Maybe a chunk of NHS TAX MONEY is wasted by those in charge of the NHS.

    I practice austerity.

    It really is good housekeeping.

Football Clubs should adhere to it.

The NHS is the third largest employer in the world, behind the red army and the Indian railway company. Like most large bureaucratic organisations it can spend money at an alarming rate. However the governance mechanisms within the NHS account for every penny being spent wisely. The problem is that governments over the years have used the NHS and schools and the police as a political football that they can tinker with and change to suit there own political agenda ( remember PPI and the abolition of trusts) these changes are massive and cost money and time that could have been saved and spent on direct patient care.

The other significant impact is that the NHS was designed and created when life expectancy was 66 for men and 70 for women (England & Wales) this is Now 81 and 83 respectively. We are living longer, however not without illnesses. We are still vowed as the sick man of Europe, we drink to much, we eat too much and we smoke to much. Most of the population have sedentary jobs and we don’t have a good public transport system which would encourage walking and cycling to and from work.

we all individually have to take responsibility and think long and hard about who we vote into power.

  3. The word "quarantine" originates from quarantena, the Venetian language form, meaning "forty days" This is due to the 40-day isolation of ships and people practiced as a measure of disease prevention related to the plague.

40 days , no more, no less.

  4. I am sure the social care workers will appreciate the gesture, however to put this in perspective, I walked past Dominos piazzas in Paisley yesterday and they are advertising for delivery drivers , £10 an hour plus tips. As much as I feel our delivery drivers and associated food workers are doing a sterling job, should care workers be paid less? I hope when this is all over that we realise what’s really important in life and change the world accordingly.

    Happily working today.

Will go to McHargs the Bakers twice.

While working, I will listen to Off The Ball from 12-2

    Sportsound from 2-5

Then Off The Ball again from 5-7.

    Blissfully a usual Saturday.

Incidentally, I have never tasted a better Scotch Pie than a McHargs the Bakers Scotch Pie.

    Greggs have lost me.

If you are up near the tron, check out the steak bakes, miles better than greggs

I suppose what's seen as "use" of the beach.

Yeah, wide open spaces but if people start to gather in groups then it's defeating the purpose.

If people are sensible then I think it's more than reasonable these areas should be utilised.

Fortunately we, here in Arbroath, haven't, that I'm aware of, had any reports of gatherings and no need for any intervention by the police.

The beach areas here are usually "choc a" at this time of the year as the caravans sites are filling up big time.

Although I am not sure Germany has all the answers, they have lifted a travel ban so that 80000 Romania farm workers can pick the spring crop of asparagus and strawberries.

I hope the smokies are still being processed?

  7. This is an extract from a bbc article about a regional government that took the federal government to court and won. They argued that local people should be able to use their local beaches.

One of the lawyers who argued against the regional government's travel ban, Jost von Glasenapp, called it "meaningless", broadcaster NDR reported.

Nobody, he said, had been able to explain to him "why the infection risk was higher when people travelled from the overcrowded town to the spacious coast".

In its ruling the court also described as "incomprehensible" the authorities' decision to exclude the regional capital Schwerin and its suburbs from the travel ban.

And the judges argued that there would now be more space in the seaside resorts because foreigners and Germans from outside the region could not go there.

Two cases lodged by Germans living outside Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, who wanted to travel there, were rejected by the court.

  8. Interesting article on the bbc website about the amount of testing done in Germany compared with UK. Even more interesting is the figures around health spending per head , Germany 11.1 % of GPD , Uk 9.7% , the EU average is 9.9%

  9. With all this talk of not enough testing for COVID going on, i may just have the solution!
St Mirren stewards, yes that motley crew of part time health experts. Remember how they stepped into the breach for the Hearts game “ stewards will be checking the crowd for anyone who looks ill and they will not be allowed entry to the stadium”

This could be a game changer, do all stewards have this superpower? Every town and city the breadth of the world with a football club could have cheap (£9 ph ?) testing facilities on there door step. I am writing an email to Boris and Nicola ASAP

Apparently the number of domestic abuse calls have shot up. I think it was 45%, in E&W, that I read the other day.

That’s surprising, considering there wasn’t an old firm game, oh oh contentious

Listening to the radio earlier and they were talking about how the number of folk attending A&E has more than halfed.

This is no doubt been down to the Lockdown resulting in less folk getting admitted to the wards from there. Also with the cancellation of minor ops these measures will be freeing up staff, to help with staffing distribution appropriately for the protection of patients and staff in different locations.

I've no doubt most folk would know and appreciate this, but unfortunately some, thankfully a very small minority just want to try and politicise this instead of being grateful for the sacrifice some are doing for us ALL.

The pubs being closed probably has lot to do with it. Interestingly, before COVID I watched a documentary about murder, they stated that 85% of murders in the UK were committed while the assailant was under the influence of alcohol! It will be interesting to see what the crime figures are like during this period of quarantine

You cant compare smoking which is legal to drink driving that is illegal.

People who break the law are cunts who don't care about others and society,

We may be flawed, but that doesn't mean we endangered others by our selfish actions.

I was trying to be egalitarian, you don’t necessarily need to break the law to be a c**t, we can all be cunts.

e.g people smoking outside the main entrance to hospitals, it’s not against the law but it is selfish and harming others.

New Zealand health minister also thinking he doesn't have to take his own advice.

What the f**k is wrong with people like him ?

It’s not a modern phenomenon, my late mother told me about her older brother who wouldn’t leave his bed to go to the bomb shelter in the back garden when Clydebank was getting bombed !!

  15. I have to commend the BBC on there sensible reporting today on the release of daily COVID deaths being reported

Different hospitals will have delays of different lengths of time.

And this makes it a challenge to see the real trend at the moment.

Prof Naismith said daily data releases were good for transparency.

"The only downside of government releasing data in this way is that it has become a scorecard for the media and a worried public," he said.
