1. Bergkamp v Newcastle, the outside flick and running round the player

2. Di Canio's scissor volley

3. Pires against villa/west ham - can't remember exactly which, but same time(ish) as the Bergkamp goal.

4. Van Basten overhead kick, Euro 88.

5. Zidane, last year's Champions League Final

Thoughts?

Don't have time to come up with 5 but Van Basten's in the Euro champs final when he volleyed it in from the side of the box somewhere near the touchline has to be up there in the top 5.

1. Beppe Signori - Lazio V Inter milan - he just rips the pish out the whole inter team and buries it. was in 92/93 season i think (i have an old Ac Milan video from that season - van basten n all, quality stuff!)

2. Van Basten V USSR

3. McAllister V Huntly - scottish cup

4. Solskjaer V Fulham - think it was 99/00, in the FA Cup, he just curled it 1st time into the bottom corner, sheer strikers instinct - different gravy!

5. Ma goal doon brockville astroturf a few years back, the ball was chipped over the last defender, i sprung the offside trap and fired a volley across the keeper into the top bin from about 30 yards ....screeeaamer!!!! :P

1. Tony Yeboah v Wimbledon for Leeds a few years back in the EPL!

2. Trevor Sinclair overhead kick for QPR in the 1st division

3. Cantona chip from edge of the box in EPL v Sunderland with the keeper about 2 yards off his line (the celebration after was also immense!)

4. Cantona v Sheffield Utd (league cup) when he dragged the ball through from behind him with his heel and smashed it home with a volley

5. J.Hewitt at love Street against falkirk....400 passes, rings run round the defence and the "mong" shown their place in Scottish football! :P

1. Archie Gemmill against Holland in 78, it HAS to be. What are you thinking about???? It just has to be that one!! Are you all four years old or something????? That is THE best ever goal scored in the history of creation! Not up for question.

2. Billy Davies V. Rangers at Ibrox, September '88. Ian Cameron waltzed through their defence before laying it off to wee Billy to crack a screamer into the top corner from the edge of the box.

3. Any goal scored by Raul at any point in the last, say, five years.

4. Brian Grant for Aberdeen V. Thistle at Firhill. Same as Beckham against Wimbledon, difference being he did it first and from further away.

5. Tough call but by the sounds of it I'd say Bob McShugs recent strike sounds a good call.

Howard:

You're right no-one, that's no-one, in their right mind can argue against Archie Gemmil in '78.

Also your no 3 is correct - he is different gravy.

Talking of hitting them from the halfway line - Nayim for Real Zaragoza v Arsenal in the UEFA cup (can't remember when but also before Beckham) even better for the look on Seaman's face and on the Arsenal fans considering Nayim was ex-Spurs.

Gary Birtles for Grimsby against Coventry in the League Cup 1989. Back to goal on the corner of the 18 yard box curled it back over his shoulder into the far top corner. Cue mental celebrations from Grimsby (then Div 4) fans beating Cov (then Div 1) 4-1. Lost 3-0 in the second leg and went out on the away goal.

Simon Stainrod against st johnstone in perth. St johnstone had just equalised, and there fans were celebrating, straight from kick-off, i think mcgivern touches it to stainrod, he shoots from the half-way line and the ball sails over lindsay hamilton's head into the net.
