  1. Love that! Set the emotions going all over again. And going back to the point Drew made in his earlier post, it is incredible the goodwill that is coming my way from supporters of a whole range of teams in the small Trossachs town where I currently reside. I can only think of one other Bud who stays here so people do get to know you, I talk up the team all the time and make sure I am wearing the stripes when I am playing 5 a sides (very badly). People up here in the main seem to be genuinely delighted that we have won the cup, and most OF fans have been pretty gracious about it-though one Sevco fan couldn't resist adding "It was only Hearts". Guess old habits die hard. Cards on table due to family commitments I don't get down to Paisley as often as I'd like but we are all ambassadors for this club wherever we are and there have been occasions in the past where being a fan of the mighty Buds has earned me derision and some good natured piss taking. But this is payback time, and like many on here I feel Sunday proved the truth of that old phrase "Paisley is St Mirren and St Mirren is Paisley". And Danny Lennon by the way deserves every moment of this-anybody who doubted how much this club means to him must have come to their senses on Sunday. The moment after the 3rd goal just taking in the supporters and the dedicating of the trophy to the massed ranks of Saints fans showed how much class the guy has. And it IS more than a football club, taking it all in on Sunday i thought back to my late mum and dad and memories of Paisley and of course '87. Just a magic time to be a Buddie and long may this feelgood factor continue-though as we're from Paisley it won't last too long I reckon!
  2. Caught this thread a bit late but of interest to me because Hector Nicol was my late father's second cousin and my Gran was a Nicol. Anyway as others have mentioned his life was tainted by personal tragedy-my father did speak of Hector's son's murder on more than one occasion, I think he was stabbed to death by some lowlife at a bus stop? Other than that he wasn't spoken of much-possibly due to my rather "strait-laced" parents being a bit embarrassed by his stage act-and I never met him except when I was too young to remember anything. I do remember seeing some of his LP's in record shops though ("Hobo-sexual" rings a bell) and finally caught his act on a giant telly at the Cross Stobs in Borrheid when I was about 18 and was strangely proud he was an (admittedly very distant) relative as I laughed like a drain-though probably quite tame nowadays. Re SMFC I can't shed any light on this but it definitely wouldn't surprise me if he was a fan as my Grandfathers were big Saints fans and my mum took great delight in telling me every time I came through the door on a Saturday afternoon bemoaning how some crappy referee had robbed us again that she was well used to hearing it-espec after games against the evil Glasgow twosome-so some things don't change at least. Anyway not very illuminating I'm afraid but just caught my interest as a relative and Bud.
  3. Just back from Hampden. The players-every single guy in Black and White-were absolutely magnificent today. Thommohawk is a legend but there were no failures today. And that is some debut by Isma!! That is what being a St Mirren fan is all about. I'm 48 and they can still surprise me. Even on the (relatively few tbh) occasions Celtic put us under pressure today our players harried and pressed and just gave absolutely everything. Yes now we all want to win the Final but just for today let's savour this. SMTID. FTOF.
