  1. there is no-one out there who is better, available and affordable for SMFC

I'd love it if he could put us in a position where we have 2 games left and require only 1 or 2 points to avoid the play-off and then offered to resign on his own terms, testing the bottle of the board, those who have undermined him and those who have called for his head from day one.

  2. I worked with the guy and his son many years ago for Ailsa ,he is self made borrowed money to buy his first Lorry and worked like hell.

Is it true that he is a dyed-in-the-wool rangers fan? I heard as much a couple of years ago and in my water board days 15 years ago, the guys on the sewage works used to refer to them as "Billy Boy" tankers.

Is he not also Gers fan George Bowie's dad

  3. I'm not interested in what he does either - if he likes a bit of kinky sex, votes Tory, or actually likes any of the post-OK Computer Radiohead albums.

It's his call. This isn't what Magennis does to wind down after a game, or if he likes a pint with his pals. Contracted to Aberdeen or not, he is turning out for St Mirren FC. We are in soapy bubble, him and his team-mates imploded big time only 24 hours ago, our manager is under pressure. I do not want to see our loanees acting the Billy big-baws in such circumstances.

As I said, why not sit in the stand. Show a bit of respect. I genuinely believe Magennis had no need to go bouncing around on the pitch, played in an earlier round or not.

acting billy big baws or just enjoying himself with his mates? if aberdeen invited him as part of the official party then that is a nice thing to do and i dont blame him for living it up

Maybe a good day out and a wee diversion will make him relax and be more effective for saints

  4. Danny - Thankyou very much for giving me one of the most amazing days of my life a year ago.

Thankyou for being a thoroughly decent personable man and taking the time to chat with me and sign stuff for my wee lad after the Stockport game pre season .

But Danny - please do the decent thing - your ability to motivate and inspire our team and your tactical shortcomings have been laid bare - I have no personal axe to grind with you as a human but with the grace of god get your coat off the shoogly peg and get tae fxxk

Poor show, venomos thoughts couched in weasel words

  5. A LOT of people were on here at half time praising Lennon and slating those who dared to criticise him. Can I presume they accept he is equally to blame for the 2nd half and this latest debacle?

What did he change at half time to make the difference-it's a serious question. i've been out all day and only logged on 10- minutes ago

  6. I'll keep this short and to the point as I'm not interested in entering into any more debate resulting in name calling etc.

I agree with a substantial amount of what's written at the link, especially on the likely first step of attempting to negotiate via an intergovernmental conference (a European Summit). And I also agree on the impracticality of Scottish citizens being removed as EU citizens, however there is still one definite flaw; that the other Member States CANNOT be forced to agree to treaty amendments and associated increases in Commissioners, Ministers etc.

In short, although it would be impractical to have EU citizenship removed from existing citizens, it would be ILLEGAL to enforce a treaty change if any Member State opposed the negotiations either before or during the process. In that circumstance, and again I am not saying it would happen, hopefully things would not get messy like that, it would HAVE to be a phased withdrawal (likely on the same terms as a Member State voluntarily leaving i.e. a 2-3 year withdrawal process on negotiated terms) pending re-entry, we cannot illegally force our way into a democratic union. AGAIN - I am not saying we would fail in our negotiations, it is a worst case scenario, but a real one that has not been mentioned at the link and should have been to give the full story and not a partial picture. I would debate and defend this point with any EU expert in the world, I am that confident in the accuracy of this point.

Aside from that, whilst I would change some of the terminology (and actually some of the informal wording used i.e. 'hardly'), I agree with most of the actual substance in terms of the likely procedures and timings etc. If you look back on the thread, I said pretty much the same thing about carefully planning the timing of negotiations and accession etc so as to allow a seemless transition as that would avoid many problems.

I love your hystrical reaction, how many times are you going to post with the caveat that you are not interested in debate?

I'll jog your memory, you answered a serious and sincere question that i put to you with a rant about people being stupid and gullible and inferrd that i had an entrenched view, which is bollocks, i was genuinely interested in the rationale behind your statement as it challenged my understanding. when you responded to my question in such a hysterical, insulting and self-important way, did you really expect me not to react? It's a bit much to constantly express these feelings when you only reaped what you sowed.

  7. There goes the last honest politician. Enjoy your new life Tony and give that Maggie what for - she has had it too easy on the other side.

    1. There are no honest politicians,

    2. if he was such a politician then he wont be anywhere near thatcher.

he certainly had the courage of his convictions but like any politician I am sure that he subscribed to the "end justifies the means" philosophy. The problem with all politicians is that they all thnk they know what is best for the rest of us and even if their politics is tempered by some early humane or social values, these are all diluted as they engage in the wheeling and dealing that is needed to get on.

  8. To be fair to REA - he is now working on the council of Supporters Direct http://www.supporters-direct.org/homepage/aboutsupportersdirect/governan/councils/scotland

Here is a good picture of him wearing a Saints scarf - rather ironic that when he became Commercial Director and was to stock the shop he could not understand why football fans would want to wear a scarf in August.

