  1. I was, of course, referring to Glasgow in Suriname... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glasgow,_Suriname
  2. Indeed, I live in Glasgow, Buddie. I am not from Paisley, but see the Saints as a great alternative to the OF and Partick Thistle...plus I love the town. However, folk like us probably make up a tiny fraction of the support. Most supporters will be from Paisley or the surrounding areas to the west of the town, I would think. But folk like us are especially dedicated. 😉
  3. Our support this season has been magnificent, both home and away. Given our proximity to the Old Firm - let us not forget, St. Mirren Park is < 6 miles from Ibrox - I think that's a testament to the passion the people of Paisley, and Renfrewshire, have for the club. We have three games to go, though. Let's not get carried away! One game at a time. COYS! 😇 🏁 🇾🇪
  4. You'd better be at the Killie game! In fact...can you make Tynecastle next weekend?
  5. Hearts aren't playing well at the moment, so there's no better time to play them.
  6. I have no idea. Perhaps it could be considered a recent tradition, but it appears to date back at least 150 years, which is greater than living memory and I would suggest at least five generations back. Are you saying that the kilt is not traditional Scottish dress? I think if you were to poll the public, and ask them to describe men's traditional Scottish dress, the vast majority would respond, at least inter alia, with 'kilt'. If you were a quiz show contestant and that question was asked, how would you respond? Anyway, I have more important things to think about. If you have decided that it's not traditional, then I am happy to agree to disagree.
  7. Indeed, it's hypocrisy I cannot stand. Kate Forbes was honest about her beliefs.
  8. Quality stuff. Someone should make a thread listing all the Saints vloggers and vlogs, shouldn't they @shull?
  9. Delighted, but also peed off with myself. I stuck £5 on 2-2, and because I felt bad about that and Livi got pumped at home by ICT 3-0, I stuck the extra couple of quid in my account on this: I cashed out at half-time, of course!
  10. Why do you always have to create a separate post for each prediction, Shull? 🤣
  11. I managed to get a bit more sleep and a bit more positive. Livi have not had the best of runs, and were beaten 3-0 at home by ICT in the Cup, let's not forget. But they will be up for this, and they're no mugs. I'm going for a 2-2 draw.
  12. Aye, basically free money. When do you think they will score their winner?
  13. Are you feeling okay? I was only asking, there really is no reason to be so obnoxious. I didn't suggest it did matter, either; on the contrary, if you were living in Albania that would have been interesting. If you were an Albanian Buddy, it would have been interesting to learn why you'd chosen to the Buddies. I hope you have a great weekend.
  14. Touche. Since when has Albania produced whisky, though? 😉 On a serious note, using my great powers of deduction, I'm presuming you are living in Albania or at least were. What took you over there? I wasn't sure whether you were actually an Albanian who, for whatever reason, had decided to support St Mirren, or a Scot living in Albania...unless there's some other reason for your name, of course. I hope you don't find that an intrusive question, but it's not a typical destination.
  15. 5,678...to mark our gradual decline into eighth place. [/Elvis]
  16. I'm sorry, I don't understand what your point is. Christmas was an RC celebration: More here: https://phcmontreat.org/Exhibit-Christmas.html As per my previous post, Christmas didn't become a bank holiday in Scotland until 1958.
  17. Aye. Source: https://www.nts.org.uk/stories/scottish-christmas-traditions
  18. Above: John Warnock Clapperton, Private in 9th Battalion Royal Scots Regiment, later 12th Machine Gun Corps, 1915-1918 Above is a wood engraving of a Royal Scots Fusilier at a camp in South Africa, from 1879. The kilt has been the national dress for a long time. The kilt, bagpipes, whiskey, haggis, Burns, shortbread, Irn Bru, first footing - these are all things that will come to mind when folk talk about Scottish culture. It doesn't mean that Scots typically wear kilts, eat haggis and shortbread, drink whiskey and read Burns. Whether or not you wore a kilt as a child does not determine whether the kilt is traditional Scottish attire, that's not how it works. As for Yousaf, I don't like the man. Then again I wasn't a fan of Nicola Sturgeon, either. I'm not opposed to Scottish independence, but I am not a supporter of the SNP and will probably either spoil my ballot paper or vote for a smaller party (i.e. not Lib/Lab/Con/SNP/Green).
  19. This is where it just becomes silly. What is traditional Scottish clothing? You've seriously never heard of a kilt? https://www.britannica.com/topic/kilt Yousaf was clearly publicly acknowledging his Pakistani heritage by wearing those clothes. There's nothing necessarily wrong with that, per se. However, he had just been appointed First Minister for Scotland and therefore perhaps it would have been more fitting for him to publicly show his affinity and love of Scotland? I'm not sure why he has chosen to wear those clothes or have his photograph taken whilst praying, but it seems he wants the public to be aware that he is a Muslim of Pakistani heritage. Why then should people not comment on that? Christmas and Easter are certainly not Scottish traditions, especially the former which protestants didn't even celebrate in a meaningful way, I believe. But certainly Easter has traditionally been celebrated in Scotland.
  20. Firstly, a lot was made about Kate Forbes' faith, and very little made about Humza Yousaf's. In light of this, it seems the latter is now publicly flaunting his faith. Absolutely he could hold a prayer meeting, but why publicise it? Which has the more intolerant record with respect to women's and LGBT rights? Secondly, what's racist about criticising this? You are aware that Islam is NOT a race, it's a religion. My experience of those who conflate the two is that they're either very ignorant and have an erroneous and simplified view of the world in which only 'brown people' are Muslims. In addition to white Muslim converts, it's also the majority faith in places like Chechnya, Dagestan and Albania; in northern Nigeria they're typically black; and in Malaysia east Asian. Muslims praying in same-sex groups might be considered a 'big deal' in the eyes of many SNP supporters, and others, who believe in inclusivity.
  21. If you'd asked me before the game, that's what I'd have said.
  22. They needed the Green MSPs to form a government. Apparently it was the Greens who pushed the contentious trans stuff. Hasn't Kate Forbes been given a very junior position, hence her resignation?
  23. Ach, I'm happy to continue paying my £12 a month. It's the price of a couple of months.
