Whit dae ye think Smokie ?

Think that's bad... my auld man asked what I wanted for Christmas...

I told him "something to wear... and something to play with".

"Santa" brought me a pair o troosers wi the pockets cut oot!

  2. Of course as you will well know , most pads are now made of organic materials too. I'm not saying that not using the gearbox to slow down is bad , but I think there will be more than one contributing factor to the alleged 75% increase!!

they used to put asbestos in brakes.... which is now banned!

I'd rather suffer excess brake ware and some squeals than asbestos-related illnesses.

  3. Most drivers are fine, a minority i dinnae understand.

What is their f*cking rush ?

Why do some drivers drive at a high rate of speed towards Traffic lights that are at red ?

I notice it a lot when i leave the Hurlet and i'm heading for the Lights at Barrhead Road/Crookston Road junction.

I notice ahead that lights are at Red ( so nae rush ) , i then slow by going down the gears and just before the lights, a tap on the brakes will bring me to a halt. Job done, nae hassle, brake pads no getting abused.

Meanwhile, some cars actually increase their speed as they race towards the red lights. WHY ???

Are they imagining somebody with a black and white chequered flag waving them through ?

Do they have to beat everybody to the lights ?

They then slam their brakes on at the last second.

WHO ARE THESE F*CKERS ? ( probably tailgaters also )

    Just bad drivers i suppose.

    F*CKEM !!!

apparently that's auld fashioned and they teach you NOT to do that when learning to drive nowadays Faither! Aye... Ah ken! Whit's the world coming to?

Personally, when it turns red, I never speed towards those lights... I do a handbrake turn to slide into the pub car-park and weave through the diners in the car park before doing a heel-toe brake-clutch manoeuvre out of the car park, accelerating towards Baurheed... thus avoiding the lights completely!!! Sorted! zorro.gif

The point is Oaksoft that It's still being sung elsewhere, and there's still sectarian behaviour being displayed at many football grounds even when the Old Firm aren't in attendance. Everyone has to get their own houses in order. The Old Firm still have a long way to go over this issue but when you look back over my lifetime the progress those two clubs have made is pretty incredible - the same isn't necessarily true of the rest of Scottish Football and that's disappointing.

For me a major part of the problem is that football fans get all tribal about it, something I can never really understand. Why the compulsion to defend complete strangers to you just because they happen to wear the same colour of football scarf? Is it because the football authorities segregate you into separate groups in the same way kids are segregated into different schools? Even in agreeing with me both you and BinEK have been quick to make a defensive point that would insinuate that St Mirren don't have a problem - yet if you take the literal meaning of the word "sectarian" you'll see that really isn't the case. Just look back 18 months or so to the posts of a number of forum regulars who showed a real intolerance towards a church group from Paisley who had become entangled in the whole 10000hours CIC story. Is a call to ban the religious from Greenhill Road really any different to the Rangers sectarian signing policies of the 60s, 70's and early 80's?

I take your point on intent Oaksoft but over the years I've known a good number of Rangers supporters who really didn't want be up to their knees in ******** blood and who really didn't want to see no Pope in Rome and no chapels to sadden their eyes who sung sectarian songs because they viewed it as something you do at a Rangers football match. Is there really any difference between the two?

    Summary...

    Football has become overtly tribal.

  5.

Not at all - it's been a bug bear of mine for many years as many on here well know. It is a sectarian song, there is no question about that at all.

I'll not only back you up on yhat but agree with that particular point.

Fortunately, the lesson seems to have been learned as I haven't heard it for quite some time... mind you... I haven't heard much in the way of singing.

Sorry if agreeing with you ruins your career as a panto villian a la Scotty McClue... but right isn't always popular!

  6. Or we try this : the manager constantly monitors players form both in training & in matches. If he sees that a player is exhibiting a dip in FORM or confidence whilst another player is on the up ... change it !

If its a one off ........ spend the time at the next training session examining mistakes made & trying to learn from them .

I dont believe its right to drop players cause of one bad game , the reason both young full backs are in the team is because of the form (or lack of form of both "1st choice " full backs ") They then become the No1choice & shouldnt lose their place because a speedy winger hangs them out to dry during a game .

wow... far too intelligent and well articulated for a forum Sir... ... can you defend Gowser please? thumbup2.gif

  7. It does happen yes, you also mentioned in the match day thread that he could have been given an injection to play through the injury. I. for one, merely concluded that we could rest him and play a fit gary harkins (who had a decent game) in the same role. Great to see the boss do the sane thing!

If Gowser had a hint of a sniff of a chance of carrying an injury then of course it was the only sane thing to do.

I would NEVER recommend a player take a cortisone injection to alliw him to play... the long term damage is simply not worth it.

I was merely pointing out that it happens!

  8. To be honest , I'm surprised he stayed on the park so long on Saturday considering the kicking he was getting from the hammer throwers. .

He should have come off a lot earlier as it was plain before half time that he was trying to play through an injury... an injury which may have been exacerbated by his determination to play for the cause.

And to think that some idiots don't believe this happens in real life!!!

  9. you wouldnt play him if he had an injury ...triple Doh's and all that

in the words of the great prophet John McEnroe... YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you seriously suggesting that players with slight injuries haven't been offered and given cortisone injections to enable them to get through an important 90 minutes for the sake of the team?

If so... can I suggest you do some homework on the subject... your naivety amuses me!

Ask Alan McGraw of Morton fame how his disability started!!!

  10. Not sure if this has been mentioned already, but a major talking point from the match must be the admirable sportsmanship demonstrated by the ICT number 5 (with bandaged heid) who intervened to avoid Thommo getting booked after being fouled by him.

Very refreshing to see, and he deserves huge credit for this. It was a striker's tackle and the hitman probably couldn't have complained if he had been shown the yellow, but the Caley player held his hand up to ref the to stop him showing the card. Also good to see the Saints support acknowledging this with a round of applause.

We seldom witness moments like this in modern football, and it was great to see.

almost made amends for the tosser getting Lewis Guy booked last season and for maiming umpteen of our players since... but aye... it was an admirable action indeed!
