I have been speaking to someone in the know for a while and he says that Baccus, Strain and O'Hara are on other clubs' radars. That's obviously not something revelationary, but quite scary if all three were to go with no time to replace them! I think that scenario would give me an @elvis outlook on our prospects for the rest of the season.

    ETA:

I had the above comment sitting unpublished from earlier. Just read about the prospect of Robinson going to Hibs, too. Now imagine he also left along with the other three! Any players he had earmarked to bring in would be scuppered, too. Why would he want to strengthen a rival club, after all? Have they all got release clauses? 🤯

Maybe some of the rumoured bids will materialise, maybe not.  I'd be surprised if we see any changes for saints at this point

I know this is two days old but the journalist looking down his nose at wee St Mirren fuc***g does my head in.

"Malky Mackay. The Scot has worked wonders with Ross County and has previously operated at a rarified level down south with Watford, Cardiff City and Wigan. "

That passage neatly summarises the journalist's knowledge and ability.

With Ohara back I see no place in team for Baccus.....Kiltie, Munce,Mcmeniman, Gogic, Ohara all on team sheet before him for midfield....

What kind of team runs a four-man midfield with only 5 to pick from

    Grow up.

If it does happen then it needs to be soon and for > £1,000,000 to allow us to strengthen and secure other key players on longer/better deals.  Otherwise it will be a sell-out (again).

  4. Almost all of the top 10 seeded players still in contention makes it look hard for Murray to get to week 2, he does look very confident so maybe he knows something the rest of us don't.  Still being in the draw on Monday could be one of his top achievements.

I remember a Davie Shepherd from Bute Crescent used to hurtle around Paisley (Glenburn in particular) at a frightening pace dropping off the Heralds and the Evening Times to the delivery guys, at least you could hear him, or his gearbox, coming as you crossed the road.

Whatever happened to the ubiquitous "van boy" jobs?  Just about everyone who got dispensation to leave St Aelred's at  15 had an offer of a van boy job at the laundry, bakeries or on the papers.

The ultimate irony of it was, that I made more from my paper round per week (which I did directly with the Glasgow Herald) than I was being paid to be an apprentice surveyor.

Due to the new work being in Glasgow I couldn't continue with the paper round which was pretty useful money at the time!

Agreed. This is only an issue for teams in Scotland because the old firm have bigger grounds and more fans.
Trying to be objective, why should they subsidise the rest of the league.
You can still draw comparisons to the EPL though. I’m not sure you hear too much moaning from Brentford or Bournemouth that Man Utd and Arsenal earn significantly more in gate revenue.
I know there’s more money generally in the English game but it’s still all relative.
I of course remember the old system, but in this modern age it’s hard to believe that gate sharing was ever a thing.

There’s plenty things I strongly dislike about the old firm but wanting to keep their own money isn’t one of them.

They take the lion's share of the league money and always will, they can afford to drop a couple of million to the common good fund, it's not as if they use it well and maybe a bit more competition would shake our league up.  Fans are coming back and they will want to see more competition.

The old firm have long complained that their poor performance in Europe was down to a lack of competition at home, but they have killed that by fixing the system and the one chance we had to restore balance was scuppered by an Aberdeen board that had ideas they could be a permanent 3rd force.

We need to remember that comparisons with the EP are not apples with apples, they share the TV money far more fairly with promotion payment gurantees (which makes a promoted side far more competitive as long as they havent pawned the silver to get promoted) and relegation cushion payments.  Look at how clubs with smaller stadia like Bournemouth, Brighton, Forest and others can mix it in the middle third of the table with clubs who get 35000-40000 and more for home games.  our system is geared to perpetuate the duopoly.

    Thats not relevant.

What is relevant, and concerning, is two members of the St Mirren board taking legal action against the supporters organisation that owns the club.

Its a pity, this should have been able to work, unfortunately too many egos at play, together with it would appear weakness and lack of integrity from our reps on the SMFC board. Time to reconfigure the managemenr of the club without kibble involvement IMO.

I don't think it is legal action, in a punitive sense.  More an order not to disclose specific things they know in the public domain in case it prejudices their case against Wardrop.  On one hand, a reasonable and prudent thing to do however it does beg the question of what the SMISA board members know.  If that is just a frivolous scare tactic then SMISA should be easily able to dispense with it.  It could also be that one or more SMISA office-bearers have taken their own legal advice and asked for the kibble guys to make the order application so that they can keep shtum and refuse to answer questions until a counter-order is in place.  All tactics designed to cost the person being sued money and to try and persuade Wardrop to roll over.  I suspect that if this was going to happen then it would already have done so and that this case will end up with an agreement on both sides not to pursue it further. This is probably a futile exercise as SMISA will have to answer honestly if called as witnesses in the case.

What is clear is that the governance is in shambles if one party feels the need to try and gag another.

At first i thought that the Kibble guys were just after a few bucks in an out of court settlement, however this looks more like they are feeling vulnerable and trying to get a genie back in a bottle.

