  1. And left wing political ideologies usually advocate looking out for each other. That's not relevant. My point is that Communism in theory is left-wing, as practiced it was totalitarian and by no measure left-wing. Socialism is left wing, there are many examples in Europe alone of workable socialist countries/economies. I'll leave it to you to explain why fascism is an offshoot of socialism, you've lost me there. Unless you're agreeing with my point about practice and theory? Anyway, wrong thread for this, I'll stop here.
  2. Read my post again, totalitarian is not left-wing by any stretch of the imagination. The systems you've described could as easily be ascribed to Nazi Germany, are you saying it was left-wing? Only Wiki but you'll get the idea https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Totalitarianism
  3. None of them could be described as left-wing. As you quite rightly point out, they are/were totalitarian, a completely different beast.
  4. He's my mate, gave him love and (virtual) big hugs earlier in the thread. [emoji846]
  5. I'm old enough to remember this being in the charts - 1969? ETA - I really am getting old, asked the question then realised the still shot answers it for me... [emoji846]
  6. Kenny Rogers https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-51986611
  7. May well have been but that wasn't my point so I'll ask again? Who? (a clue - there's more than one type of salmon....) [emoji846]
  8. Well done, BiEK, that's exactly how zero hours contracts should be used.
  9. If you don't agree with Oaky you're a lefty, simples really.
  10. Was due to fly out to Australia 26 March for our niece's wedding on 04 April, Australia's just imposed a 14 day self isolation period for overseas arrivals. Brother-in-law turns 60 in December, Christmas in Oz it is then, I guess... [emoji3525]
  11. This forum has more than a few... [emoji846]
  12. You know what happens next, yes? [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]
  13. She can't overrule UK Cobra. Not yet, anyway... [emoji846]
  14. That's not answering my question, though, it's not Sturgeon's idea, it's Cobra's - "Cobra's an idiot" would have made sense if that's your opinion. ETA before the grammar polis jump in, "Cobra's being idiotic" would have made even more sense. [emoji846]
  15. Because she's said what she thinks Cobra will do? How do you work that one out, faraway?
  16. You have to admire the skill in meshing all those discrete conspiracy theories into one overarching theory. And I agree, the Trump space force is the icing on the cake.
  17. They only give you the one. Mind you, that's about all it takes these days... [emoji846]
  18. Off to Australia at the end of March via Amsterdam & Singapore. Got an email from Singapore Airlines saying that they're cleaning absolutely everything after every flight - fair enough - all reading materials are being removed from seat backs - reasonable - the hot towel service is being replaced by wet wipes - disappointing but that makes sense - and the post take off drinks service is being withdrawn - that's f**k all to do with the virus, ya bassas, you're using it as an excuse to cut costs!
  19. One of the guys I work with was in Venice last week. HR have told him to go home and 'self-isolate' for two weeks...does that mean him and his missus in separate rooms?
