    • Saturday at 3:00pm, that should see a decent crowd.
    • Cuthbert Killin Many will remember Cuthbert, certainly most  locals  born up to about 1970, and probably many more will have heard his name, most likely in the oft asked question "do you remember Cuthbert ?" Indeed Cuthbert was a very memorable man. . He would often be seen walking around Paisley, Renfrew, and no doubt various other locations he'd be familiar with, dressed in his Yellow Sou'wester, Cup and Cane in hand. and usually muttering away whilst hitting himself with his stick. He had his regular haunts to visit to say hello and probably be offered a Cup of Tea or another drink, or gratuity of some sort.  Some children were scared of him others sadly ridiculed him as a figure of fun, unsympathetically in ignorance of his condition which today would be classed as a 'learning disability', said at the time to have been caused due to being 'super brainy' however he was actually kindly and gentle and given the chance would genuinely ask "what's YOUR name ?".  Cuthbert was born in 1916, and was the youngest of 6 children born to Archibald and Jessie Killin. Archie was a commercial traveller selling Cornflower. Cuthbert lived with and was cared for by his sisters at home in Barshaw Drive. Sadly, Cuthbert was accidentally killed on the 25th Feb 1978. He was hit by an ice-cream van reversing into Izzy's Ice Cream Factory at the Renfrew Ferry. I've searched for years for a photo of Cuthbert, scouring literally hundreds of photos of Renfrewshire towns, peering at any pedestrians to try to catch a glipse , but to no avail. Finally an appeal by Brian McQuire of Paisley.org came good when Les Orr matched Brians appeal with the photo you see here.  Roddy          Credits -  Text adapted from an article by Paul Neilston on the   'Remo'  Group page  Photo - Les Orr
