  1. Mrs McPherson funnily enough, the last classroom looking inward to the playground on the 1st floor............

He left the school after they got hitched in the summer, remember the chart thing in 'The Neilsonian' Bobby's Girl...............................................

Yeah I know , I mean before that !

  2. I remember one particular elbow in the face he gave me back in 1980! we all thought he was OLD then but couuld only have been mid/late 30s..........but it wasn't just football, he encouraged every sport.

He was probably not "universally popular" in the school but I liked him and taught me all I knew (not much) about how to play right back....I can imagine him belting Billy for kicking the volley ball....he had a real big thing about that!

He does not enjoy great health now but is still well to the fore in Campbeltown life......dont be hard on him BillyG, he is one of us!

That'll be the same one then , he was always a bully. Nickname in the JNH , for some reason , was Bobby Moore !

  3. If it's the same Sandy McPherson that I'm thinking about he was a P.E. teacher in the JNH in the 70s. He was an alright footballer from what I remember but never played senior. He was also an arsehole , belting me for kicking a volleyball in the gym.

He would have you believe that he played senior but it's not true. A legend in his own mind !

  4. Hi Raymond , just spoke to Big John Conway a friend of Derek's. He confirmed the tragic news that Derek collapsed in Well St today on his way to the game , he never regained conciousness and died. A true St Mirren supporter and friend who I first met at an away game in Stranraer in 1973.

I am shattered by the news and thoughts are obviously with his family. RIP Derek

  5. I see the station bar won't be re-opening.

Landlord apparently not the brightest spark.

Apparently the prospective new owner was asked to provide details of his other business interests and proof of income from them , and he coudn't come up with enough to satisfy the powers that be !

  6. asks a question, then answer same question with a question of questionable accuracy

I've never heard of it before, and I know all the seedy joints in the town , so Oakshaw was a good bet as I haven't frequented that area too often since my school days !

  7. Not a pub but I see Cardosis are opening a cafe on the High St on the site of the old Aroma Rooms.Looks lovely.Nice to see that stretch of the HS coming to life again.

Yes , although the "Chocolatz" cafe and chocs shop is closing soon and moving to a unit near Canal St station.

  8. If your a Ned junkie, you'll have great night, Paisley is a shit hole, Lively bars that's a good one, if you find one let us know, go to Glasgow i did myself last Saturday

Tad harsh Gary ! My gig was cancelled late on Saturday afternoon so I ventured into town. Ended up in Gabriels for a few hours and it was busy but not overcrowded. Clientele was mostly aged 30-50 and Mark Sutherland runs a good Karaoke.

  9. Load of Bollocks. The rail link didn't make a lot of sense in the first place, surely it wouldn't cost hundreds of millions of pounds to run a free bus service to the airport as suggested?

It's only bollocks if you have allowed yourself to be brainwashed by the arseholes that are resident in the house on the hill !

  10. I think this is fantastic news.

Okay, so it'd have been better if it had never been started in the first place, but the whole idea of a Glasgow Airport rail link is bizarre in the extreme.

We're not talking Heathrow, CDG, etc where the airport is 30-40 miles from the city it serves.

The only reason this could ever have got off the ground was a combination of politicians' egos, and no doubt a few backhanders to certain parties.

It really is an Emperor's new clothes idea.

Spend £340m on a rail link that is totally unnecessary... or spend a tiny fraction of that laying on free buses from the airport to Gilmour Street or Paisley St Mirren stations. Problem sorted.

As I say, I almost want to cry at the amount of money that we've already spent on this, but that sorrow is tempered by the fact the drain caused by the White Elephant Rail Link has stoppped at last.

Best news I've heard all year!

Heathrow and Paris CDG are 10 miles from the respective city centres , Glasgow is 8 miles ! The CDG station connects the airport directly with most of France , just like GARL and Crossrail would do for Glasgow Airport which would make the airport far more attractive to airlines. The Scottish Government is too short-sighted and bias in favour of Edinburgh.
