  1. The reason we won't get such big transfer fees for our young players is that we cling to the fantasy that we have the slightest chance of holding on to them if a big club comes in. Hamilton knew that any player with half decent ability would leave eventually, so it's in their best interests to talk them up from day 1 to try and get a huge pay off when they inevitably leave. We talk our players down in the hope that the good ones might slip under the radar of the bigger clubs, it's not going to happen, their scouting networks are far too good. Make no mistake, all the Championship clubs will already be well aware of any decent young footballers in the SPL. But it's the ones with the huge hype in the media that they'll have to pay through the nose for. McHattie and McGowan from Hearts are prime examples, neither are as good as McGinn but Hearts have been making a big fuss about them since they broke into the first team, that fuss will eventually lead to a big transfer fee. I don't want to lose McGinn, but I'd also hate to think that playing in the SPL for St Mirren was the height of his ambitions, I just want us to be fairly compensated when he does go...

Yeh, that hamilton tactic really got them a much longer run in the SPL than saints have enjoyed????????????

    Wait a minute....

  2. Crawford said he's tried that, but the chippy he got in couldn't get the size/shape ofwood Crawford was after and his attempts at dovetailing Crawford proved frustrating everytime he slipped out.

See that's the problem with a dove-tail. Unless the end that goes in is thicker than the rest it is very prone to slippage. You could be rattling in and out all day and never get a good bonding

Has he thought about a good long screw into a butt-joint?

  3. My neighbour Crawford was toiling in his garden yesterday after B&Q delivered a DIY shed. I asked what the problem was and could i assist.

"Crawford..! you alright fella? are you missing something?"

"well it looks like we may be in for a downpour, so i really need to get felt ASAP"

"can't help you with that Crawford, what about some hands-on assistance?"

he looked at a bent nail on the shed base before replying

"great just let me keel down here to grab my wood and bang one out, if you fancy you could get going with the tongue and groove!"

Tongue & Groove ? I would have thought a spot of dovetailing was more appropriate

  4. I have sympathy for the genuine Hearts supporters .

THEIR club has been royally f**ked over by someone who, previous to his purchase of the club, couldnt have found Tynecastle with a sat nav & pack of tracker dogs !

I hope they survive, i hope they take whatever punishment comes their way with better grace than some of their west coast "cousins" & I hope they & other clubs learn from this debacle.

Scottish football has to accept our place in modern day football,we cannot, should not, pay ridiculous salaries to very ordinary football also rans.

Tracker dogs cant operate sat-navs. Maybe that was his first mistake

  5. Try reviews and you will understand why Kenny.Favourite one I seen was you get what you pay for.Dont let the bed bugs bite etc.Enjoy mate.

The night i stayed, i slept fully clothed sitting up in the chair with the window open to let the weird combination of smells (from the room, not from me) dissipate just a little. it was early December

3 different shades of pubes on the sheets when inspected on arrival. i went down to ask for another room and the night clerk just walked away, laughing and shaking his head

  6. Will be a great adventure - great wee day out - good pubs local to the ground. Passionate home fans - been there a few times with Tranmere.

Saints 2-1 winners van zantan and new Brazilian loan striker sensation

Crowd - disappointing 1500 in sweltering sun!

Football trivia - which football ground is closest to the River Mersey?

Answer -liverpool - no- Everton - no - Tranmere Rovers - no -Stockport county -hell yeah ! Amaze your bozzer mates with your new knowledge

To describe Stockport as a hell-hole is to besmirch the good name of Hell

  7. St Mirren could easily afford to double that budget, and should!

Twenty young guys with something to prove would be worth a lot more than one or two old journeymen pros in the first team.

Smith was deemed good enough to get a game against Kilmarnock, he should have been pushing for the first team this season. 18 isn't really a kid any more in football either. Hope the boy knows what he is doing anyway!

