  1. I agree with Div about appointing outwith the club. But to my mind we are looking for:

    1. someone to modernize, re-employ sports scientist & psychologist, sort Diets, fitness regimes etc.change training.

    2. will change the philosophy and "scottish" mentality (bin the monster munches)

    3. sign 3 or 4 senior players to augment the academy team he is going to have to play.

4.Sets up the academy in exactly the same mold as the first team.

maybe a foreign coach could do this, but plenty of young scottish coaches are going down this route too. It's been extremely effective at Hearts and has the bonus of being the opposite of Tommy Craig (sacks the sports psychologist because TC has the experience to do without him, then complains that the team lacks confidence).

It's more long term than bounce straight back (I doubt we could do that anyway) but It would be worth it.

  2. If 8th place after several years of bedding down in the SPFL is your idea of ultimate success for St Mirren so be it.

I did emphasize that I was referring to our league performances and not our cup record which is a less reliable performance indicator.

Lennon was not a failure - but he was hardly a success either in the context of the quality and stature of the clubs we were playing against.

Maybe you have to be as old as me to appreciate how little we aspire to these days.

I'm probably older than you, and 8th isn't my idea of "ultimate success" but you quoted every manager since Gus, when in fact the manager after Gus was more successful, if you had said Danny Lennon was the most successful since the eighties I couldn't have argued. but to say "one thing you can't argue about" and then say something that is not only arguable but probably blatantly untrue is just silly.

Sorry have to disagree with you.

Yes there are quite a number who have a similar opinion to the article, but it doesn't make them nodding dogs.

I have been consistent in my criticism of the Board for some time, it just so happens that the article articulates it better than most posters have on this forum.

Danny Lennon ran out of ideas. He made a number of failures in terms of signings and also his tactics were predictable to the point that teams could come to Paisley, pressure us and walk away with 3 points. His departure was on the cards for some time, and whilst almost everyone said he held his head high with dignity they way it was handled, ultimately his record spoke for itself............ he never moved the side on.

We have a record of getting rid of Managers, even after they win us cups!

The teams you mention are also provincial teams, but they are, or at least the majority of them are staying in the SPL this year. Their budget is similar, their record on signings is much better and they haven't a Board that has wanted out for something like 4 to 5 years.

The problem at Saints is at the top and the sickness that is the apathy at the top, has permeated all the way down to the team, who basically aren't good enough, even if they wanted to 'Play for the jerseys'.

Sorry, I think you are wrong.

nobody would want to play for those fcuking jerseys

  4. A few managers have their better moments in charge and even the outstanding managers (such as Ferguson and Wenger) have had times when the fans were calling for their dismissal.

What cannot be argued against at St Mirren is that the club has been badly managed since the time of Gus McPherson by a combination of managers, coaches and the BoD.

Despite the modest aspirations and protestations by some on here, we have never in living memory experienced the level of success in the SPFL enjoyed by those giants of the Scottish game such as Ross County, Inverness Caley, Motherwell, Hamilton Accies, Kilmarnock and St Johnstone.

But at the same time even the likes of the little diddy teams of Sevco, Hearts and Hibs, who currently have dropped down a league (or three), have had better days.

We probably have enjoyed more than our fair share of cup successes but it is not the St Mirren way to have a consistency in the league - ie to finish in the top half.

This is apparently an ambition which is beyond the means of a club from the biggest town in Scotland.

I would argue against this - Lennon got 2 8th place finishes and a national trophy - results that Gus McPherson could only dream about.

  5. Interesting line up, but there's hee haw chance GT will bench Goodwin in a game like this.

What no Jim Goodwin....... are you Mental Mykey...unsure.png

I sort of agree with Mykey.

Don't worry, Goodwin will come on for Mallan for the last 20 mins to stop Motherwell making a comeback thumbup2.gif

  6. We should have offered Danny Lennon a new contract.

We should never have made Tommy Craig manager

We should have had cover for Thommogod

We should have signed a centre half earlier

We should have sacked Tommy Craig earlier

We should not have made Gary Teale manager

We should not have sold Kenny McLean cheaply on the last day of the transfer window

We should have read my posts on the matchday threads and played the team I suggested

We should never, and I mean NEVER wear those fcuking jerseys ever ever ever ever again.

  7. I remember Scotland having 1 place in midfield available and it being between Tony Fitzpatrick, Tommy Burns and Greame Souness to fill it. I was really angry that it went to Souness because I'd never heard of him (I think he played for Middlesburgh in the old 2nd division so no games on the telly) Of course even though I've heard of him now, Fitzy was still better thumbup2.gif
