  1. Being a very sad individual, I decided to investigate @Albanian Buddy's claim and he is indeed, correct. It goes back quite some way, too: I must admit, I too had never heard of it, so can understand @Slarti's scepticism.
  2. You don't think that someone choosing to kill another human being purely out of curiosity is interesting? 😵 I would suggest the fact that the story emanates from South Korea and is one of the most read stories on the BBC, suggests your view is not typical. Given your prolific engagement in the Weather Report thread, I would have thought you'd find a story like this absolutely riveting. 😛
  3. Korean true crime fan murdered stranger 'out of curiosity' A South Korean court has given a life sentence to a true crime fan who told police she murdered a stranger "out of curiosity". Jung Yoo-jung, 23, had been obsessed with crime shows and novels and scored highly on psychopath tests, police said. Fixated with the idea of "trying out a murder", she used an app to meet an English-language teacher, stabbing her to death at her home in May. She contacted more than 50 people and favoured women, asking them if they conducted their lessons at home. In May, posing as the mother of a high school student who needed English lessons, she contacted the 26-year-old victim, who lived in the south-eastern city of Busan. Her identity has not been disclosed by police. Jung then showed up at the tutor's house dressed in a school uniform she had bought online, prosecutors said. After the teacher let her in, she attacked the woman, stabbing her more than 100 times - continuing the frenzied attack even after the victim had died. She then dismembered the woman's body and took a taxi ride to dump some of the remains in remote parkland near a river, north of Busan. She was arrested after the taxi driver tipped off police about a customer who had dumped a blood-soaked suitcase in the woods. --- Full story: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-67517532 🤯 Absolutely shocking.
  4. I suppose because it is a historical county, which existed from the end of last century until the 1970s and so coincided with the rivalry for most of the clubs' existence. Perhaps we should find another local club to establish a rivalry with, because this one's very one-sided?! Our nearest SPFL club is surely Rangers? But I don't think they're ever likely to see us as rivals. How about Partick Thistle? Their traditional rivals, Clyde, are nearly deid...as I suspect we will discover tonight. Then again, it's been a few years since they were in the top-flight, now.
  5. I would have been willing to watch Clyde vs Jeanfield Swifts, as I would have an interest in backing the underdog and could have watched on my sofa wearing my black and white scarf. I don't suppose there's a stream for it anywhere?
  6. Compare and contrast the narrative pushed...
  7. I think the upsetting thing about Ireland is that a lot of these people labelled 'far-right' are simply working class people who're concerned about the lack of affordable housing in their area, let alone their fear of lots of unvetted single men living in close proximity to them and their families. Can you blame them after the incidents in places like Rochdale and Rotherham? So they have demonstrated, as is their right, and been ignored and looked upon with disdain by those supposedly elected to represent them. Then yesterday a tragedy did happen and young children were stabbed. This comes not long after an attack in Dublin Airport, too. Added to that is the hypocrisy of the media and politicians, many of whom seemed to welcome the protests and riots in the wake of the death of George Flloyd, a convicted criminal, who died in a country 3,000 miles away. If politicians are willing to simply dismiss the concerns of the people - and worse sneer at them - then this is the result. Seemingly, they have far more to say about the rioting than the fact that Irish children were stabbed on the streets of their capital city. Now they apparently want to clamp down on the protests. As JFK said, "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."
  8. Purely from a sense of progression, aye. But when else are we likely to get a Renfrewshire derby? Wouldn't that be more of an occasion to savour? Pollok away would be good as it would likely be picked for TV and that club's just 5 miles from the Paisley/Glasgow boundary. For me, Firhill is a single bus journey and would involve about five minutes' walking from door to my stadium, all in. Plus I have a few Thistle supporting friends. Any away day to a lower league side means potentially seeing a new ground or visiting one I've seldom been to. I cannot be annoyed travelling too far, though. Keep it quite local - Falkirk being the furthest. I hope we're spared a trip to the Highlands, particularly! The worst scenario is obviously an away game to a fellow SPL side or ICT.
  9. The report was published in 1974. The independence referendum took place in 2014. 2014 - 1974 = 40. I suppose the late 70s, early 80s wouldn't have been too late. My knowledge of oil fields is limited to what I have read about the Peak Oil phenomenon, but essentially when an oil field has first been drilled it's much cheaper to extract the oil. As it gets depleted it becomes more expensive to extract. Just Googled and voila: Source: https://www.planete-energies.com/en/media/article/life-cycle-oil-and-gas-fields# Also, it's usually the oil fields that are cheapest to exploit that are drilled first. In other words, the best money was made in the 1970s and 1980s. We were robbed. And some utter fools actually think that's a good thing and respect the robber! Such folk can usually be found on the slopes of Ibrox.