  9. I am looking forward to a win here, a great opportunity to go back to the top of the table.   Every other game this weekend is potentially a draw and we will be in a really good position to come out of the international break with a strengthened squad which could see us into the LC semi-final.  As long as "that pitch" doesn't cause us more injuries on Saturday.  Outside of the Glasgow teams i see every match as winnable for us and we are even in good shape to shake those two up.

    Happy days.

I don't kid myself that we will be top 2 in May, the chances are there for a top 4 finish though and maybe a cup final appearance and being top 4-top 6 at the turn of year with LC success of some sort behind us will add potential funds and confidence when we assess the winter window.  This is THE time not to blow it in the old, familar way

    I agree with this.
Much as I think youth is the lifeblood of clubs such as ours, there’s no doubt that the “conveyor belt” of talent we have produced over the years doesn’t seem to be producing as many first team regulars under Robbo .

There are lots of promising youngsters but not many getting first team game time but as we are doing very well, playing some of the best football many have seen for some time & competing well against teams with budgets well above ours , how many would trade that for a team bringing through youngsters and us being a yo-yo club ?
I think Robbo has a very clear idea of what works, if any youngsters are going to break into the first team and keep their place , they are going to have to be McGinn or Lambert class .

I think Robinson's attitude seems to be that we should sign players who are underperforming elsewhere, restore their confidence and performances and then see if they can be sold on.  The problem we have there is that these players are signed on short-ish contracts and if they don't sign an extension or move on very quickly then we miss that chance to cash in.  The other big risk is that the prices to land these players in the first place may rise or the availability goes down and we sign a few duds.

The best money we have seen in recent years has been on academy graduates who have gone elsewhere for their development

  11. None of this looks very good, the governance structure seems not to have been respected and when individuals make an application on behalf of a body they are connected with, but not appointed to represent, then the suggestion (at least) is that some people on the board see their remit as unlimited and unrestricted.  If any good comes out of this, it will be around the defining of exactly who has the right and permission to do exactly what.

As regards the orders made against SMISA, I wonder what they are.  Possibly around public disclosure of things that might harm Kibble and that Kibble contest?

As I said at the very start, there is rarely anything so chaotic as a bunch of people using other people's money without any sense of accountability.

The main complaint about VAR is the amount of times it takes to come to these decisions at the game from opposite end of Stadium ours looked a stonewall penalty one view on Sportscene confirmed this so why the 4 min delay to give it. Do O'Hara or Ayunga even get in the team at the minute??? I would suggest not you have our 3rd choice striker scored 2 from the bench (should be 3 but VAR fuc**d that up too).
Then you have the midfield 3 of Boyd-Munce, Baccus and Kiltie playing some wonderful football last two weeks O'Hara might have to wait to get back in.

O'Hara remains our prime playing asset and Ayunga's form of last year could well put him in the mix for a starting place in games where we will soak it up and hit on the break.  Grieve seems far happier coming off the bench and taking advantage of tiring defenders and I suspect that is where he will stay.  Small is also back and on a one year loan he is going to be playing sooner rather than later.  Overall a good position when a larger squad is needed, remember how badly we faded in the final 5 or 6 games of last season, that is far less likely now

I am concerned that the younger players will get less game time now that the squad has been strengthened, Robinson does not seem to me to be the kind of manager to give a player a run just to help him develop.

If VAR was used as it was meant to, ie, preventing CLEAR AND OBVIOUS mistakes, it would work ok. If it takes these idiots five minutes and thirty odd views to decide the ref got it wrong then it is NOT obvious the ref got it wrong,

I never saw the terms of referrence for the project and to this point was unaware it was only meant to cover the clear and obvious

That said, the flight of the ball at their penalty implied there was a double hit and all they had to look for was the point where it would have occurred

I struggled to remember the name of the big red sandstone house on the hill (top right) and found it is Thorscrag, built by the arcitect Mclennan who designed some of the more Rennie-Mackintosh- (ish) houses in Thornley Park,  described as one of the most unusual houses in Scotland,  I used to see it on my travels around Glenburn as a kid and when i worked in Barrhead for a while, it always struck me as being somewhat intimidating.  It is currently owned by this guy

  16. We will need to be considerably sharper in front of goal than we were last weekend to get anything from this game.  I'd like to see more game time for Olusanya, maybe ahead of Mandron, and would hope that we can start to see what Nahmani can do.  I fear that Jamieson, after a good run in the friendlies and LC group stage, is going to suffer the fate that most academy graduates face in our team after early promise-an extended period on the bench, with no game time and eventually dropping off the page when money comes available for a journeyman

  17. I thought we looked really comfortable for as long as we pressed and kept a relatively high line.  It was a bit panicky sometimes when 'well got through though.  They were never in danger of converting a chance and we should have got at least one more goal.

We lacked the variety of passing that we get when O'Hara plays, which is a worry.  We are very much a defensive midfield that presses and looks for a break without him as opposed to a more attacking mindset when he is on the pitch

Mandron does several things well,   We added a dimension when Olusanya came on, where Mandron will shield the ball by trying to stand strong Oli seems to use far more energy that is far more liable to lead to a break.  He is much more of a defender's nightmare.  Ayunga is supposedly back in a few weeks and with an international break coming up we will maybe come back with a bounce.
