  1. If Celtic have offered £2m then it would be utter folly for Hibs to turn it down knowing they will lose him for nothing at the end of his contract. He maybe worth more but he is only worth what clubs are willing to bid. Perhaps the reason there appears to be no other bids is simply because a top club will get him on a pre contract and use transfer money to boost his contract (wages etc)?
  2. Purely an example of a new manager coming in and having to change the playing staff to accommodate club ambitions. I also don’t give a toss about Sunderland. I mentioned them because of JR and his wholesale changes to achieving promotion by getting in better players. Stubbs clearly reckons new blood is required to survive/compete in higher league. At least let’s see what his new players do.
  3. There will be a lot going on behind the scenes at the club. A week in football can see a raft of players coming in. A lot of clubs are in the same boat including Sunderland.
  4. Yes, he went to Peterborough - but for the wages. If they offered twice or more than Aberdeen then why not. We cannot compete (other than gruesome twosome) as clubs in England get a lot more in TV revenue. Football is a short career and if Jason spends a few years in the lower leagues earning more than he would have up here then good luck to him. He can then move up the leagues if he performs well or come back to Scotland if it doesn't work out. In the end, money talks.
  5. That would imply Sunderland are a better team than Celtic based on budget? If budgets determine success of a club how does that explain Leicester winning the league with a fraction of the budgets of most of top half of the EPL? How does that explain the rank rotten outcomes of Newcastle Utd (with 50k at home games) continually flirting with relegation? Its as much to do with talent spotting and effective management as much as spending to succeed. You won't convince me that a poorly performing 3rd Division team who have struggled for decades are a better team simply because they have a bigger budget (and likely debt).
  6. The point is that Gavin has had a go at top flight football and it didn't work.
  7. Rovers in a higher league? Are you claiming the English 3rd tier is higher than our Premiership?
  8. How well did Gav do in his previous stint in Premiership? Clearly he is considered by our manager as not good enough.
  9. Did any other buds see the Saints legend on the Third Lanark documentary show on Alba? He was interviewed and brought back great memories of him and Cammy Murray when I started watching our beloved team in 60s.
  10. I don't disagree with anything you stated. However, it will be up to AS who he feels will improve our team and fans will simply have to accept that it is his decisions (live and die by them) to making us strong enough to compete at this level. I think he will surprise us in a similar way that JR did with some of his successful signing - many we had never heard of. On a separate note, how can Livvie afford Miller?
  11. Watched a documentary on Garlic TV about Third Lanark last night and Tony Connell was interviewed. Great to see one of my all time favourites looking well.
  12. How exactly do you know what Gavin was offered?
  13. My point is that AS is getting pilloried by LB for his role at Rotherham (we know the Hibs situation). I know Paul L had success but my point was that even some of the best managers fail at certain clubs (Paul latterly). AS has the gig and will be judged on how he does.
  14. Expensive, you know this how? Seriously you make Elvis sound positive. Again, judging players without seeing them and judging others who have not even been named or come in.
  15. Exactly, remember that clutch of young boys fished out of the junior leagues by Fergie in the mid 70s? They had the talent to turn our team into the best I have seen within 18 months. There is talent there and just needs to be spotted and some of these young lads given a chance in an environment where most clubs demand instant success via the cheque book.
  16. Suck it up FFS. He is the Manager now so accept it. Exactly who would you like to have seen come in that we could afford and was available? The nonsense about foreign managers was just that. Lennon and Strachan were failures down South as were Lambert, MacLeish, Davies, McInnes, Yogi, Nielsen. We don't know the circumstances at Rotherham but that is history and every manager deserves a second crack at the whip. You are judging his signing policy before a ball is kicked and the squad complete. Surely he deserves at least time to put his mark on the club as manager? I recall the same knickerwetting when Tom H became manager with some saying how could we hire a part-time schoolteacher from the lower leagues. Same when Jack's reign was rocky for first 3 months and many wanted him sacked. Get behind the manager and the team and I have faith in our Board that they have chosen the right man. You are disappointed but criticism before a ball is kicked in anger is ridiculous.
  17. Has he been brought in as a striker - and our main one? Personally, I don't think so and AS will be bringing in a replacement for GR.
  18. Ryan Hardie just never clicked yet a number of clubs are desperate to get him. No doubt the ability of the manager can improve a player.
  19. Remind me how well Gavin did last time in Scottish Premiership? There was no guarantee that he would be good enough at this level and clearly Stubbs thought so. Let's see who AR brings in to lead up front.
  20. Maybe we wait and see how good these new guys are before dismissing or writing them off outright. AS has watched these guys and cannot believe he would fritter away a transfer fee. No guarantees but they will get my full backing. There will be further players coming in so let's judge them as they perform.
  21. Reilly unsuccessful at this level. We will see how this lad adapts.
  22. JR brought in a lot of players but not all have been a success. There will be certain players who will command a transfer fee after all we are now in a different league and if you want to improve on what we have/had then it costs. Btw Jack paid money for Mullan. Time will tell if the transfer fee is good value for money.
  23. Dimdee Utd are as are a few other Championship teams. As far as I can see most top clubs are not (excluding **** and Hearts). We have a new manager looking at our squad who have just returned to training. I would prefer we bring in the right players than a plethora of sub standard/unknown simply to satisfy impatient fans. Stubbs will have been working behind the scenes so let’s see who comes in.
  24. Being reported Sunderland are interested.