  10. 1st part: Aye. Thanks for sharing your "informed" opinion with me, Faraway Saint. 2nd part: Because the referendum was about forty years too late and most of the oil had been used up by then! 'The McCrone report is a document on the Scottish economy written and researched in 1974 on behalf of the British Government. It was composed by Professor Gavin McCrone employed at the Scottish Office using some information that was publicly available at the time and some that was not. The document gave a favourable projection for the economy of an independent Scotland with a "chronic surplus to a quite embarrassing degree and its currency would become the hardest in Europe". It also noted that the Common Market or EEC meant that Scotland could pivot away from the rest of UK (if required) for trade. The memo from UK Civil Servants to UK Government ministers was classified “secret”; some have argued that this was to avoid fuelling independence sentiment in Scotland. The report became public in 2005 when new freedom of information legislation came into effect.'[1][2] Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McCrone_report I think most Scots would want to have lived in a country with a "chronic surplus to quite an embarrassing degree." We would have been like Norway. As you can see, the memo was classified. The report only became public in 2005.
  11. As I stated, I would love that, but: 2,088. How many tickets would we get? 1,000? There would be an almighty scramble for tickets, as we have 3,500 season ticket holders. I wonder how they would be allocated? First come, first serve, presumably? They would be sold out in hours. ETA source: https://nonleaguescotland.org.uk/pollok.html
  12. I thought I would list the fixtures here along with which clubs I think will be in the draw (emboldened): Albion Rovers v Bonnyrigg Rose Annan Athletic v Dumbarton Brora Rangers v Pollok Broxburn Athletic v Buckie Thistle Cumnock Juniors v Broomhill Dunbar United v Alloa Athletic Dunfermline Athletic v Raith Rovers Falkirk v Formartine United Greenock Morton v Bo'ness United Hamilton Academical v Kelty Hearts Inverness Caledonian Thistle v Cowdenbeath Montrose v Edinburgh City Clyde v Jeanfield Swifts Partick Thistle v Queen's Park Peterhead v Ayr United Queen of the South v Dundee United Stirling Albion v Cove Rangers Stranraer v Airdrieonians The Spartans v Arbroath Tranent v Forfar Athletic For the easiest passage, a home draw to any of these would be fine (perhaps with the exception of Dundee Utd or Raith Rovers). I would quite like an away trip to any of these: Albion Rovers, Dumbarton, Pollok, Broomhill, MORTON (obviously!), Hamilton, Partick Thistle, Ayr Utd, Stirling Albion & Airdrieonians. Pollok would be brilliant, though I believe the capacity has been severely restricted. I would be hugely disappointed if we get ICT away! I'm guessing @faraway saint would quite like an away trip to Arbroath?
  13. Javier isn't right-wing. He's a libertarian! Apparently he believes in open borders! He also strikes me as unhinged! 😆 Still, he's a break from the norm. I will keep my eye on Argentina.
  14. With the draw live on the BBC this Sunday, who do you want in the Cup? The poll is scheduled to close on Sunday at 19.15. My preferred option has to be Morton, preferably away. Failing that I would like Thistle at Firhill, as I know quite a few Plastic Whistle fans.
  15. Oh, I see why people on here insinuate you're a Rangers man! Nation is in quotation marks, which implies you do not even accept Scotland is a nation! As for the text in bold, that's quite literally my point. Had the truth been revealed, then the people of Scotland would have been convinced! Which is precisely why Westminster suppressed the true extent of the wealth that lay off Scotland's shores.
  16. It was the deceit that's irksome, Antrin! I referred to the media earlier. That's because people's choices are influenced by the information they're provided. The fact is the Scottish people may well have opted out of the Union. Not only could we have been 'that nation again', but we could have been a very prosperous one. It's a bit like a used car salesman convincing an old lady that the piece of junk on the forecourt is actually a reliable motor. She wouldn't have bought it if she knew all the facts, but she was deceived. She trusted the salesman. if the Scottish people had known about the benefits of the oil, we quite possibly would be living in an independent country right now...and when I saw 'we', I include you in that.
  17. Sorry, I meant Clyde v Jeanfield Swifts. Clyde play at New Douglas Park in Hamilton, I was thinking about going.
  18. The BBC are showing Dunfermline v "they'll be dancing on the streets of" Raith I know it's a derby, but surely the magic of the Cup is an upset? Hamilton v Jeanfield Swifts (who pumped Elgin in the last round, IIRC) is surely the game they should be showing!
  19. What, tonight? Don't they usually wait until the third round fixtures have been played?
  20. Our next six games should be relatively easy on paper, with the exception of Rangers away. We have: Livingston (h) Ross County (a) Rangers (a) St. Johnstone (a) Ross County (h) Motherwell (h) That's in the space of 3.5 weeks. If we want to maintain 3rd place I'd say we need to take at least 10 points from that lot. I think 12 points is doable, as we really should be looking to take maximum points at home. Ibrox, obviously, is a free hit. If we get something there, then brilliant. They play a European fixture on the Thursday, which will be good for us. If we fail to take 10 points then we will surely slip down the table.
  21. @ALBIONSAINT is correct, IMHO. I also think France might be next with Le Pen. As for Nigel Farage, he's clearly a controversial character who seems to divide public opinion, however even if you don't personally like him then one should appreciate that he's giving the electorate a wider choice, which is surely a good thing in a democracy? The electorate should have options, otherwise there's little point in it. We could live in North Korea, after all. Why I would say is that without a media that reflects all aspects of the political spectrum, democracy does not work, given it's enormous potential to influence people. However, the rise of social media is making even dissident opinions heard, which is a good thing.
