  1. Was going to that tonight but wanted to send an e-mail sitting at the desk before I took the laptop through to the other room. Seemed a bit quicker so ran the speed test and got 20Mbps. Tried the phone and got the same. It's weird.
  2. Not old enough to remember not having tv but old enough to remember colour starting - on BBC2 iirc. You were posh if you were first to get colour, don't think we got colour till1970+ To answer the questions raised in your penultimate paragraph, yes and no respectively - and it's not an age thing when an old fart like me understands it.......
  3. I've got a Virgin router so don't think that's the problem. As I said, I'm now officially baffled.....
  4. I'm going to try the hard wired option next but I don't understand why my phone is fine on the wireless network - I get 20Mbps using the phone but only half that with the laptop or pc.
  5. Bought a new laptop, confident that the problem would be solved. Exactly the same results......I'm now officially baffled!
  6. Bonus point win for Embra, 43-10
  7. Voting to rescind the union equates to voting to leave the EU? Seriously? Where does it say that in the white paper, must have missed it. Another for z_a - since the UK wouldn't exist anymore, wouldn't rUK be treated the same ad Scotland?
  8. I'd echo oaky's comments, z_a, and I know it's your area of expertise, but surely we have rights as individuals and taking those rights away from us would surely be open to challenge?
  9. So neither Serbia nor Montenegro are members. Greece was threatened because it refused to comply with economic measures relating to the Euro. We are already a member and not in the Euro. It follows that your comparisons are meaningless. We're already EU citizens, are they going to take that away from us? No? Didn't think so.
  10. Sorry, mate, didn't realise that's what you were after. As Lex said, rest, or rump or remainder. It's in fairly common usage now and easier than typing the Kingdom of England every time!
  11. Whataboutery. Candidates versus members. Can you see the difference yet? We're already EU citizens. Are they going to take that away from us? No? Didn't think so.
  12. There is an assumption that rUK will inherit the UK rights to everything in the event of the Treaty being rescinded. It strikes me there is a very good case to be made that when one becomes two, both are treated the same.
  13. Shouldn't but can't resist - Serbia's not in the EU, it's applying for membership, Scotland is already in. Can you see the difference between the two scenarios yet? We're already EU citizens, are they going to take that away from us? No? Didn't think so.
  14. Alan McVeigh? Don't remember that from my younger days.
  15. Meant to quote this in the above (blame the phone!)
  16. Without Scotland there is no UK. By definition. Whatever Scotland is required to do, there is a compelling legal argument that rUK will also have to do.
  17. We are already EU citizens. Are they going to take that away from us? No? Didn't think so.
  18. We are already EU citizens. Are they going to take that away from us? No? Didn't think so.
  19. The difference being that we are already EU citizens. Are they going to take that away from us? No? Didn't think so.
  20. While we're part of the UK, not as a seperate nation.
  21. There was one important point made by the BBC last night which everyone seems to have missed - this is the manifesto for the 18 month interim government between referendum and independent nationhood. That period is when the political parties would set out their stalls for the nation's future and the people would then choose the party (or parties) they considered the best option.
  22. Not in the short term, no, and that's the point. Nothing will change until there is a general election and the people of Scotland vote for whatever policies they think the country should adopt. Think of it as someone who's left home as a student - plenty of those bring washing back to their parents and to be fed. For the first couple of years, anyway.
  23. We're already in Sterling, the EU - I'm an EU citizen, that won't change - and NATO, why do we need to negotiate any more than rUK does?
  24. Which part of "we don't need permission from anyone to keep using Sterling" isn't clear?
  25. How else are you supposed to forecast? Each of the assumptions has a reasoned argument underpinning it, it's reasonable to proceed on the basis that the assumption will hold true. Can't wait to see BT's equivalent and the assumptions they make. Oh that's right, they're not doing one.
