  1. So you believe you're personally capable of executing a seven year old child? I think you may have had one too many beers tonight, sir! I find that hard to believe. I am not disregarding the grief in this case, which I believe I can imagine - I imagine the parents would be inconsolable, hysterical, wracked with guilt, incapable of work or socialising and may well need to be sedated. I don't think executing a minor is likely to change any of that.
  2. Jew isn't an ethnicity. https://support.ancestry.co.uk/s/article/European-Jewish-as-an-Ethnicity https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_ethnic_divisions
  3. I remember seeing a clip of the mother shouting "hang the bastards!" It's totally understandable. Do you think your grief would be lessened by the thought of the murderer being executed? I don't have kids, no.
  4. Why would I want to do a thing like that? It's obvious their answer would be driven by emotion and grief. There's a reason that we have a judiciary system. I don't think you really mean that. Just to clarify, you're telling me that if a seven year old boy was found to be the perpetrator, you would want him to be executed? Could you "pull the lever" (or push the button, plunge the syringe) yourself?
  5. I have created a thread you might like in General Discussion! Surely you wouldn't want to execute a child, if it turned out they were under 18?
  6. When in Belfast to see our game against Linfield, I visited The Crumlin Road Gaol, which I highly recommend. As well as learning about the history of the prison over the years, I learned many interesting facts, such as the origin of the expression "has the cat got your tongue?", which refers to the cat o'nine tails, and was a question posed to prisoners when they had screamed so much they could no longer make any noise. However, the highlight for me was the condemned cell and the execution chamber. I was disappointed I couldn't visit the drop room. It was last used to hang Robert McGladdery in 1961, and as I am about twenty pages away from completing the book I bought there, which details McGladdery's crime, it got me wondering about capital punishment. I understand the majority of the electorate are, or at least were, in favour of capital punishment. It appears that this is a topic that has never previously been discussed on this forum, which surprises me. I have friends and family with a variety of different opinions - from revulsion at the very idea that people could entertain such barbarism to a friend who thinks "hanging's too good for them" and would like to see murderers hung, drawn and quartered in a public square. For: 1) It may have a deterrent effect (see Isaac Ehrlich's paper for a pro-deterrence argument). 2) It's just in crimes of murder (a life for a life). 3) It could be cheaper than incarceration for life (I know the US appeal system makes it more expensive - but the act of executing a murderer saves the costs incurred to feed, accommodate a prisoner and the staff required to ensure he doesn't escape). Against: 1) You could execute the wrong man. 2) The state can be seen to be perpetrating cold blooded murder as a form of revenge (after capturing a criminal, he is at the mercy of the state). 3) It could be used by the state to persecute political opponents or oppress citizens. That's not an exhaustive list, but it's what comes to mind. I will not vote yet and slip mine in later so as not to influence the poll, appear impartial and keep my own view private.
  7. I just read about that! Nine years old! I can only assume the perpetrators are kids.
  8. Yes, I was once conned into buying a book on Nazi occultism, but it was absolute rubbish. It's difficult to discern fact from fiction with Hitler and the Occult. Certainly there was widespread use of the runes and alleged bizarre rituals at Wewelsburg. How much of it is exaggerated is unclear, though. Many Ukrainian nationalists appear to adore the Nazis, as they saw them as liberators, though they also don't appear to be antisemitic and are happy to be governed by Zelensky, who is Jewish. I think mostly it is a way of expressing anti-USSR sentiment, which is understandable. However what is utterly disgusting is how they have treated pro-Russians in their society, particularly since 2014. I think this is the documentary I saw on it, though can't recall precisely:
  9. What sort of soup do you make? I'd like some vege soup recipes, if anyone has any.
  10. How many tickets have they sold? There's only one section open on our website and about ten seats have been sold.
  11. The Soviet Union, Communist China, Cambodia, etc were all secular states and between them killed approximately 100 million people. Nazi Germany was not religious, either. Hitler was at best agnostic, and was obsessed by the idea of a Darwinian struggle where the weak should make way for the strong - eugenics, both on an individual level and in terms of ethnic groups. He did believe that religion is useful and his planned seemed to be to utilise Christianity - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Positive_Christianity - but change its tenets dramatically, as the idea that God's chosen people were the Jews and that He became incarnate as a Jew was always likely to stick in his craw a little. He also had a soft spot for Islam - https://www.wsj.com/articles/book-review-ataturk-in-the-nazi-imagination-by-stefan-ihrig-and-islam-and-nazi-germanys-war-by-david-motadel-1421441724 So those bashing Christianity have something in common with Hitler...
  12. What has someone's religion got to do with it? Ethnicity. Surely you're aware of the concept of secular Jews? I doubt he was very religious, being so senior in the Communist Party. Anyway, I'm merely pointing out that many Ukrainians have a pathological hatred of the Russians which they justify with the Holodomor, whilst the architects of that terrible period were not Russian. Communist brutality was not limited to the Ukraine, but happened all across the USSR and in China, Cambodia, Vietnam, Cuba and North Korea.
  13. I'm well aware of the Holodomor, sir! It happened as a result of the orders of Josef Stalin, a Georgian, whose policy was implemented by Lazar Kaganovich, a Yiddish speaking Jew. Millions of ethnic Russians were the victims of Stalin's policies, and so I am unsure why they should be held responsible for the actions of a Georgian and a Jew.
  14. That's great! What he needs to learn is that his president is worth $500 million and that the war is part of the Wolfowitz Doctrine outlined years ago: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolfowitz_Doctrine
  15. With inflation at 9%, it might be worth considerably less in...is it twenty years' time? Remember it's interest free, too.
  16. @HSS has already posted it, but here's the text: Source: https://www.smisa.net/news-archive/5-general-smisa-news/332-smisa-members-quarterly-meeting
  17. Thanks, I have been before. It's overpriced and very average. I have been to many Paisley restaurants, just hoping there's some wee gem I haven't heard about.
  18. Oh, and I won't. I didn't think you would be!
  19. Can anyone recommend any decent restaurants in Paisley? Ideally I'm looking for a Sunday roast prior to the game on Sunday. I wasn't thinking about spicy food, however if the place is really good then I'll consider it. I have been recommended Gabriels (why no apostrophe, btw?), but it seems to be pub chain food which is probably heated in a microwave.
  20. Stealing my lines! I will be at church on Sunday, btw. 😎
  21. I hope Motherwell go through on Thursday, but win on penalties! This early in the season that should have an impact on them for Sunday, particularly as they will have to travel back, too.
