And.... I am definitely not back peddling. I still feel the same way as I felt at the time of the first post. Longevity is key in football. If you only judge Hladky on his short time with Saints then yes he has performed to a VERY high standard. But if you judge him on his whole career as I have done, then it is bang average. A season and a half isn't what he will be judged on at the end of his career.

I think it is time to draw a line in the sand. I have my opinion and you have yours. I prefer to judge players on longevity. That is why I would put a lot of our past GK's ahead of him.

You certainly know how to twist words. I said he was average at Liberec. He has been exceptional for us. ......... And I said he is "decent" overall. My 'decent' opinion comes from having seen him over a 5 year period. He played around 30 times for Liberec over a 4 year period, which was plenty time to prove himself there

OK, what about a no. 2 who you have seen and thought was average (as the Slovan Liberec thought of Hladky) ?

I am also 'probably' the exception who knew of him/seen him play before he came.

I will add to my previous comments though. Somebody at St Mirren saw something in him. Fair play to whoever that was. He has certainly done us a turn.

Mainly because you only have memories of the 'St Mirren' Vaclav. I saw him plenty times before and he was bang average during that period. Do you think he was performing like this in the Czech league???? If he was, he wouldn't be with us.

OK, let me put it another way for you. The point I am trying to make is that Hladky has certainly saved the best of his career for us. Before us, he did absolutely zero, hence why we were able to get him in the first place. I know you and everyone else are basing your opinion on the last year and a half (for obvious reasons), but I knew him before he came to Saints and he did absolute nothing of note in his career. This is why I only rate him as 'decent'. Performing exceptionally for a year and a half of your career doesn't make you exceptional in my opinion. If I had only known him for this year and a half, I would have the same opinion as everyone else no doubt. A question for you regarding Liberec fans being surprised..... If you heard that Lyness or any of the other 2nd choice keepers had gone to Liberec and in a year and a half was being touted as a one of the best keepers in the clubs history, wouldn't you be a wee bit surprised?

I am definitely Not changing my opinion. As I said at the beginning he is a decent keeper. The only thing I went on to say is that he had an exceptional year and a half in Paisley. But, I also saw him for 4 years struggle to hold down a place in Liberec. Everytime he was given a chance he never did enough to hold down his place. That he is a 'decent' keeper is my opinion As for everything else, that is all a Fact!!! Like it or lump

So, if you read my post, why did you write........ "Like everyone else has said, I also can only conclude this poster hasn't seen much of Hladky" Actually I would say FOR Sure that I have seen more of Hladky's career than most(if not all) Saints fans. I will say it again, before he came to Saints he had a very underwhelming career. He has certainly upped his game since he went to Paisley and over the last year and a half he has performed at an exceptional level. But, I also saw his career before Paisley and it was nothing worth mentioning. I am perhaps being a little unfair by judging him over the last 5 years as opposed to just his time at Saints.

Actually, I managed to attend 10 games last season(not bad for living 1500 miles away) and watched almost all of the remaining online. I think I only didn't manage to see maybe 2 or 3 games. .........and yes I do believe Samson was slightly better. Also, having lived over here for 10 years, I follow Czech football just as much as I do Scottish football, and I saw Hladky play at Liberec and Brno before that. long before anybody at St Mirren had ever heard of him. Let's just say, at no point did he ever 'set the heather on fire' over here. Hence why all the Slovan Liberec fans that I know are stunned that he is worshipped so much in Paisley. I am not slating him, I think he is a decent keeper (since he has been at Saints) and definitely one of the better keepers we have had. But, I will be very surprised if he goes onto MUCH bigger than us. He has been able to speak to teams since January and if someone was really keen to get him, they would have him now on a PCA. I think he will end up signing a new contract with us. I hope he does.

I know I am going to get shot to pieces for this, but I think Craig Samson was better. Yes, Hladky has been decent, but nothing special. He seems to have acquired legendary status based on the penalty shootout in the playoff. I live in Czech Rep and when I speak to people here who support his former club Liberec, they are genuinely stunned when I tell them how much Saints fans love him. He spent most of his time in CZ as a number two. My opinion is that he is definitely decent, but not somebody who cannot be replaced easily.

Can't remember the last time we even looked like taking anything from Celtic away. We always approach these games so negatively in terms of tactics, whereas I have seen countless other teams go there and give it a go. I would rather we went down kicking. Always hoping though! COYS

Totally agree. Championship player at best. I don't know what Goodwin sees in him. I think he must have a couple of dodgy photos of JG.

It is more the team I would like to see rather than what I expect. I fully expect Waters to play, but I still see him as the main weaklink in the team. JG really seems to like him though. I hope he can prove me wrong, but I would say Waters is a Championship player at best.
