  1. Right, let's get this done with. At least you had the honesty to admit you were wrong about whether I ignore somner9.

Look up the CPS Policy For Prosecution Of Rape Cases. I refer you to the section on evidence where it states quite categorically :- Rape normally takes place in a private setting where the victim is the only witness. Think about it for a minute and possibly it will sink in. Witnesses and even evidence have always been a big problem in rape cases. DNA has changed all that and thankfully more of the despicable low-lives who commit this hellish crime are being caught. Not enough, but more.

William Roache has been charged with a rape going back 46 years. DNA evidence wasn't around then and in fact in this case it would have been immaterial because it seems nothing was reported at the time. We won't know until it comes to court if it gets that far.

Where's my warped view? We were discussing anonymity, not rape as such. Some posters have decided Roache is guilty already. Barristers acting for Roache can probably ask already if he can expect a fair trial. Potential jurors will be asked if they have read any of the publicity. How could they not have?

If Roache is found guilty, then I will say the same about him as I did about Stuart Hall. May he rot in hell. But I'm not going to pre-judge him. Let the courts decide.

You quoted a percentage, how did you arrive at that? Does your scrutiny of case notes back up the notion (I'll be generous and call it a notion) that the only evidence in historic cases is the statement of the complainant and the accused? perhaps there are other sources of evidence that place 2 people in the same place at the same time, confirm the ages of people, statements of 3rd parties who may have witnessed certain things immediately before or after the alleged attack, description of distinguishing marks not normally visible, medical examinations that might suggest violence. Maybe these are offered in a host of cases, including the recent high-profile ones.

to suggest that this is all one person's word against another is warped, a distortion of the facts, as is the suggestion that the bulk of these recent high-profile cases are motivated by money. some of these people may have been very seriously wronged and are only just finding a voice. better we should listen, no matter how uncomfortable that might be, before making knee-jerk judgements.

  2. At some point people have got to be responsible for taking care of themselves, at that age I reckon most people should be able to say no. I accept there are grey areas around this issue but that's my opinion and I'm comfortable with it.

atrocious point of view, which explains why so many victims still feel unable to come forward

  3. Well at least we know now we can abolish courts and do away with criminal lawers. if the Old Bill say you're guilty, that's it. That will save a right few bob. What evidence do the police have? Certainly not DNA. The trouble in alleged rape cases is that in 99% of them there are no witnesses and it boils down to one persons word against anothers. After 46 years what evidence can they have? I don't always like judicial decisions and the old adage about the law being an ass quite often seems strangely apposite but we still haven't, thankfully, reached the stage where the likes of you can be judge and jury all rolled into one when you know f**k all about the case. But you carry on your rant. As if we could talk you out of it.

thought you had him on ignore? Sorry, how silly of me. that would have been the dangerous path of taking you at your word

and the section in bold, you have evidence of this? Have you made a study and compiled evidence ?(you know, like they do in a court)

or are you just another puffed-up opinion-monger looking to portray their warped view as common sense?

  4. Ocht it's a sign of the times in my opinion.....

Was the accused a self obsessed, boorish bully and alleged rapist, is the alleged victim 'at it'. From what I can observe it seems to me these accusations decades later can often be a result of the ever expanding litigious culture , so prevalent today. Do some miscreants think about a pension plan top up , are they the genuine and innocent victim of abuse , or maybe a calculating fibbing fantasist.....................we'll never know , that's the sad and only likely outcome...........it's truly a grim reflection of today's society, that we now are even contemplating these issues.

I blame Thatcher , no it was banning the belt , no the swinging sixties , no it was National Service abolition, erm naw, it was all about the Bosman ruling, it's the European court of do what you like's fault .....................lol

to infer that people are coming forward with allegations purely to line their pockets marks you out as having the moral fibre of a bag of sick. i'd doubt that you have any evidence to back up that statement other than opinion. it's a sad reflection of our society that people see fit to portray opinion as fact.

you seem to be a person who thinks the problem with civil rights is that other people exercise them

the rest of your post makes no sense, marking you out as a moron

  5. The amounts of money that Tesco will have spent on the land, consultants fees and so forth is unbelievable. Probably over £20million?

    Unbelievable.

a prominent business and employment lawyer recently confirmed to me my suspicion that big businesses make money despite their senior management team rather than because of them. Tesco are also in trouble over a store they have actually started building in dunfermline which is sidelined for a full year pending a re-assessment.

