  1. If a player is told he has no future at the club he has two choices, rot away with no chance of playing or go to a club who will offer him a chance to play. If Imrie is indeed offered then I would assume he would choose to go and play albeit in the first division rather than being somewhere he is not wanted and no chance of pulling th boots on. There is one other alternative and that is to put him out on loan if no deal can be struck to have him permanently move on.

Wow! Talk about killing two birds with one stone.

Can't see Morton going for that. At least not for any of the players under contract who have supposedly been told to find other clubs (Imrie, Mair, Guy and Adam). None of them are actually worth anything, and they would have to agree to the move probably at a lower wage.

  2. I think he's wrong too, Shull, but just you watch the football authorities break and bend the rules, maybe even create new rules to keep Hearts in the SPL. They came precious bloody close to letting Rangers away with it last year and got caught out by the fans and by the SFL. They've had plenty time to think about Hearts because everybody and their granny knew it was coming. I've got no faith in the SFA or SPL and I wouldn't let them organise a social club's bingo sessions. They would cheat.

WTF, my post disappeared. What I said in summary was that any manipulation of the rules by the SPL would lead to the courts and further discredit to the Scottish game.

  4. Guy imrie Adam Samson McGowan Carey Parkin goncalves Newton dummett Chris smith is 11 players leaving dont think he knows what he's doing!!

Well for starters, Goncalves, Newton and Dummett were loan signings and not our players and it was always on the cards that they would leave. So that leaves 8. Samson and McGowan are out of contract and can choose another club that likely pays more money or further their career. That leaves 6. Smith was brought in as a standby only to cover for Adam when he was injured and was never going to be with us longer than this season. That is us down to 5 players. Parkin was never going to be kept on as he is no longer good enough at this level while there are alledged issues with Imrie and Guy. We are now down to 4 players. AFAIK, Imrie and Guy are still with the club so that leaves just 2 - Adam and Carey. The issues and feeling around Carey already discussed and apparently there are some issues around Adam with discipline etc. Aberdeen have just released 11 players but like us will bring new faces in during the close season. I am more interested in who is coming in rather than who is going out at this time. If it improves the team then fair enough and if not then the manager has to deal with that.

  5. The keeper position is our biggest worry next season, I've never really rated Sammy in the same breath as Money, Ludo, Combe, Gallacher who we've had whilest growing up. They are keeper that have won us games and made spectacular saves, I don't think Sammy is in that group and I hope we bring in someone with a bit of experience who can be up there.

I would not worry. There will be a number of good keepers looking for a club in the summer. There will be a few new names next season within the entire team. I would like to judge young Adam and hope Danny gives him a game now that the season has ended for us and we are unlikely to achieve a higher position.

  6. Got a funny feeling that if he was to leave Dimdee then Partick is a likely place for him to return to.

Would like us to look at Gary Harkins, not sure when his Dundee contract ends though, think they paid a fee for him in January. Far too good a player to be in the 1st division anyway, maybe as it seems Imrie wants out we could offer a swap?

  7. Aye, Jim Gilmour the " goalie" for one.

    Add another "goalie" - Herriot.

Jim Gilmour - now some horrific memories particularly one - think it was against the **** - where he ushered the ball as if it was going by the post only to see it snuggle nicely in the back of the net. The worse goalie I have seen playing for us and that is something when you consider Scrimgour and Smith.

  8. I think if we confirm that grant Adam is joining the club then we can reasonably assume Kenny is on his way south

Why? Adams is a goalkeeper which we need to fill and McLean is a midfielder. How do you deduce that Kenny is going down south?

  9. My only interest in Macpherson is to expose the hypocracy and stupidity of the likes of you. laugh.png

But far better than it was before he was manager.

And if he was that bad then surely Danny Lennon wouldn't ended up with us finishing further away from a top 6 spot.

Gus Macpherson - still getting you angry and showing you up to be a fool! laugh.png

OK, I will bite. Yes, definately Gary Blue under a new name. Why can't you reply like an intelligent person rather than resorting to accusatory remarks. What part of my post clearly specifies that I am 'hypocratic and stupid'? If someone disagrees with you does that make them hypocratic and stupid? I simply feel that Gus is history and if you really want to judge him then defend his position of taking QOS to relegation? I have never been a critic of Gus but felt, like the board, that the time was right for change - how does that imply that I angry?. Time will judge Danny Lennon as to whether he is a better or more successful manager. What is beyond doubt is that the football under him is on the whole much better than Gus's last 2-3 seasons.

