  1. Chris Burke?

He's played like every game for Cardiff since he moved down there and they've been in the playoffs twice in two seasons. I'm pretty sure he's not ready to leave that career for a move to St. Mirren....

With Gavin Rae I think there's slightly more of a chance of us being realistically interested, but I'd be really surprised if he came here. If he's coming to Scotland it'll be with Aberdeen.

The Grant Hanley deal is a good shout, I'd thought about it a few times, but haven't really heard much about him other than Levein rates him highly. He's been getting some game time this year too, but they might like to see him go out on loan for experience - and I'd be disappointed if we never made an enquiry. Whether he'd have better options remains to be seen, but I doubt we'd be the most attractive option :(

Pretty sure Chris Burke was released by Cardiff

  2. McGlynn, Dodds, Chisolm, Yogi, Gus, McAdam, Pressley, Butcher, Reid etc. etc. etc.

I can see why they'd want rid of Mutley but if they can't pay compo they're going to struggle to get anyone better.

  3. But thats what DL has done 2 loans, and 4 short term deals?

DL would have been slated if he'd offered 3 yr contracts to all the Cowdenbeath players but I'm sure negotiations will take place before their current deals are up. the loan deals covered positions we couldn't fill (when was the last time we had a left-back?). So I believe we are building a team & I think the current (relatively) higher earners will have to face reduced terms or move on when their contracts are up.

  4. Obviously he did, but what is worrying is (admitadly according to one of the tabloids yesteday) that Danny has already had us bottom for as long as Gus did in his entire time at Saints. I'm not sure which paper it was, it may have been the Star or the Metro, it was left on a train, but their stat wont be far wrong if it is wrong at all.

I stand to be convinced by Danny, before Saturday I thought we were sure things for relegation but we played far better in the second half than I've seen us play under him before, I'm hopeful, but not convinced.

I agree with this post. It's hard to be convinced when you're bottom of the league but I am really hopeful, in each of the games I've seen there have been passages of play that have been really encouraging although ther have also been dissappointing parts as well. I predict we are going to play better football this season than last, but probably still be in a relegation battle (though hopefully a good few points ahead at the split.

I'd rather build a team over a few seasons than get half a dozen loan signings in and then have to start again next season and to be fair to lennon most, if not all, of the poor football this year has come from our SPL experienced players.

Cheer up guys - our time is coming :D:D:D

  5. Gus

+'s = going from near bottom of 1st division to spl, staying in spl, national cup final.

-'s = aging and injury prone signing policy, short termism, not brilliant at PR with fans.

    Danny

+'s = ability to sign players from lower divisions who don't look out of place in spl, good pr with fans.

-'s = three defeats on the trot to teams round about us (arguably though Gus did this more than once too)

    Sir Alex

+'s = there must have been about 25,000 plusses

-'s = there must have been about...............ooops see what I did there

In short go through all of saints past managers and there will be plusses and minuses, surely all we care about is SMFC and wish them all the best at all times. I'd be sad if I thought a saints fan wanted us to crash and burn because the don't like the manager. After all though Gus was sacked he may well have walked (like Jimmy Calderwood) when he was told the budget for this season.
