Don't get hung up on development fees. We'll only get what someone is willing to pay. No-one was willing to pay the full fee for the bargain that was John McGinn. We can ask for a fee but what we get is another matter. Jay is 21 and an age where he should be playing first team football. I can see Championship teams interested but only willing to pay a nominal fee, if that. Else he stays for another year and walks away for free.

Happily for us that's not how it works.

There are a few ways that this can play out.

A club will pay the development fee or a fee that the club deems suitable. Which, with the club's finances being as they are, won't be a cut-price sum.

A club can choose not to pay the development fee or a fee that the club deems suitable, and it goes to tribunal, where the training development fees criteria will be applied along with factors like first team appearances and U-21 appearances etc.

No-one is interested enough to stump up the development fee or take it to a tribunal and he re-signs. We keep him for a year, then the same scenario arises as the training development fee covers players up to the age of 23. Henderson is 21.

He signs for somewhere out with UEFA jurisdiction e.g. USA and we don't get a development fee.

    No one

    You could well be correct.

Should be interesting to see how this plays out.

I wonder how much the development fee amounts to?

Pure speculation on my part, but If Reid's was around £100K, you'd have to imagine that Henderson's would be at least that.

Jay continuing to show his quality in this afernoon's semi final. The first goal arising from a penalty for hand ball from one of his crosses and the second goal from another of his pin-point accurate crosses.

Surely SR has to include him next season as a regular first team choice without necessarily 'guaranteeing him a place' every single game - no player can expect that.

But then maybe it's too late....

If we were to go with wingers next season, and we want to push on, we need better "as a regular first team choice" than Henderson IMO.

A signing akin to the quality of Ilkay Durmus would do. Henderson would be decent back up though.

However I'm sure Henderson will be set on a move to league one or two down south in order to get a significant increase in wages.

Although I'm not sure how much the runners up or the winners in the cup final get. ICT might be able to use that for any development fee we're due.

Said that a few weeks ago if he hadn't been injured think we would have got top 6 before yesterday not for his goals just his all round play.

Look at the teams above us the 5 biggest teams in Scotland by an absolute mile with everyone of them having at least one 15/20 goal per season striker (Aberdeen have 2 WTF) yet we are the best of the rest with Curtis Main on 7 goals.

Unfortunately finding and being able to afford a goal scoring striker for a team like us is like finding the holy grail.

If Main goes and we could somehow find some club daft enough to take Brophy off our hands, every penny should be put into finding a striker that can score double figures, ideally towards the 15-20 goal mark.

Motherwell seemed to have lucked out with Van Veen, although even he was getting pelters from their fans earlier in the season. So there must be suitable targets out there. This should be Foyle's priority.

    Top 6 mission achieved.

One area that we do need to address though is how poor we are when going in favourites against struggling teams.  Like the Dundee cup game we never showed up here.  We don't seem to be able to stretch teams and use the width to make runs and get in crosses.

Big Ayunga is a huge miss for us in that respect.

When he's on his game he causes defences a lot of problems.

Sadly Watt has turned out to be as much use as Brophy so far.

    I live in hope......................

Well put, but i an of the opinion that Saints fans think we are far better than most of the other clubs.

I just don't think we are, although the league table would disagree with me.

I don't know of any Saints fans who are arrogant enough to think that.

However, over the season so far, we clearly are a bit better than the teams that are in the bottom six.

I just don't get fans that constantly belittle any positives that happen at the club. Why even bother "supporting" us?

I'm not including you in that category.

    Apparently there are only

    𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝, 248 tickets remaining.
    𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝, 121 tickets remaining.
𝐓𝐨𝐧𝐲 𝐅𝐢𝐭𝐳 𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝, 97 tickets remaining.

No sure it's true but certainly feels like it's going to be a cracker. Only downside will be a pathetic Killie support. Can we no give them any tickets?

They will sell out their allocation no problem.

Mark O'Hara is signing of the season and player of the season for me.

And that doesn't come easily as Carson, Strain, Baccus and Gallagher could all realistically fall into that category bit I think with no O'Hara in there, we just wouldn't tick.

    indeed.

A close run thing between O'Hara and Main for me.

What they add to the team can't be made up for by any of our other players.

  9. Gallagher can't be match fit, so I think keeping Captain Joe in the line-up is the correct decision.

Both Captain Joe and Dunne had an extremely hard shift against two very physical forwards last week.

A very different task awaits them today. Let's hope they rise to the occasion.

For every name you've mentioned there will be about 50 who, indeed, turned out to be fuds.

Oh, I agree about the greetin faced cnuts bit right enough. 👍

PS I happen to think Henderson has some potential, just not that hes a future John McGinn. 😉

My initial post was somewhat laced with hyperbole to counter one that seemed to have turned Henderson into Lionel Messi, after one nutmeg.

I agree. He's shown occasionally at the top level that he is capable of some great play. Both his goals v Dundee United were excellent. However, for me he hasn't done it consistently enough, albeit he hasn't played as much as he'd like. Too often he seemed not able to get past his man or get crosses in. At a lower level that seems to be a bit easier. Maybe I am being too harsh and he'll develop more in the future. However, given the silence from the club regarding a contract extension, I've a feeling that it might not be with us.

I'd rather we kept Henderson as opposed to Olusanya right enough.

He's already a proven creator and scorer of goals at SPFL Premiership level and he's now doing it consistently in the Championship. Pundits, commentators and ICT fans have been praising his performances ever since he went there and he will start in a Scottish Cup Semi final in a few weeks, and his team will be the favourites to win it. The only people that seem keen to talk him down at the moment is a section of our own support - bizarre!

I nearly fell off my seat laughing at the irony of that statement.

  13. I’m not saying Main didn’t dive, but I’ve yet to see any categoric evidence that he did.
If you watch the media person's match day video, there's an angle directly behind Main. It looks as if the defender has clipped Main's right heel and leaned his elbow into his back. Main did make the most of it, but contact was made. Cast iron penalty.[emoji849]