REA would be the first to admit he made a lot of mistakes along the way with 10000Hours - however I'm sure it was a great learning experience for him and will no doubt help take control of some other fans club.

    fixed it

  9. OK, inspired by the West Highland Way thread... Get em' in. Not ncessarily the big famous attractions, but even if it's a wee coffee shop that you thought had good home made scones or anything! The shared information on any subject in this forum is normally top drawer from good Buddies. At the very least it could give us some ideas to get in the good books with the missus' by saying 'Mon' and we'll go a wee run to......'

...Culross, Fife. Just turn right over the original Kincardine Bridge and follow the signs. Park in the waterfront car park at the village entrance. Walk along the railway line and go through the swing gate to the old pier. Take your camera for a great photo opp' looking right down the pier as it disappears into the Forth estuary. Go into the village and see the peach coloured 'palace' building with super gardens behind it. There's a really good coffee shop and pottery gift shop nearby, and the Red Lion pub is good too. Walk up the steep cobbled streets to the Abbey for more good photos.

Agreed, great wee pub lunch at the Lion with a decent selection of beers and interesting artwork on the roof beams and especially on the ceiling of the gents. You need to book at week-ends. the lime-kilns at nearby Limekilns are also worh a look around.

South Queensferry. Simply park up and walk along the front until you get under the Forth Road Bridge. Totally different views of the bridges all the way along.

The Hawes inn is a good stopping point, mentioned in the novel "Kidnapped"

Bearsden Cross. A square of excellent tearooms, shops and restaurants, with the Roman Bath House ruins only a two minute walk away.

The Wee Blether tea room, past Aberfoyle. Drive through Aberfoyle past the primary school and head for the McDonald Forest Hills Hotel. Twisty road with super scenery to your left on the loch. Drive up the hill to the hotel car park - the hotel gardens are beautiful and there's paths with waterfalls and a pond. I could create the world's greatest Par 3 in those grounds given the chance. Tee off at the hotel hitting down to a green nestled in the trees beside the pond... But anyway.... Walk down to the watersports place opposite hotel and turn right. Walk for 15 mins to the Wee Blether tearoom for home made cakes, sandwiches, burgers, the works. Make sure it's a good weather day and take a camera!

Tourist route to Perth. Don't batter up the A9 all the time. Follow the big brown tourist route signs and cut off to your left instead. Stop in Muthill at another one of my favourite coffee stops. Can't remember the name of it at the moment, it's on the straight bit of road just before leaving the village. Visit the old ruined church.

If you divert before cCieff, go past the famous grouse distillery (which is also a good wee visit) up the waterworks road to Loch Turret, which is usually completey uninhabited, bar the sheep and coos. Lovely lochside walks and the occasional eerie feeling of isolation

That'll do for starters. Will try and link to some photos later tonight.

  10. Another decent fee we'll miss out on. McLean is just added to the list of players such as Lappin, Broadfoot and McGinn.

I'd say 370k is pretty decent, we could have kept him for an extra year only to see him get yet another medium term injury that could half or wipe out his value. Worse still he could go to a competitor for butons.

I'd prefer to keep the player but at least we wil get some dosh and a bit of leeway in the budget next season.

  11. Bahoken and Djemba both out injured, one already back in France. That in itself sums up the incompetence of Lennon. He has a nerve saying McLean should be playing at a higher level, well it wouldnt be hard when you are a point off second bottom !

The more one hears from Lennon the more it makes my blood boil.

I thought that Frogs were cold-blooded

  12. "They", "their"...?

Is that a good way to describe the majority of fellow-Scots who will likely vote NO? unsure.png

Ye can see how Civil Wars start...

    Okay, I'll rephrase

maybe Dicko and Bluto will do a deal to keep a nuclear base on scottish soil

  13. The more likely outcome for Faslane , is that the area will be annexed much like the Sovereign bases in say , Cyprus. This does many things for allowing the Imperialist English elite keep the belief that they are still an imperialist ,super power , able to challenge / take on any other nation they feel like. .

Maybe they will trade a currency union or an agreement on cross-border financial transactions for their base then. Maybe both, plus a few others. that would be nice.

  14. No, it is legally speaking an executive, it's not bold at all.

I highlighted some of your post in bold

It doesn't fulfill the criteria normally associated with a Government.

Then please refer me to the place where these criteria are set down. When you write "associated" it's quite a weak term. the point is that the majority of people who live here, who work for the government and serve in it consider it as a level of government, applying our own criteria, which i am willing to guess are just as valid as any other.

And yes, whilst those other issues could be relevant (environment etc.) it's a well established and decided area that when balancing disclosure with competing interests, if national security or defence is one of the areas for consideration then it takes priority.