Now, what part of my post implies that I am 'angry'? I, like many other fans on this forum, now find the whole Gus debate tedious. Time to move on and accept that he is not coming back. I have watched the club since 1967-68 so am able and intelligent enough to make my own judgements on managers and the club in general. At this time our manager is Danny Lennon and first and foremost you support the club no matter who is in the hot seat. He will eventually leave and we will have some bemoaning the new manager and saying how good a job Danny had done. It happens all the time.

  10. There is no pessimism in the post you quoted.

Are there any other teams you want to see bypass the rules and gain promotion to the SPL? lol.gif

    Here's some facts for you.

Gus Macpherson took us to our highest finish in 20 years twice in 3 years as well as our first League Cup Final in 55 years, first Scottish Cup Semi Final in 23 years, biggest league win over Celtic in 104 years and twice got us closer to the top 6 than Danny Lennon.

    And you wanted him sacked.

Danny Lennon has us finishing further away from the top 6 than Gus Macpherson managed and you fawn all over him.

    Will that do? lol.gif1eye.gif

Gary Blue returns. McPherson is history, get real and move on. Btw, football under Gus was rank for years. If he was that good then he would still be manager.

  11. Wallinger never really got the success/recognition he deserved. Scotty still denies him the recognition he deserves for TWoTM. .

Best thing Karl did was to leave Waterboys. World Parties first 3 albums are essential buys and just wish the guy produced more music,

Saw Mike Rosenberg aka Passenger on Sunday for the umpteenth time. Ed Sheerin stole his style while touring with him but cannot hold a candle to this guy's talent as a songwriter and musician. If you like Sheerin then listen to Mike's music (particularly Wicked Man's Rest album) and you will see exactly what I am saying about taking his style and making him a big hit whereas Mike should be the one up there. Unique voice like Tracy Chapman/Cat Steven as a hint but much better - just don't say James Blunt.

  12. Gus Macpherson was sacked after achieving our highest league finish in 2 decades AND reaching our first League Cup Final in 55 years.

    Lennon must go!

Gus was sacked because the football was so dire that fans were staying away. He also bought a load of crocks too. Get over him. Time has moved on and no doubt that if your beloved Gus had managed to accrue as many points while playing some nice football you would be screaming for a contract extention. You don't like Danny but you support the team first and foremost. Your continual sniping is now bordering on greater tedium than Britains Got Talent. Give it a rest and thank f*ck the season is over but I doubt that will stop your broken record around our manager. He is going nowhere so what is the point of your constant greetin' - are you expecting our team to be challenging up there after a number of mind numbing seasons of mediocrity?

  13. More and more I'm beginning to wonder whether it's worth having a car at all.

Apart from the cost of fuel, insurance, tax, MOT's, parts, services and repairs, so many people get disproportionally wound up behind the wheel of a car it makes driving in town and motorways a horrible experience.

I live just outside quite a busy junction in Dennistoun and every other time the lights change during busy times, some idiot thinks he has time to go through the red light. Why can't they wait two minutes? What can be so important that they have to endanger the lives of themselves and whoever is just about to go through their green light?

ETA: will bus companies be affected if the drivers go on strike?

Yes, same with the Raithe Interchange where you get a green light after coming off the M74 only to see that cars and lorries are clearly not understanding what the red signal means. Personally, I would put cameras in traffic lights and cut down the speed cameras. There is no doubt that bad driving, particularly at junctions where there are operational lights, causes more accidents and disruption than someone speeding at 40 in a 30 mph zone. I am not condoning speeding in built up areas but for me most of the accidents I have witnessed at main junctions are caused by those who either do not heed the traffic signals or are incompetent and simply are not fit to be out in the road with the risks they take.

  14. I have seen McQuade play a couple of games and he simply doesnt look anywhere good enough for the SPL. McShane has shown more potential in a lot less time than McQuade has ever done and is 5 years younger. In this League you dont have the luxury of giving someone 5 games to see if they are any good. McQuade shows DL every day in training what he is capable of and since he isn't picked I think that tells its own story.

Now that we have no reserve league it can take any player 5 games or more to get up to match fitness or at least adapt to the speed of the game at SPL level. I think you are a bit harsh judging him when he has not had much game time. I agree that he should be given the chance to prove he can cut it at this level. A few of my friends actually rate him as the one player from Cowdenbeath with the most talent and potential. Only time will tell.

  15. Div, with something so imminent, I would have expected something official from the club to that effect. As usual, we are in the dark having expected all of this to have been resolved when the extension was asked for way back months ago. Still I am sure we will hear things in due course once it is posted on the BBC Sports site.

  16. Couldn't agree with you more - it really amazes me that people on the forum think that anyone who questions DL or criticises him should wait another couple of months until it's too late to sort it out.