I think you'll find that those with true promise get better offers. For an eighteen year old who has proved nothing it seems to me churlish and short-sighted to turn down the offer to work with some master craftsmen. The one year deal also gave him options, if he made the grade and attracted another club then he could have walked for minimal compensation. Like his dad, too thick to see the big picture

  8. Is it not a bit of a waste of time to bringing these young guys through and then them buggering off to Dumbarton because we offer absurdly low wages?

You know for sure that this is the whole story? Maybe he's been given a low offer as a hint that he should look elsewhere.

I'd like to think that regular first team football at Dumbarton should pay more than youth football or bench warming at St Mirren.

Some of the boys are worth keeping, this one evidently is, but only at a very low price. I'll trust the management on this

  9. seems everyone is looking for a slice of the action

best not to get a cob on but It’s hard not to get upset though, it’s just another batch of injustices. There is plain evidence that the industry is going down the pan

Who gets the profit? I suspect the bakers will baguette. But there will be a few crumbs for the supermarkets.

I think that i am the yeast qualified to comment though as i tend to indulge in floury language

Time for lunch, i may snack but am thinking of having a whole meal

  10. Morality of the sick bag , call it what you like, sometimes the reality of life is as we see day in day out , indeed just a bag sick. You cannot deny it , sad , but true, ask most folk in any walk of life, they'll have a tale or two.

Oops, you are not a cave dweller with no neighbours , right , just checking , no offence....no Ivory Tower ?

I have no doubt whatsoever that in some cases self interest and a few coin is most certainly the motivation, that is unquestionable ...................pop down to court most days you'll see / hear some seriously morally corrupt and financially motivated shenanigans and the what's in it for me mindset most certainly plays a part. I am not saying for one minute all cases of this distasteful nature are all about the lucre, but I'll bet you ( heh heh ) a lot are. Equally there are surely horrendous tales of abuse and innocence lost , that too is undeniable and the tragedy is it will continue, always has and always will. I hope that's not too uncomfortable an observation for you.

Surely you are not so naive or aherm ' moronic' as you so poetically put it, to dismiss my expressed opinion as irrelevant , surely you have more about you than to fail to realise that these cases are a minefield and that there are occasions as has been seen with Yewtree currently that there is a bandwagon effect. This is ironically created in no small way by the people engaged in exercising everyone's rights under law. I'm sure you understand that...................

Ok , so according to you I'm just a sicko, I have no moral fibre, I'm a rotten member of society because I express a contrary or objectionable opinion to you, well, thanks. If only I could be as righteous and good as you then........must be great. You know there is a name for the kind of intolerance you expressed to me on my legitimate view / and or of the views of others.................go figure ohmy.png

Anyway , all cases on their merits , for sure civil rights and all that, undeniable and absolutely, so what's the problem. I'm only expressing my opinion, it is after all as you so nicely put it , my moronic civil right to do so after all.

Jist sayin like flowers.gif .................night night , don't let the bed bugs bite ..........and that is not a euphemism

If this makes you comfortable then fine. you are missing the point so badly there is little point in carrying on

  11. I don't know why I said 99%. I should probably have said 100%. I don't want to ask questions about anyone's sex life but sexual intercourse normally takes place when the couple are alone. OK, we've all heard of gang bangs and unfortunately there are cases where several men rape the same girl in the space of just a few minutes, bastards that they are. I never said that there is no evidence connected with a rape but if Roache goes to trial I'm willing to bet there will be no evidence from an alleged rape that was unreported for 46 years.

You wrote- 'To say that this is all one person's word against another is warped, a distortion of the facts.' How do you know? Have you got insider information? Apart from the virtually never a witness fact, which I stand by, I think you're overlooking too the fact that in many rape cases the fact that sexual intercourse took place is not denied. It comes down to whether or not it was consensual . So yes, in many cases it does boil down to one person's word against another's.