Thone massive land-bank is starting to look like a liability as it's value is now under scrutiny-could we be seeing a reckoning for Tesco?

  6. Any money the club has should go to on park activities as next season is going to be very hard. There will also be a playoff position. Clubs will be making their squads stronger so not to fall into the last two positions so nest season will be D.I.F.I.C.U.L.T. A piss up room should be put on hold the manager needs to bring in new players who can hopefully do a job. I fear next season we will go down.

i liked this, simply because you took the time to spell out a word that you spelled wrongly

  7. the street has yet another surprise extended holiday in the offing, i presume.

They'll be hiring extra editors to remove the footage of all of the alleged miscreants.

Wonder what the next revelation will be, My money is on a child-eating scandal involving the meerkats

  8. I love this thread - I've got man shed envy - I bit the bullet a few years ago and replaced my dilapidated 8x6 shed and replaced it with a lush 10x8 summer house.

I added a 12 x 9 patio area (west facing) for evening sun.

Biting bullets? a bit of a change from biting the pillow, but do go on

  9. Running power for some lighting (inc. mood lighting for those more contemplative moments/self interference) and the beer fridge and general power tool use. I don't want too many tools hanging about, so most of my mates won't be invited roundwhistling.gif

I intend having a workshop section and a lounge area. I'm on the lookout for a couple of suitably fatigued leather chairs or similar, so won't be unduly concerned if the beasties secure ingress. In saying that, i intend to go nuts with the silicon gun and have considered a spot of insulation. The cladding is 19mm thick, so quite heavy duty, but there will inevitably be a few joints needing smoked filled to prevent water and wind getting in.

I'll take a snap of the foundation and post it later. It needs a bit of tidying up, and the forming removed but is suitably utilitarian for its purpose.

if you get bother from the beasties then you could tray laying a few bait-traps

  10. i've had a good root around that downy area between the small hillocks round the back, but have possibly overdone it. It's a bit of a soggy mess now and i couldn't possibly think of sitting on it for the next few days

Leaving the garden alone will mean i'll most likely have to satisfy myself with a tramp in the countryside until things start to look better round my end

  11. Mods!!!!

I am deeply concerned with the insidious creep of blatant Diy/Building posts thrusting their erections down our throats as we gardeners; on our hands and knees are forced to swallow against our will the load, of builders across our town and county.

If the boot was on the other foot and we reached round the backway into a building thread, driving our posts home against unwilling, frightened, tense builder types. Who seem intent to ignore advice and the principles of gardening up a steep incline to always lubricate the shaft of your rake so it glides easily to and fro eliminating unecessary friction between us!

In summary if the builders want hardcore? we'll be only too happy to go along with a dry-mix.

at this time of year, i tend to frequent the the undergrowth hoping to come across some young buds, I'm expecting to catch some fresh shoots very soon.

It's been a bit dry around my patch recently, maybe if i were to give it a bit of a spray i might see more coming through

  12. Well I think this wins the award for most depressing thread of the year.

How do you find time in your day to pollute it with endless hours of shit like this?

In between poetry readings, coffee evenings, model ship building, knitting and looking at Britney Spears on the internet I simply don't have the time or the energy to watch any of your suggestions.

Good question, when you consider the amount of time he spends polluting this forum

  13. I totally agree with you.

I've never understood why some Saints fans have referred to Ibrox Stadium as Greyskull. As well as the valid point you've mentioned about Greyskull being the home of the "good guys", Greyskull actually looks green as well. Sometimes I've thought perhaps Saints fans called Ibrox Stadium "Greyskull" because it looked green in some strange form of irony but I never quite got it. Surely if any stadium looks like Greyskull castle with the huge green stands it would be Celtic Park? Again, though, they aren't good guys either and not fit enough to live in He-Man's Castle.

    E.T.A.

I've just clicked on your link to Wikipedia and I now see that it's all Kirsty McCabe's fault. mad.gif

"Snake Mountain" is ever more appropriate anyway.

  14. the man let us down, he sank to their level. He had no right to expect that kayal could or would do anything about palestine. similarly, he had no right to expect that his protest would be heard beyond the dozen or so people around him.

maybe he takes any and every opportunity to berate israelis by picketing embassies and businesses, i dont know. if he is so passionate then it is a wonderful thing for him that he has been arrested and has gained publicity for his heartfelt cause. He is now a political prisoner and a martyr, just like the celtic heroes.

But just maybe he was a daft (and by this example nasty) person who used the plight of thousands of people to get at a celtic player-that is actually quite obnoxious
