  1. I was planning on going to this one, but not so sure now. I think I will see how we do against Livi first. 😑
  2. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67405608
  3. That's great! Just think, he will have more time to spend on here!
  4. Yesterday aside, our two losses have come against the Old Firm - against Rangers we were down to ten men for most of the game and we played very well against the Champions. Our games against Hibs and Dundee have taken place when a bug was going through the squad. I'm not sure it's justifiable to suggest that we're bottom-six candidates just yet. Also playing midweek prior to the Dundee game, when their own players were rested, was not ideal. Everyone has a bad day at the office, particularly when under the weather. We have Livingston and Ross County coming up, let's hope we can get decent results against these.
  5. Agree, I'd take anything. Obviously the more comfortable the win, the better, but three points is surely to be expected?! Let's hope our five internationals return injury free and not too tired. Livi will bring their usual - one man and his dug, so I think a 5,500 crowd tops.
  6. I haven't gone one, but I think you should go for it. Not sure how close you are to retirement, but maybe that would be the best time? You could go on a six month tour of Europe in it.
  7. Safe standing is a good idea, son good in fact, that I proposed it myself ages ago! 😉 The problem with your suggestion is that they'll want to be near the away fans as they then 'feed off each other' (AKA bam one another up) and that creates more atmosphere. Most folk in W7 stand anyway, so why not just make that a safe standing area? ETA; Thank you @Albanian Buddy for the pic. I didn't scroll through the thread before replying.
  8. As an example of my previous comment: the red 'circles' highlight areas where folk are either absent or not participating in the display. The white materials are shiny and look (and probably are) cheap. NONE OF THAT IS INTENDED AS CRITICISM OF THE NORTHBANK BOYS! I reiterate that they do an excellent job. As a SMISA member, I just wish we could perhaps help them with funding. Hopefully, we will have reason to thank the players in the last game of the season and it would be nice to be able to have a lovely display for them. If SMISA can fund materials and perhaps even subsidise/purchase tickets in W7 to ensure it's full, we could see what they could do.
  9. I disagree. I think some of them have been excellent. I think potential problems may be that W7 isn't usually full and possibly the group haven't the financial resources to buy decent materials. However, I think they're very good and I think the club and our support should be encouraging them. Of course, you're entitled to your opinion.
  10. Did anybody get a decent photograph of the Northbank's wonderful display prior to the Hibs game? I received one image, but it did not include the Abbey, which I believe was also part of the display. I think we should devote a thread to the wonderful displays created by the group.
  11. Forgive me, it was a 4 am insomnia post! Even I don't know how I wrote this: I think I meant 'put their religious identity...' Anyway, Israel's a strange country. Although it is a Jewish state, it was also meant to be secular: Tel Aviv has the biggest Pride festival in the Middle East and is a very different place, culturally, to the growing ultra-orthodox communities in Israel. Given the Jewish people are an ethno-religious group, some of whom see Israel as a homeland for the Jews, rather than a religiously Jewish homeland, this might be expected. Then there are the various denominations of Judaism - from ultra-orthodox to liberal. The Law of Return - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_of_Return - also only requires that the individual has one Jewish grandparent! From a religious perspective, Jews and Muslims have far more in common with one another than either do with Christianity! This comparison makes very interesting reading (my emphasis, besides the titles): Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic–Jewish_relations
  12. I'm not disputing what you're claiming, as indeed I am also aware that the Israel supported Hamas against the PLO. However, I find it difficult to believe that the Israelis have ever seen Islam as 'good'. The Israeli leaders will have surely been aware that creating an enemy who believes dying on the battlefield for Allah will lead to paradise and 72 virgins, is likely a far more formidable foe than one who doesn't believe that. I would imagine a far more likely explanation would have been to create factionalism within the Palestinian nationalist movement. Furthermore, it seems obvious to me that an Islamic-inspired movement is likely to naturally appeal to the world's Muslim population, in excess of 1 billion people, and particularly those of countries in the Middle East. Muslims tend to pure their religious identity beyond all others - nationality, race, etc. The other thing I would add, which I hope is obvious, is that a government (or an individual) may well conceal their true motivation for following a policy. The notion that the Israelis would believe something as simplistic as religious people are good, particularly if you know anything about the history of Mohammed and Islam, suggests that you believe they have a childlike innocence. 'By way of deception though shalt do war', is Mossad's former motto. Israel's besieged mentality, could be argued to be beneficial in that it unifies their people and also gets them military aid from abroad. It also wins them sympathy and diverts attention away from their expansion into the West Bank and justifies their treatment of the Palestinian people. Furthermore, previous wars have led to territorial gains and there's no reason to suppose that future conflicts, like the one now, will not lead to them, for example, taking control of Gaza once again.
