Got new carpet fitted last week, the carpet bars were also fitted.

When I arrived home I was somewhat dismayed to find one of the screws was bent over and protruding about 1/8"

My wife informed me the "screws" were hammered into position, no screwdriver was used in the process.

I called the supplies the next morning, the nice lady guessed which one of the two guys who had attended it was who had left the bent screw and they would be back up to fix later.

    That tells it's own tale.

The clown arrives, says he didn't think he left it like that  removed the offending screw and hammered in another one.

Now, hammering in screws to the full depth rather defeats the purpose, a nail would be more suited.

When something goes wrong, like the screw bending, I would assume any tradesman would have removed the screw and replaced it.

Anyhow, as these screws were hammered in and not as flush as I would like I tried to tighten them up, but that didn't work as they wouldn't bite.

So, I've removed the stupid small screws, deepened the countersunk hole and fixed nice new shiny longer screws.

    Tradesmen, aye, in name only.

Sounds like he was screwing around.

I’ve written previously about the benefits of regeneration of the town centre with the focus being on encouraging residential developments to take advantage of the fantastic road, rail and air links that exist within a 1 mile radius of the town centre. I can’t think of another town in Scotland that have those transport links.

Absolutely. Since the lockdown started I have spent more time walking in Paisley centre, it’s got to have the most architectural significant buildings outside Glasgow and Edinburgh. We should be promoting the town as a historic visitor attraction.

Need to get rid of some the current residents, not sure getting asked for a loan of a few bob will attract money paying punters.

The same could be said of Dublin. The city centre is close to (walking distance) to some really impoverished areas.

I like it. Change perhaps. We might get back to the pre-multiple stores dominating the high Street and reintroduce difference.

I think when the new museum complex is complete in 2022 it might regenerate the high street. I would like to see old stores like m&s used as office space or business units. They really need to invest in the west end however, well street , well meadow, don’t see why it can’t be a thriving student area, small artisan shops, cheese mongers.....right I have taken it to far.

Closing the High Sr shop but taking the vacant unit on Renfrew Road beside The Range.

In other news, Taco Bell will open at The Phoenix in early August.

Good, we now have retail on the periphery of the town, Lidl, range, Morrison’s etc. This will allow the town centre to become an “old town” of sorts with restaurants, pubs, cinema?
I hope they start converting commercial use buildings to residential. I have always imagined Paisley have an old town quarter with the modern facilities on the periphery, it might just happen.

ps High street shopping is gone forever, it’s the internet , Braehead and silverburn that to blame (if blames the correct word, some may call it progress)

Just at back in the car after first shopping trip wearing a mask.

    Utter shite experience.

Feck wearing one on the plane all the way to Tenerife. 👎

I used to work in a clean room environment for an electronics company back in the 90s , we wore masks for most of our 12 hour shift! You get used to it after a wee while.

    It's not profiteering.

They are trying to ensure they make a profit full stop.

And effectively they are taking a £30 deposit to make sure you turn up.

It's not the same as the calpol thing which definitely WAS profiteering.

Fair points Oaks, FS and Ricky, my zeal may have taken over. When it comes to money I am the Paisley Taliban.

Cloth masks significantly increase the risk of catching influenza type virus

“They thank as well to the staff from the Hanoi hospitals who participated. They also acknowledge the support of 3M for testing of filtration of the facemasks. 3M was industry partner in the ARC linkage project grant; however they were not involved in study design, data collection or analysis. The 3M products were not used in this study”

Mask manufacturer funds research into the efficacy of masks against cloth covering, I wonder what the results will be?
should also be noted that the trail took place in hospital wards. I would not be expecting face coverings to perform better than clinical mask in this environment.

One of the local bar / restaurants I'm on a mailing list for is opening on Monday in it's outdoor spaces in Prestwick. Minimum spend of THIRTY quid per table per booking ffs. Got to give your card details when booking and the £30 is deducted from your final bill. That is sure to put the casual pint hunters off !!!

I think it will tend to put off everyone! Hate this type of profiteering, it was the same at the start of the lockdown with shop keepers charging £8 for calpol!

Weather forecast for Monday is looking good for the opening of beer gardens.  :cheers

Only places in the area that i can think that will be opened are the

    Abbey Inn

    The Lord Lounsdale

    Normandy Hotel

Think the Kind Man in Renfrew has a beer garden

    Flying Scotsman

Maybe places like Harvesters, Steam Wheeler, Brewers Fayre as well.

lord of the isles, canal station, de beers, bar pre and the lane in shuttle street are the only ones I can think of who have a beer garden or outside space.