No-one on this forum is new to football or the saints, I reckon we've more or less seen it all supporting our team. We've sat through some truly awful football and some glorious days too. I think this gives us the right to form an opinion on how the team and manager are shaping up we dont need permission to voice our concerns - and I for one am extremely concerned.

I make no bones about the fact that I was a Gus fan - dont think he was the messiah or anything but he was a good manager for us but I wanted DL to be great cause I love my team. It doesnt give anyone any pleasure to talk about how bad we are just now or how concerned they are about a manager who seems lost and likes to publicly criticise the team.

.......there got it off my chest now - carry on folks !

6 games........with a depleted squad is urely not the time to panic? Big Butcher had a nightmare start in the first division then once his team gelled they went on a great run. You need to give Danny time and judge him when he has his full squad to pick from. He strikes me as the kind of guy who, if he cannot take our club forward, will more than likely walk away. I think he has a lot of potential and a club like ours should be giving him time to make his mark. We were never going to be anything other than a struggling side with the reduction in money from TV, dwindling gates and the quality of and apathy for football in Scotland in general.

  17. Some of the pish spouted on this site these days really makes me despair.

Aye, it's been a shite start to the season, but for f**k's sake it's been 6 f**king games!! I can't believe the utter gash that I'm reading. The post that the BOD are to blame was one that wound me up particularly. Those guys are the reason we've even still got a club to be bitching and whinging about. That, in my opinion should make them fairly untouchable to the knicker wetting and predicatable pish being spouted about budgets etc. f**k off!

As for the manager's position. I for one didn't want Gus to be sacked. However I'm not on here giving it the "I told you so's" like some people. We are where we are and we have the manager we have. He's had six games. Hardly enough time to be judged, or it certainly shouldn't be.

Someone mentioned that DL was the only applicant for the job. Other people are saying we should bin him now and get someone new in. How many applicants would there be for a job at a club where the f**kwit "fans" demand the manager's head on a plate after 6 games?? And if the board give in to fan pressure and bin him......what then?? Pay him off and give someone else 6 games to sort it out? Assuming someone actually wants the job of course.

At least give the guy a decent crack at it before you condemn him.

I can take watching shite football if it means results (Gus era), and as it stands I can handle watching a team that is clearly still trying to gel with new players and a manager adapting to life in the SPL. But the kind of pish written on this board sometimes really makes me embarassed to be a St Mirren fan. We must have the most unrealistic and demanding fans outwith the OF and if anyone thinks that this negativity from the fans has no effect on the way the team play or an apparent lack of team spirit then they are sadly, sadly misguided. If I were a player at the club i wouldn't feel any affilliation with the support considering the abuse that's projected at the team every week. I've even seen previous teams booed whilst winning games....I mean...that's grade A bawbaggery of the highest order.

Everyone is entitled to offer an opinion, and I've no doubt everyone who bothers to post on here genuinely believes they have the best interests of THEIR club at heart. But FFS if all you ever talk about is failure, if all you ever offer is negativity and if you batter the players / coach for any mistakes they make then ultimately you're going to be proven right....it's a ridiculously self fulfilling prophecy and a f**king massive waste of everyone's time and effort.

Some people seriously need to get a grip!

Brilliant post.......sensible and right from the heart mate.

Wonder where Gary Blue is these days as he has been rather silent.

  18. I take your point, but David Moyes has a good history as manager of Everton, so the fans will give him the benefit because they know he has turned things around in the past.

Gus to a certain extent had the same at St.Mirren, particularly when we went on the oft-quoted long win-less runs.

Lennon doesn't have that to fall back on.

It's up to Danny and the players to dig in and start performing better, and I am sure every single St.Mirren fan must hope that they do.

I take your point Dave but I was simply indicating the 'now' position in that Everton are bottom of the league with only 3 points but the club know they have a good manager there and will get them out of it in due course. Danny has had 6 league games and we need to give him time to sort things out rather than screaming for his head after only half a dozen games.

  19. but i thought that getting a new manager would instantly improve things?

take the blinkers off. we need to get shot of lennon now before the situation gets worse.

What are you on about? Are you implying that any manager gets no more than 6 games to change things at a football club? Imagine if Man Utd binned Fergie after 6 fames - I think it was 5 years before they won anything. Noone knows just how things will improve - or not - until the team is bedded down and we have a fit squad to choose from.

I do not need blinkers my friend. I am a realist and know that having watched the buds for 43 years my expectations are with feet firmly on the ground. Knee jerk reactions like sacking a manager after 6 games would make our club not only seriously impatient/unprofessional but also the laughing stock of Scottish football.

