Guest Expecting Rain
Maybe in the team hotel afterwards but definitely not in the game. Pretty sure Trevor Brooking scored only goal in 1-0 win. But then what would i know? I wasn't born then and got the question from an old 80's Saints Programme. bernard albrecht
Pretty sure it was a rare Brooking header.
Bill Lees
Yep - 'twas - a Brooking header at ankle height - only goal in the game, won the cup.
chingford
On the shelf behind me is a wee trophy I'm quite proud of. I won it in season 79-80. It reads - West Ham Player of the Year. I tell folk who notice it that I swung the ball across for Trevor at the height he liked them and he nodded it in. The Irons won the Cup: the rest is history... (or maybe it's utter s***e like the da Vinci Code...) I WAS Player of the Year for West Ham in season 79-80...but it was for West Ham College, part of Norf East London Poly (now Uni of East London). I was 35 and a bit... playing against teenage bloody students all over the South East. From being a nippy winger in my youth, I'd transformed intae a lethal stopping machine... mainly cos I was too slow to kick the ball at the feet of the young yins, honest Ref! Crap tale and crap trophy, too.
