Keanu Returns Baccus To Us At The Buddies

Keanu Returns Baccus To Us At The Buddies

After a dull and boring summer break for those football fans who have little to no interest in internationals or glorified friendly competitions that are just designed give even greater riches to clubs that already benefit from greater revenues, the return of real domestic Scottish Premiership action was welcomed by all St Mirren fans.

With two games played so far in the league campaign, but only one point returned, naturally Buddies fans would have hoped for better but opening up the 2025/26 season with an away trip to reigning Champions Celtic was always going to be a tough ask - and a 1-0 defeat at the Celtic Park should not be sniffed at, particularly given the manner of our play and they only broke us down right at the death and for fans who like a flutter, with that bitter pill to swallow, they would have certainly preferred to distract themselves post game with bitcoin casino promotions and a completely different way of online gaming that took them away from football entirely.

With so many new arrivals during the summer transfer window, allied with a similar number of departures, it was always going to take a little bit more time than pre season allowed for 50 year old gaffer Stephen Robinson to get the side performing at their best, and it should be noted that it appears that our summer wheeling and dealing is not over yet as just 48 hours ago Keanu Baccus became our latest arrival as the 27 year old Australian international returned to Paisley after his 12 months away and his mini adventure in England's League One with Mansfield.

Having arrived at the club back in the summer of 2022, he went on to make 54 starting appearances for us prior to his departure last summer as a free agent. He went on to make 34 starts for Mansfield, but their manager Nigel Clough explained that there were a number of reasons as to why he had returned to us so quickly, and they agreed to sanction the move.

The 59 year old former England international and son of legendary Brian, cited 'personal and family reasons' for his return to Scotland, adding that we were quickly the favoured option given the fact that 'with the World Cup taking place next year' Baccus was focused on game time to give himself the best chance possible of making their squad, and obviously already knowing the club well, it simply meant it worked best for all parties here and having done so well for them in the 2024/25 campaign, the player now leaves with their best wishes and their thanks.

The industrious midfielder makes his return to the club having already made history during his first spell as becoming the first ever Saints player to feature at a FIFA World Cup, and he was obviously signed and registered with visa approval in time to make his second full club debut in our scoreless draw with Motherwell at the SMISA Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

He has signed a new deal taking him up until the summer of 2027 but we also hold a further years option on him should we wish to enact it. With a decent club record already for his first spell, there is absolutely no reason to doubt that we will benefit from his services even more in the years to come.
