this would leave us with untried 19year old Dan Wilks.

  8. There are plusses for both Sky and the BBC.

Sky's coverage is very slick but adverts every 10 minutes are a real pain.

Sky, as I recall, paid £10 against BBC's offer of £7 so you can't blame the R&A for accepting.

I've just cancelled my Sky sports as they've lost the Champions League and the overall cost is considerable. I'm considering getting rid of Sky all together.

I'd rather poke my eyes out with a sharp stick than go to BT for my broadband as they are cnuts but the lure of the Champions League could sway me to get the sports package.

    Still weighing up my options.

You forgot too mention that BT also charge you for leaving. £30 is the standard fee

  9. Will cone down to personal circumstances he has two young girls in primary school Abd wife a nurse in groan hospital

Thats the main issue the kids being put in a new school, having to make new friends, buying/renting a house, he has got to be paid the right amount and it will depend on his wife getting a job asap, probably the Southern General. It,s a big upheavel all in all its as billymehmet 1 says, it comes down to personal circumstances.

To me its 50/50 without knowing everything involved. I personally think it won,t happen

  10. Their was not one player in the game against Bradford City I was overwhelmingly impressed by. Given that I do not think you can take much, forby finess, or anything at all from friendly games. In Ian Murray I believe we have a good manager who does not seem to make any rash signings and time and time alone will prove whether if he is the right man for the job. Like all St.Mirren fans I certainly hope he is but please do not judge the man already which several of the posts seem to be inclining to do.

  11. As a St.Mirren supporter of almost 58years you just never know what type of season you are going to get but in the manager we have placed our trust as reflected in the upward trend of season tickets as compared to last season. So far we hopefully have signed some decent players for the Scottish Championship and got rid of those that our manager thought were not up to the mark. My guess, which is just as good as others that contribute to this forum, is that will we will not only bring in another couple of signings but also have a good season.

So at this stage I am not panicking and my hope is neither will other St.Mirren supporters and give Ian Murray a chance from us to build a team.
