I think the Tories are going to be in power for many, many years to come.

This will die down and after months and months of nothing but covid in the news, people will be sick and tired of it.

Then it will be on to Brexit and covid will be forgotten about.

If Labour DO get in, they'll be blamed for any economic problems and they'll be back out for another generation.

Starmer has a difficult job here.

No shit Sherlock. Wow. Amazing analysis there.

Indeed, more choice and convenient as they are easy to get to and seen as a wee day out.

We, in Arbroath, suffer from similar issues.

Locally there is more than a decent choice but people still prefer to travel to Dundee.

There are also some local practices that are a pain, closing for a whole day or half a day, traditional ideas that, IMO, have no place in modern shopping needs.

Wasn't Tuesday traditional a half day in Paisley many years ago?

Saturdays are the most common days for St Mirren to play their matches and there is free parking available around the ground. Thought you should know in case you ever think of attending a game.

What on earth would you know about being the brightest guy in any room?

Branson is not someone you want to be using as an example of an ethical or successful businessman. There's a reason why someone like that surrounds themselves with clever people. He's not smart enough to have done any of it himself. His talent is charisma and he uses it to prise money out of the hands of investors and to entice good people to work for him. Without either, he'd be just another dreamer.

Clearly a lot more than you. Again your limitations are exposed. I already said that he would not be my favourite. But.. He comes a cross well in the media, works the levers of capitalism well and has made a considerable fortune. Rightly or wrongly, he attributes his success to being good at choosing those he works with. As is your want you interpret the "smarter/cleverer/ brighter than you" part to mean only one thing.. IQ. Whilst still valid on that basis alone, there are many other intelligences. In short.. Your limitations are showing again. He on the other hand is talking a language you fail to understand.

My last visit to Moscow the Bolshoi was being renovated, I think it was closed for around 5 years. Red Square, St Basil’s cathedral are well worth a visit. Moscow in general is well worth a long weekend.

Absolutely agree. (it was closed for years. One to stop it falling down.. I think. Two to upgrade it. Moscow Centre is worth a visit.. But not cheap.

If you ever change your mind, I have two passports. You can borrow one if you like.

Lol. I still have two also. I enjoyed my visit to the Ballet in Moscow in that slightly famous theatre. Didn't fly there in a 747 anytime though. That journey from Moscow City Centre to the Airport is a nightmare.

Right so concentrating on the topic in hand any tears over the 747s demise are just rich peoples nostalgia, they've had their day as has sending children up chimneys and licking asbestos tiles

As I should've replied to @Russian Saint I have let my passport expire and will never travel abroad again so I won't miss them...

    About right.

The first time I saw them was in their early days as Prestwick Airport was used as a trainibg base.

Like you, I no longer travel overseas.

Good news - perhaps foreign travel will become restricted to something like 1 holiday trip every 5 years and business trips approved only when necessary.

Look forward to more Airplane's Graveyards!

The only equitable solution to the current pandemic is a Cambodian Style Year Zero and the Punk Rock that accompanied it

In South Africa the year before the football World Cup I met with one of the leaders of the committee organising the event and a government security expert and invited to a colloquium on how to handle the number of planes they would have on the ground as the number outstripped the, then, capacity of the airfields. Reminds me of the pics we see now of the number of parked planes.

Emissions from airlines are about 3% of annual global pollution.

Industry together with power generation (domestic as well as industrial) are where the emissions reduction gains are needed.

Correct. Gov policy will focus on work creation in domestic properties. Then incentives for low emission travel. Then industry. The first is an easy, if costly win, the second has started. Business users can get great deals, supported by Gov, on electric cars. Changes in work practices will help drive changes in industry but major change is costly. Tax incentives will be needed.

    Indeed.

There's also an increase in asthma and other respiratory conditions coinciding with the increase in car usage.

In the early 60s there were around 4 cars in the street I lived in from around 30 houses. Now... This would average around 1 or more per house.

Aye, he was a bit of a fantasist..................everyone to their own.

One major criticism of The Power of Positive Thinking is that the book is full of anecdotes that are hard to substantiate. Almost all of the experts and many of the testimonials that Peale quotes as supporting his philosophy are unnamed, unknown and unsourced. Examples include a "famous psychologist",[16]:52 a two-page letter from a "practicing physician",[16]:150 another "famous psychologist",[16]:169 a "prominent citizen of New York City",[16]:88 and dozens, if not hundreds, more unverifiable quotations. Similar scientific studies of questionable validity are also cited. As psychiatrist R.C. Murphy wrote, "All this advertising is vindicated as it were, by a strict cleaving to the side of part truth," and referred to the work and the quoted material as "implausible and woodenly pious".

    Quoting someone else's opinion?

Don't you have one of your own?

  11. High streets grew out of changing shopping patterns in the past, have suffered from the growth of out of town shopping centres followed by online shopping.

Returning road traffic to town high streets is unlikely to be accepted as part of the solution unless this is accompanied by returning a number of the units  and offices to residential use.

There are new ideas out there for retail which combine retail and increased use of technology in flexible ways. Hasn't arrived yet.. But on its way.

For the right fee, anything is possible. :D

I can add optional extras such as poetry readings.

If you are particularly needy I can bring my aromatherapy kit.

Is that the one where you are in all over rubber? (take a child size suit for the Wee Man).
