Over the last few season St Mirren have slowly, but steadily, pushed on both on and off the football pitch and fans of The Buddies were certainly hopeful that this upward trend would continue under manager Stephen Robinson, but sadly for us the domestic 2025/26 Scottish Premiership campaign has turned into quite a disappointing one.
Fans more than understand the realities facing the club, particularly from a financial footing point of view, but being 29 games into the season with March and the business end of the year now here, being sat in tenth place in the table with only five wins and 24 points on the board is severely disappointing given the more recent highs that we have had as some league finishes had felt like we had found the best Solana casino out there and not only enjoyed the gaming experience available, but walked away with a big jackpot to boot.
Incredibly poor form in the last five matches taking us to 15 defeats for the season has been very sobering, but whilst some fans are naturally looking behind us, the buffer we have should see us safe as we cast eyes towards the coming 2026/27 battle.
Whilst it has been a disappointing league campaign, it has been a decent year in the domestic Cups and we surprised plenty by taking a 3-1 victory over Celtic in the League Cup Final at Hampden Park back in mid December and we will be hoping to enjoy the same kind of journey in this years' Scottish Cup.
On Sunday, we welcome Partick Thistle to The SMISA Stadium for the quarter final clash and given the Cup confidence that we will have, optimism should be high of achieving another positive result. The ever confident Robinson is convinced of that, albeit he rightly concedes that it will be another tough game for us this year but he felt that the home faithful could make all the difference to the team over the course of 90 minutes.
With another trip to Hampden being the prize on offer, turning around our recent league form with a comprehensive and solid victory here could be the exact tonic we need to now end the season in good confidence and with a good run of form. Robinson knows that we have shown that we can do just that previously, and despite the financial constraints that we operate under, and he has called on the team to pull together and for the crowd to rally right behind them.
A good win here, with players returning from their own knocks, niggles and injuries, would set us up very nicely indeed for a good run to the end of the season now and with Cup success already behind us, there should be both on and off pitch benefits from that as we look to kick on again next year.
Although the injury situation is slightly easing, this weekend we will continue to be without Mikael Mandron with his six week shoulder injury, and Conor McMenamin, Malik Dijksteel and Jonah Ayunga will also continue to be missing and on the sidelines for this one.
