  1. I am neither a knickerwetter nor a happyclapper, I simply want the best for my club. If Pep, Jose, Vincent etc are available, within our price range, and willing to come to paisley then I'd be chuffed to have them but if we're being realistic we're looking at calderwood, Jeffries, Houston in which case I think we're far better off with Dl & TC.

I like DL, I like the style of football he tries to play, I've criticised him for sacrificing McGowan to give Harkins a free role and for dropping McGinn to play McLean and I still think a return to 4,2,3,1 is required but overall the last couple of seasons have had great highs that should give us fans a more benevolent attitude towards the management team.

    Edited to add COYS

  2. I'm concerned that we are pinning our hopes on a new striker when our lack of results seem to me to be caused by our inability to create from midfield and our inability to protect our back four.

For example, in our cup run last season and particularly the semi and final our midfield 5 set up:

    newton McGinn

    Teale. McGowan. Gonzales

now, in order to accommodate Harkins we are setting up:

    Teale. Newton. McGowan. McLean

    Harkins

This means dropping McGinn although he was our best performing midfielder pre-season, asking McGowan to play deep which has meant none of those short, quick diagonal passes that split defences before, and also offers (sorry Paul), no protection to the back four. It also encourages Harkins to float about which works occasionally in games but leaves gaping holes if we lose possession. Since we have almost the same personnel as before, substituting Goncalves with Harkins, can we please go back to the previous set up.

I would like to sign a backup striker, but moving to 4,4,2 with our current midfield could be disastrous as we'd be likely to line up with:

    Teale. Newton. McGowan. Harkins

And I think we'd lose even more goals as there would be hardly any protection for the back four.

I don't want to see anyone sacked but realistically I reckon Danny has the QOS and Thistle games to keep his job, but I believe he has a better chance if he sorts out what he already has rather than relying on signing a saviour.

  3. I think one of our main problems is trying to give Harkins the freedom to play all where he wants meaning McGowan and Teale in particular have to be much more disciplined and play deeper. Killie wouldn't do that and Harkins spat the dummy, Dundee did fit their team round him but got relegated. I think we need to ask Harkins to play left mid in a 4-2-3-1, replacing Isma from last season's team but keeping that shape, all that said the back four will need to improve dramatically.

  4. I don't get the people who say they don't rate him, how can you judge him on what we saw the other night? He wasn't on for a very long time and, for what it's worth, I was actually quite impressed, didn't have a lot of the ball, but didn't put a foot wrong when he did. Some people are just determined to moan about things.

I said he didn't have a good game, but it was the only time I´d seen him, he was very quick but his use of the ball was poor, obviously his reputation suggests that he just have an off night, but surely nobody would suggest that he was a world beater based on on that performance. I'm not determined to moan about things and I´d assume from his reputation that it would be great to have him, but he wasn't great on Tuesday, that's all I said, based on what's been said about him from people who have seen more of him I'd be delighted to have him, but based on what I've seen of him (20-25mins on Tuesday) he wasn't any better than Reilly.

  5. If we get Richardson on loan from the toon I'd expect Goodwin to play at cornerback and start with.

    Cornell

    DVZ Cheesy. Goodwin. Grainger

    Richardson. McGinn

    Teale. McGowan. Harkins.

    Thommo.

Cover now at GK with Dilo, McGregor, Naismith, Kelly and Barron in defence. Midfield/attack cover in McLean, Yaqub, Brady, and Reilly. The only big problem would be injury or suspension to Thommo as it would be a lot of pressure on Reilly or Brady to lead the line on their own, on the other hand we've all asked for the young ones to be given a chance, so maybe there's no more signings right enough -top six anyone ?

  6. 4,4,2 ? 4,4,1,1 ? 3,5,2 ?

Surely our best formation last season was 4,2,3,1.

    Samson

    DVZ. Cheesy. Goodwin. Summer

    Newton McGinn

    Teale. McGowan. Gonzales

    Thommo

    There for this season

    Cornell

    DVZ. Cheesy. McGregor. Grainger

    Goodwin. McGinn

    Teale. McGowan. Harkins

    Thommo

    Simples

  7. How hellish would it actually be if there were no more signings ? Starting with :-

    Cornell

    DVZ Cheesy McGregor Kelly

    Goodwin McGinn

    Teale McGowan Harkins

    Thommo

We now have cover at GK, central defence, and midfield, Teale is a year older of course but Reilly could come on with half an hour to go in the same position if we're winning or up front with Thommo swapping to a 4-4-2. if we need to score.

I suspect since the squad number 3 hasn't been taken, that we will get at least 1 loan deal, and of course with all due respect to Lovestreet´s sitting tight and bubbling under, but if there weren't any more signings I think we'd survive comfortably albeit in the bottom half of the table.

  8. Going with what we've got so far, and in DL´s favoured 4-2-3-1 we have:

    ???? (Sub: ????)

DVZ Cheesy. Goodwin. Yaqub. (Subs: Barron & Mair)

McGregor. McGin (Subs: McLean & Robertson)

    Teale. McGowan. Harkins. (Sub Guy)

    Thomson (Sub: ????)

From that we need 2 goalkeepers, a left back, an attacking mid, and a striker, more if we successfully jettison Barron, Mair, Robertson & Guy. Still hopeful we can renew loan for Dummet & Newton, Craig Gordon and/or Simonsen but that still leaves plenty space (the Morton & Livingstone players DL was keen on) bearing in mind we could still loose McGinley & McLean it seems we have loads of business to be done so can we not come up with loads more speculation ?

Sorry, I forgot about Thomas Riley, still doesn't seem enough though.

  9. McLean scores goals, unlike pretty much anyone else in our midfield right now, and IMO will out score any midfielder between now and the end of the season.

Yes we need to battle to win games, but we also need quality players that compliment the hard workers,

It may not be popular but based on what else we have currently (excluding Gowser) Kenny would be one of the first names on my teamsheet right now.

The goals we,ve lost through Mclean giving the ball away to the opposition in dangerous areas far outweigh the goals he's scored (though the goals he's scored have been crackers)

  10. I agree that we need a centre half, left back, Midfielder, and striker, but all but the left back could be squad players, I wouldn't mind starting with Mair & McGregor for example. But the glaring shortfall is Left Back again, either Paterson or buchanan or (preferably) both would fit the bill - but are we close?
