  1. Thanks. Has a better ring to it. It’s what I meant to say. 🙂
  2. That’s weird...I’m sure I clicked on a thread about Jim Goodwin and his appointment at St. Mirren...totally weird!... ”Mad Goodwin serves another touchline ban” is my prediction for headline of the year.
  3. There is always a slight risk I guess that Spalding will turn out to be unlike Mourinho in some key areas... In terms of predictions...and based on the early games, I'd say that SMFC will be battling it out with Raith, QoS and Morton to decide 4th - 7th place. Livingston, Dumbarton and Alloa I predict will battle it out for relegation. The Rangers will probably do a Hearts, Hibs and Falkirk will contest the second playoff tie.
  4. What a typical and crappy response. Nobody asks you to "quantify" everything you say on here, it's an opinion, the author is in no way obliged to "quantify" anything, the opinion is based on subjective knowledge of the state of the team, the league, etc... Have a word.
  5. Just seen the new kit for the first time...instantly impressed, very nice indeed.
  6. What was the number of season tickets sold last year?
  7. Doubt that would ever work, who would you buy such a ticket from for example? Cash would need to be divided up between all clubs participating in such a venture, and they would all need to play ball for it to work. I can see the point of the idea when the objective is to get folk into an otherwise empty stadium...there are difficulties when you include clubs like Hearts, Aberdeen and the uglies who tend to bring more support than others, and also are more likely to sell out the home end with the option to acutely cut the away allocation. For any club the option of putting home fans first needs to be there, which means guarantees about away allocations in advance of the season might be undesirable. The only ones who can help mobilise the away support of smaller clubs are the clubs themselves, for bigger clubs like Hearts the loyalty points system works well since demand tends to be good for away games, for SMFC it wouldn't work so well since the question is not who gets the away tickets, but who wants them, and what can we do to make you go
  8. Should have went for Locke when TC got the boot, done well last season and at least Hearts went down fighting at this time last year. Plus...in the event of going down...his record against H1b5 is pretty decent much better shout than Ian "5-1" Murray. I think the main thing is that they sort out all the board nonsense, whoever comes in needs to know they can put down some sort of plan and have a go at it...having board room crap going on in the background is never helpful on any level...especially considering that it's very likely to be a relatively inexperienced manager at the helm next season.
  9. Learn his trade in the lower leagues you say...now we just need to find a team heading for the lower leagues who require a manager...oh...wait...
  10. All pretty quiet in the what if thread tonight... Maybe it's something to do with being absolutely humiliated on live Tv twice in the space of a week...
  11. But there will be...yes there will be changes, not as many as a lot of people are shouting for probably, the big one will be if the board changes, or to what extent, something will change...then there will be the usual soundbites about moving in a different direction etc etc... St. Mirren will be a lot weaker for quite some time in my opinion, I don't see anything drastic in the clubs future though i.e. going into Admin or coming straight back up...buckle up and get used to the Championship I think...
  12. Well...it is the worst ever top league in living memory...so probably...
  13. He is not a proper manager, he has no experience, of course he will not get the job done after being lobbed in at the deep end, he doesn't deserve the bulk of criticism, that should be the idiots who put him in the job in the first place as a cost cutting exercise. He did accept the job, which is fair enough, but the board certainly didn't do him many favours.
  14. On the subject of the strip...I'd be interested to know how much St. Mirren get for that hideous logo on the front...I would guess not as much playing in the Championship due to potentially less Tv exposure etc...would definitely be worth getting rid if possible. Also...the design...surely they want to sell kits...it surprises me that more clubs don't at least consult the fans before launching these things...St. Mirren are definitely due an absolute screamer of a kit next season and no mistake...I'm talking minimal logos, no yellow or other garish nonsense, appropriately proportioned stripes...surely it's overdue...
  15. I think people need to remember that while Gary Teale is a terrible manager, he has been let down badly by the board, and this goes for Tommy Craig as well to an extent probably...but certainly Gary Teale. Both these guys were already employed at the club in different roles, and thrown into another which they were realistically never going to do brilliantly. For Tommy Craig...I think that given his age, if he was ever going to prove himself managerially...he would have done so before now...his role should never have exceeded that of a stop gap. That said...I did find him pretty annoying and arrogant during his time in charge...and both are traits which never really compliment blatant tactical incompetence. For Gary Teale...I think that while he hardly makes a great impression as a potential future manager...the board have let him down badly by offering him a role he was never going to turn down...only to leave him so exposed and helpless early in his managerial career. Gary Teale I assume was there to start learning and start to formulate his own ideas...early in his management career...not to hit the ground running with new ideas and take the club forward without some sort of learning curve under his belt. Instead of working his way up the ladder as a new coach in the game, building his own ideas and gaining confidence along the way, GT now needs to live with the fact his first 5 months as a manager resulted in relegation...they have thrown him a curve ball...and then shot him in the face. While I don't particularly like Gary Teale...calls for him to be sacked are ridiculous...because he should never have been given the job in the first place...not in those circumstances. The only way the board will gain any respect from me on this would be if they somehow have identified that GT will be a fantastic future manager...and they are willing to give him appropriate time to find his own way in charge...however...given their previous record for such major decisions...I wouldn't bet on it being the case. The SMFC board have ultimately hung him out to dry...
  16. Oh dear... Actually, My point IS valid...it is an opinion, we obviously disagree, but it doesn't make mines invalid Secondly, my mention of the League cup was a small part of a general post about St. Mirren being on a downward spiral...it was certain members of the forum who have taken exception to it, yourself included...obviously...since you did...I have simply given my rationale for having this opinion...I think the League cup is a diddy cup...for reasons I have explained...if you think it's not, then fair enough And for the sake of being on topic...I think St. Mirren will NOT be back anytime soon...
  17. Relative to the other two major honours up for grabs that particular season, it was the weakest of all three, thus it was the diddy...est. The fact that no EUROPA League place was awarded to the winner is the clincher though in terms of labelling it as such...personally speaking. Why don't you tell us why you think it's NOT a diddy cup?
  18. An OF supporter...THAT was loooooooooow!
  19. What actually happened...in case you missed it...was that instead of addressing my point about the League cup being a diddy cup, and challenging the reason why I think it's a diddy cup... someone has instead picked up on the fact I have inadvertently called the Europa League, the Euro League...and subsequently attempted to demonstrate how this invalidates my point...which it doesn't. Just for fun...lets assume I did say Europa...and not Euro...what would be the response then? what is YOUR opinion on that...would likely be "were you there?" "are you a diddy man?" etc etc? all of which is very funny of course. My opinion about the diddy cup is an opinion, I have shared why it is my opinion, if someone else thinks it's a fantastic achievement and worthy of over celebrating for the next 20 years...looking back at it from the bleak cold championship and all that...then fair enough.
  20. Diddy...is a relative term...i.e. the same competition, or a similar competition can have more or less prestige depending on context...I don't know about the cup in 1926...I'd need to go research it and establish its prestige in that historical period... winning a cup is always good...don't get me wrong...beating Celtic, Aberdeen and Hearts en route was an impressive feat for St. Mirren...but my opinion is that the cup itself is (or was in 2013) relatively "diddy" in the context of that particular achievement/reward dynamic.