You have clearly been against Danny since day 1 or, if not, you have a strange way of showing loyalty at such an early stage of the season. No amount of moaning from you and londonbud will make the board suddenly decided to sack a 'promising' manager learning his trade at the top of Scottish football. We have no divine right to be in the top league and we have to earn that right to stay there. The BOD have seen something in Danny that you and others don't and they will stand and fall by their decision in due course. However, at least give the manager at least the first quarter before you vent you spleen.

  20. my god,how misguided i have been, there was me thinking its time to act before things get out of hand !! but no ,the time to act is when it too late to do anything about it ??

What is so difficult to understand? We are among 6 other teams who are performing just as badly as we are points wise. Do you hear Everton fans wanting Davie Moyes out yet they have only 3 points and bottom of the league? No, like their fans it is far too early to panic after only a handful of games. Get real FFS, we are a small club who are fortunate to have stayed in the SPL with the limited budget and considering we were on the brink of going out of business not that long ago. It takes time and being a fan of our beloved club means we will all have far more downs than up.

  21. killie aren't paying much higher wages than us - and neither are inverness or st. Johnstone. we've lost to all 3 now. and hamilton aren't paying higher wages either.

And how many points are they ahead of us in the league? That is my point. The time to become really concerned is when we are adrift of those teams by a sizable margin. Until then, get behind the manager and team and do what a supporter is supposed to do - support.

  22. Absolutely Rubbish!!

So if st mirren are losing and playing shit, anyone who critises the manager isn't a true Saints fan!

The reasoon that they are so upset is because they LOVE St Mirren.

Whats happening at the moment is feckin terrible. We could have been a club on the up but we are not. We are playing really bad.

I don't want us to be relegated. My wee boy will be so upset.

I really hope that Danny Lennon will turn it around. And I think, giving time he will. But due to the transfer window, injuries etc, I don't know if he will turn it around in time.

    Sad times

The bottom line is that St Mirren are dealing in the bargain basement of football - the Primark of this world. Others, many in debt, e.g. Killie, Dundee Utd and Hearts, are paying much higher wages than we can afford. The club nearly went out of existence in the first division and our board pulled a rabbit out of the hat and managed to get us onto an even keel, out of debt and providing us with a brand new stadium and training ground. How some forget those dark days and if we had been offered this position back then we would have bitten the hands off those offering to be where we are. It is time to get a reality check. We cannot compete wage wise with a lot of those clubs and players will always go where the money is. Developing our own youth set up and bring through talent is the preferred route bearing in mind the cost of establish our new training facilities. I would love to see us playing the quality of football seen between 75 and 83 but it's not going to happen overnight or maybe ever again. Any decent talent we bring through will be hard to keep as many others will be able to offer more money. However, we are where we are and the squad, minus some of our more talented players, is what we have. We need to stick with the manager and players to see how they perform over a longer period than simply the first 6 games. Remember, Hamilton had a horrendous start to last season - and this to be honest, but managed to pull things together. Have a bit of patience as shouting and ranting as the manager and players will have a detrimental effect. We all love our club but part of loving the club is to support it even when things are going belly up.

  23. everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and its not easy being downbeat about the team you have supported for 40 years. we would all love to be on here every week signing the praises of the players and the management team, but right now its just not happening. i do think DL is a promising manager, but managers are judged on results just like everyone in their own job,

i just think its a big worry as today DL was a man looking for the ground to open up underneath him when we went 2 nil down. fingers crossed we manage to turn it around,

FFS, it is 6 games we have played and from where I am looking on the league table only the old firm are streets ahead. Hamilton have been getting plaudits but are 1 point ahead of us while Hibs are in freefall if you believe the press. Btw, this ICT beat Dundee Utd 4-0 away but i never heard people scrambling for Peter Houston to be sacked. It is far too early to talk about sackings when there are 90 points to play for. Judge DL when he has a full squad to choose from. Some players are adapting to life in a higher league while DL has had to play some out of position or play a specific formation due to 4 key players missing; Barron, Dargo, Higdon and Thompson - all would likely be first choice picks.

I have watched the team since 1967 and have seen worse sides. However, to call for Gus to be brought back is a joke when many stopped coming for the negative shite that was displayed week in week out. DL needs time and backing and will learn from his mistakes like many other better managers have done. I have seen some knickerwetting in my time but this takes the biscuit and we are not even out of September yet. I am confident that we will improve this season once we have those key players back and others adjust to the pace of the SPL. I have not seen anything special from Fakes or ICT to think that they are miles better than us.

If we are not good enough to stay up this season then we will regroup and come back stronger. The difference being that we will not be in debt and we will still have a club. I would think a number of clubs - Dundee being one - would like to be in our position at this time despite our poor results.