Look, what I've said about witnesses and consent isn't contentious. Those matters have plagued rape cases and caused the legal profession headaches for donkey's years. I have a friend, retired now, who was a partner in one of the biggest players in Glasgow in the legal aid side and he was required to defend guys on many occasions who were accused of rape. Sometimes he knew bloody rightly they were guilty, sometimes he was convinced they were innocent but as often as not he didn't have a baldy. They are very, very difficult cases.

In yesterday's Daily Mail, Peter McKay published a piece under the heading 'Hall's haul'. If I knew how to post it I would do so. Maybe someone else can. Until the Saville business broke and it became apparent that his estate could be pursued, this was never heard of. There is a compensation culture in the UK.

I won't respond to anything else you say to me about this matter. I'm not defending or implying mitigation for rapists. I'm defending the right to a fair trial. The courts will have to make a stance on this publicity business.

Daily Mail reader-that explains everything. if you'd told me that in the first place i wouldnt have wasted any time on it

  12. Right, let's get this done with. At least you had the honesty to admit you were wrong about whether I ignore somner9.

Look up the CPS Policy For Prosecution Of Rape Cases. I refer you to the section on evidence where it states quite categorically :- Rape normally takes place in a private setting where the victim is the only witness. Think about it for a minute and possibly it will sink in. Witnesses and even evidence have always been a big problem in rape cases. DNA has changed all that and thankfully more of the despicable low-lives who commit this hellish crime are being caught. Not enough, but more.

William Roache has been charged with a rape going back 46 years. DNA evidence wasn't around then and in fact in this case it would have been immaterial because it seems nothing was reported at the time. We won't know until it comes to court if it gets that far.

Where's my warped view? We were discussing anonymity, not rape as such. Some posters have decided Roache is guilty already. Barristers acting for Roache can probably ask already if he can expect a fair trial. Potential jurors will be asked if they have read any of the publicity. How could they not have?

If Roache is found guilty, then I will say the same about him as I did about Stuart Hall. May he rot in hell. But I'm not going to pre-judge him. Let the courts decide.

You quoted a percentage, how did you arrive at that? Does your scrutiny of case notes back up the notion (I'll be generous and call it a notion) that the only evidence in historic cases is the statement of the complainant and the accused? perhaps there are other sources of evidence that place 2 people in the same place at the same time, confirm the ages of people, statements of 3rd parties who may have witnessed certain things immediately before or after the alleged attack, description of distinguishing marks not normally visible, medical examinations that might suggest violence. Maybe these are offered in a host of cases, including the recent high-profile ones.

to suggest that this is all one person's word against another is warped, a distortion of the facts, as is the suggestion that the bulk of these recent high-profile cases are motivated by money. some of these people may have been very seriously wronged and are only just finding a voice. better we should listen, no matter how uncomfortable that might be, before making knee-jerk judgements.

  13. At some point people have got to be responsible for taking care of themselves, at that age I reckon most people should be able to say no. I accept there are grey areas around this issue but that's my opinion and I'm comfortable with it.

atrocious point of view, which explains why so many victims still feel unable to come forward

  14. Well at least we know now we can abolish courts and do away with criminal lawers. if the Old Bill say you're guilty, that's it. That will save a right few bob. What evidence do the police have? Certainly not DNA. The trouble in alleged rape cases is that in 99% of them there are no witnesses and it boils down to one persons word against anothers. After 46 years what evidence can they have? I don't always like judicial decisions and the old adage about the law being an ass quite often seems strangely apposite but we still haven't, thankfully, reached the stage where the likes of you can be judge and jury all rolled into one when you know f**k all about the case. But you carry on your rant. As if we could talk you out of it.

thought you had him on ignore? Sorry, how silly of me. that would have been the dangerous path of taking you at your word

and the section in bold, you have evidence of this? Have you made a study and compiled evidence ?(you know, like they do in a court)

or are you just another puffed-up opinion-monger looking to portray their warped view as common sense?
