ST SID
Driven by the "should we hate the despicable english b'st'rt's" thread: 1. L'amour est un oiseau rebelle - Carmen (Apparently a new version of Carmen is being made with J-Lo in the lead, hankies at the ready and not for the sad bit. 2. Somewhere - West Side Story 3. Behind Closed Doors - Charlie Rich (brazenly but well misued in recent zerotolerance ad by the ever ingenious HEBS) 4. My Sugar Coated Chocolate Boy - Joyce Brite 5. Strange Fruit - Billie Holiday And a worthy mention for a groundbreaking song: Yes, my bucket's got a hole in it Yes, my bucket's got a hole in it Yes, my bucket's got a hole in it I can't buy no beer Well, I went upon a mountain I looked down in the sea I seen the crowds and the fishes Doing the be bop beep Cause my bucket's got a hole in it Yes, my bucket's got a hole in it Yes, my bucket's got a hole in it I can't buy no beer Well, I'm standing on the corner With a bucket in my hand I'm a waitin' for a woman That ain't got no man Cause my bucket's got a hole in it Yes, my bucket's got a hole in it Yes, my bucket's got a hole in it I can't buy no beer Well, me and my baby We bought a Ford And now we sit together On the running board Cause my bucket's got a hole in it Yes, my bucket's got a hole in it Yes, my bucket's got a hole in it I can't buy no beer
A Pedant Writes
Ahem. I feel I should point out that the title of this discussion thread refers to "Anti-Anglophobe" songs. Since an Anglophobe is one who dislikes the English, this would actually mean songs for people who like the English - which does not appear to be the general thrust or theme of the thread. I fear that St Sid has made a serious error here. I just thought I would helpfully point that out ....

Anglophobe is indeed someone who dislikes the English but this does not mean Anti-Anglophobe is pro-English, rather it means against (Anti) those who do not like the English. I just thought I'd helpfully point that out.

ST SID
Rank Badjin is spot on, good to see a fellow intellectual in this thread. The songs represent the spirit of the anti-anglophobe.

Is this what the whole clique thing was about? People obviously sticking up for others, at the expence of others? Frankly, its a poor thread anyway. So who cares one could argue! Rothesay Saint
Think I see, how about these. 1. England my home - Levellers 2. People are people - Depeche Mode 3. I hate Scotland - Ballboy 4. English Civil War - The Clash 5. God save the queen - Sex Pistols err maybe I didn't get the point after all.

Kermit - I am a member of no clique and only know about 3 people on this board (even then only vaguely). I was simply pointing out that the pedant was wrong and its always good to out-pedant a pedant.