It's not about what the MOD were compelled to do, it is about what would have been healthy, respectful and possible. In any case, as someone affected by MOD actions just now I can vouch that they are liable to confer their own interpretation on any agreement or duty as they see fit

Honestly - and this isn't a dig at you - it's a dig at the whole independence issue. I am personally growing increasingly tired of the 'tit-for-tat' approach, and utter partisanship of both sides of the debate. According to each side, theirs is the best approach (independence or keeping the union) in EVERY SINGLE area. What a load of utter crap. There will be pros and cons in both sides. Yet those involved in the politics, and indeed a great many on here are ether gullible or idiotic (if they truly believe such polarisation in favour or against any one side).

well maybe you should have a lie down, that massive legal brain must be a huge drain on the rest of your body. This part is very disresectful to those debating the pointson here. Just because you are being questioned doesnt mean we are trying to undermine or discredit your point. Only a very few take a dogmatic view of things and even those that express such a view don't really buy all of it-they are working to the party line, so to speak. the rest of us are trying to think our way through to a decision. If you dont like the debate so far then i haveto say, you are not doing a lot to advance with this kind of rant. the very fact that Bluto liked your post shows that it was pompous and superior). i had legal lecturers in my course at Paisley/WOS and i am glad that they didnt have your attitude (not that they were that great anyway)

I try to bring some legal accuracy to the debate whenever any of those issues come up, regardless of which side it suits, but it seems that (including on here) very few are ever willing to accept that maybe not every area suits their own view.

you put you own interpretation in there, just shows how widespread opinion and interpretation are in the legal world. It pains me to say I am with Drew on this one.

    It's quite sad really.

    Boo-Hoo

  15. This is a very simple issue - defence is a matter reserved to Westminster. Clearly the leaked issue was linked to this and therefore the Scottish Executive had no legitimate expectation to be alerted to the issue. This is where it becomes a problem when the term 'Government' is used as a brand name. Post-independence we would / will have a real government; until / if that time comes, we have an executive that has been incorrectly labeled as a 'Government'. This issue is a complete no win for those saying that the Executive should have been notified - the law is and always has been VERY clear on this issue.

The bit in bold, surely an executive would be a group of appointees rather than an elected group. if a council is considered local government then the properly named Scottish Government surely fill the criteria of regional or national government.

I'm afraid you are being a bit selective here in labelling it a defence issue. This could also be construed as an environmental issue or as a potential health issue. it also has potential crossover into other areas. as such the radiocative contamination should most certainly have been communicated to the SG, by SEPA if by no-one else.

  16. The annual accounts include the depreciation of the assets (stadium, pitch equipiment, etc) which will help explain the large "losses".

At some stage the stadium will require maintenance and equipment will need to be replaced and St Mirren need to start to build a fund to take care of that. My view is that our wages-turnover ratio is too high. We are not earning enough prize money from the league positions.

IIRC at the AGM SG said that after all the player bonuses and expenses had been paid the club only made around £100K from the League Cup win.

Either the players wages & bonuses are too high - or the hotel accomodation & bar bill at the Glynhill for the club staff after the final was excessive!

the bit in bold raises some questions for me, if the bonuses were really high then that certainly helps explain why some players were in indifferent form for league games but were throrougly fired up for the cup run.

there is also the issue of expenses, did we spend big on things like a training camp, sports psychologists, fitness experts, etc? again, this might help explain the difference between league and cup form.

I think it would be good to have a proper review of season 2012/13 to see what the difference is between a high-performing team and a team of also rans that just so happens to be the same bunch of people. that is the sort of thing that will help us move forward as a club.

intersting that danny questioned why the team can have a successful spell and then fail to kick on with any great passion, commitment or even belief until such times as the shit really hits the fan or we stumble our way into a cup-contender situation. can it be that everyone at the club buys in to the image of a maverick bunch who flit between extreme highs and perilous lows? The top leadership at the club may be resting on their league cup laurels, did they rest on the success of promotion and the deal to sell Love st for a while. i actually enjoyed Gus's promotion team immensely, which was followed by us starting well and staying in the top quarter of the SPL for a while before some sort of bubble burst and we free-fell to the bottom 2 or 3 very rapidly. Why did the bubble burst then, just as it has this season? If we dont suss that one out then we will continue to bobble up and down whoever the manager is

  17. clubs like Kilie, st j and falkirk, are similar or smaller than us in terms of catchment area, but they actually have the potential to be biggerbecuase they are not so close to the ugly sisters in geographical terms

the worrying thing for me is that we had a bounce in the 70s as renagers went into a bit of a slump, but we are seeing no such bounce just now even though crowds at parkhead and ibrox are much diminished

i think that the problem may well be Paisley losing some of it's individuality and identity in the last decades. Many people go to glasgow for work, their shopping, restauarants, nights out, theatres, clubbing, etc and dont identify with Paisley a s a town in it's own right even if it is the place they live in

I think the re-definiton of the west of scotland conurbation over the last 40 years has taken the heart out of many of the once-proud burghs and that has affected thesize of our club. 30 years ago we were high up in the second tier, now we are low-middling in the third tier in terms of overall size/importance.
