Gus in the paper this morning saying Derry offered him a one year deal. He turned it down then changed his mind. When he called them back an hour later they'd already appointed Collins.

I've made no secret of my 'happy-clapper' tendencies, but surely a winning first team including 6 youth team graduates counts as progress and success?
Yes, shouldn't be underestimated.
Wonder if anyone on here will take the credit for playing Kelly (20) and Naismith (19) as full backs?! An awful lot of work will have gone on behind the scenes to ensure that these guys can come into the team and hit the ground running. McLean and McGinn, meanwhile, at 21 and 19, are already experienced first team players.
The management team deserves great credit. Looking forward to seeing more of this crop of youngsters.

For the stattos out there, this is our best league form for 5 years.
In December '08 we won all of our games (Falkirk, INVERNESS, Kilmarnock, HAMILTON). The final game of that winning run was the last ever game at Love Street. Was the year that we stayed up by winning at Falkirk before they relegated ICT on their own ground the following week.

l never saw it at the game either and have not been convinced by what l saw in the highlights , so far. My first awareness of an incident was , when the Toss County hammer throwers complainted. Collum is a good ref' and got the decision right , certainly , it is about time he favoured us a little bit. .
The incident was pretty well hidden from Collum and the cameras, but as FTOF says, it's a miracle that the assistant didn't give it. He actually scooped the ball around the side of the County player and away from the goal.
Anyway know what the hammer throwers were gurning about after the first goal? A few of them were around the referee when we were celebrating.

2-1 flattered them but they should have had a penalty at the end with Goodwin playing volleyball...
Remarkable turnaround in the past few weeks. Hearts won't catch us now and, on the evidence of the past 2 weeks, Thistle and County could well be battling it out for 11th.
Things looking positive!

The individual goal highlights on the SPFL youtube site are pretty good. You can hear the start of the Thompson song after his first yesterday.

Only 5 bigger away wins in the past 25 years:
5-1 Stranraer (Torfason 2, Kinnaird, McDowall, Victor), 26/01/91, Scottish Cup 3rd round
4-0 East Fife (Gillies 2, Hetherston, Taylor), 17/08/96, 1st Division
6-0 Raith Rovers (Yardley 2, Lavety, Ross, Walker, McGarry), 14/08/99, 1st Division
4-0 Ross County (Kean, van Zanten, Sutton, Murray), 03/12/05, 1st Division
6-1 Peterhead (McGowan 3, McQuade 2, Mooy), 18/01/11, Scottish Cup 4th round replay

A few thoughts from yesterday.
Naismith looks hard, strong, can tackle and not bad going forward. The tackle in which he injured himself, in the box on a yellow card, was magnificent.
Kello is so assured you would think he had been goal for us for 10 years.
I'm not sure if Thistle giving up the main stand to the away fans is helping their form at Firhill. Felt almost like we were at home.
-
Biggest away win since September 91. That was 4-1 at Dunfermline. Goals from Charnley, Irvine, Broddle, Lambert. Last 3-0 was at Parkhead.
-
By all accounts, United played very well. However, the "goals against column"..... Last season we conceded the most goals (60) we'd conceded in the SPL since we came back. This season we've conceded 20 in just 10 games. Teams that ships goals at that rate get relegated.
Would any of our defenders be first picks for another SPL side? Meanwhile, 10 games in and we're already onto our 3rd goalkeeper. We are really weak at the back.
We'll take a few more hidings this season. I just hope we can pick up enough wins to avoid 11th. If we do get away with it then the defence will need major surgery, if not complete replacement in the summer.

Mark Crilly is manager of Kilbirnie Ladeside who are doing pretty well in the Juniors.
Tom Hendrie is a maths teacher at Craigmount High in Edinburgh.

As long as we remain detached from the pack I think Danny will remain under pressure. If we are further adrift at xmas than we are now then I wonder if there might be a change.
Whilst it's unlikely that Hearts side will collect 15 points more than us come May, we could easily go down via the playoffs.
Given it's Danny's 4th season and Rangers are absent from the league, we should really be looking at consolidating around 7th or 8th rather than battling to avoid 11th.
-
Huge.
One more game and Hearts will be over a quarter way through their season. Despite us being minging they've only managed to pull 3 points back on us.
Confidence growing. Just hope we can get 3 or 4 wins before xmas to get us into the pack.

Billy Reid I would reckon.
Of the candidates who are affordable and who would want to come, he has the best CV.
-
I thought it was a play off with second bottom and the second, third and fourth places teams ? Or I might be wrong.
Will be, but as the best relegated team(s) from this season's SPL can probably hope for I wouldn't bet on anyone coming straight back up.
-
Just a quick question people. If the club is relegation bound this season who would people like to see in the seat next season (if in championship or whatever its called now) ?.
More likely at least 2 seasons down as R*ng*rs will no doubt win that league in 14/15.

Finding Lennon's successor must be an issue the board are taking into account as well.
The last 4 appointments (Hendrie from Alloa, Coughlin & Gus from within, Danny from Cowden) have been cheap, fairly risky options.
Who would be the next one? The fact that the transfer window has closed until January might discourage some of the more promising candidates.
-
Chics always right.
Perhaps just speculation but I'd be surprised if he hasn't been in contact with at least one member of the board.
-
Graeme McPherson from the BBC has tweeted that Danny is staying and the board of directors have decide to help him through this difficult time.
In contrast to Chic Young who has just said on the radio that he thinks Lennon will be gone before the Motherwell game.
-
Remember it. Fog was the reason for the abandonment.
Muted celebration when Gillies equalised as most of the crowd couldn't see!

My opinion is that DL will be with us until at least January. The SMFC board will probably not splash out on new management, that is to say that the reason DL is here IMO is that he costs less than Gus...is there another manager out there who costs the same as DL who we would agree has a better chance of taking things forward?...and if we are going to splash out...which I think we should...January is probably the logical time to do so, given that the first questions a new manager is likely to ask are: how much can I spend? and who can I bring in?...
Yes, sounds about right.
He'll mostly likely be given a dozen games or so and the Hearts situation may give him a little more time still. If we're bottom of the league (or even isolated in 11th) at Christmas then that'll be curtains.

Sometimes people and clubs need a change. Lennon, like McPherson, will always be a club legend, but like McPherson, I think his time is up.
The thing about MacPherson was that, when the shit was about to hit the fan, his teams started winning. Did it time and time again which was why when he did eventually go it was between seasons. A MacPherson team would probably have ground out the 1-0 today to get the season rolling. Lennon is just looking a bit lost.
-
I don't think we have a board who will sack a manager in August, perhaps not even in September. The writing looks like it is on the wall though. A wretched start to the season on the back of poor league form before the summer.
For anyone, the prospect of losing your job is horrendous so I feel for Danny. He just can't turn a good squad of players into a consistently good team.
-
Thought the players lacked a wee bit of belief that we could go on and win after equalising. Tentative at times.
Defence will take a bit of time to settle but I think Cornell will be fine actually. McGregor looks like a capable right back as well. Strong midfield, need another option up front.
Will be a tight league again. Early days but yeah Dingwall is actually quite big next week. Need an injection of confidence.

A third of the season gone and it's our 3rd highest points accumulated since our return.
After 13 games:
13/14 - 15 pts
12/13 - 12
11/12 - 16
10/11 - 11
09/10 - 12
08/09 - 12
07/08 - 14
06/07 - 16
In 06/07 we only won another 4 games and nearly went down. In 11/12 we actually only won another 5 but with a lot of draws finished 8th. Would be nice to better that this season.