  13. Meaning folk might get banned? I heard today that many of our players have been ill with some sort of virus. Might that account for the dreadful performance?
  14. We have a good, very capable team. But we almost giften them a goal from the start, with Taylor losing possession in the box. Maybe playing midweek didn't help? I genuinely think we could finish in the top four, but today's display was shocking and appalling.
  15. I'm terrible for it. I watched a film some months ago, that was set in the 1940s or '50s. Someone used the term 'train station' instead of 'railway station' and it is anachronistic, also I saw one when 'bathroom' was used instead of toilet or lavatory; same point. These are American terms that have crept into British English and I find them far more annoying than is healthy, but I just cannot help myself. I looked up his height and he's 5 foot 4 inches tall! Come on! 😆
  16. I'm just watching this drama now (available on the STV player) and finding it absolutely enthralling. It's very, very well done and I highly recommend it. There's just one thing that really annoys me and it will seem very petty to some. However, Toby Jones plays the senior detective and he's a borderline midget. Didn't the police have minimum height requirements up until relatively recently? I thought you had to be six foot to be a copper. As I say, it may seem like a trivial thing, but the thought is reoccurring every time he appears and it really detracts from my enjoyment of the show. Surely they could have cast someone more appropriate? Or perhaps I'm wrong. Anyway, that aside, I cannot recommend it enough.
  17. I saw that. Of course, this is in a club's best interests: - if people believe they need to buy tickets before the game, most will do so. Then the money's safely in the club's coffers, even if the weather's crap or someone wakes up with a terrible hangover or a bit of flu, and might otherwise have decided not to go. - at the 11th hour you announce tickets will be sold on the day and you still benefit from walk ups. It makes sense. Anyway, it's due to be a bright and sunny day in Dundee, though it will be pretty cold. I can't sleep, which is annoying as I do not have to get up for another couple of hours.
  18. Total respect for Jamie. I bought an unofficial Jamie McGrath badge, which I keep with my St. Mirren memorabilia. I think the lad's something special. Here's his goal last night:
  19. Well, I think it's better referred to as 'intuition', however, one cannot bar folk from certain jobs based on a hunch.
  20. What's the Earth's curvature got to do with any of this? What a strange comment! I don't know that Brand is guilty of any criminal activities. He's currently innocent. As for Saville, you're correct he was never convicted! It's very possible that the reason he was never charged with any crime is precisely because he had friends in high places. Likewise, it's very suspicious that the allegations against Brand and Assange have come about because of their criticism of the elite. It may well be that Brand is guilty of these things. However, even if that is the case, I cannot help but think the allegations are being made known because of his recent stance. Furthermore, I imagine that Epstein Island may well have been a way of controlling certain folk though blackmail. Epstein Island isn't some sort of mad conspiracy theory, btw, it's very real. Not only that but his 'suicide' is very suspicious. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Saint_James,_U.S._Virgin_Islands There was a similar story about MPs that made the press some years ago: https://theweek.com/society/61473/why-would-there-be-so-many-paedophiles-in-westminster Funnily enough, despite the two detectives coming forward, it all went quiet and I believe the alleged victim was actually jailed for about 15 years (for something like conspiracy to pervert the course of justice). If you honestly believe Machiavellian shenanigans do not occur in the corridors of power, or that there is an elite so privileged that they're essentially untouchable, then I think you're either very naive, ignorant or possibly short of a shilling; and I don't mean that to sound rude.
  21. Taken in isolation, of course anybody who raises millions of pounds for charitable causes has done a good thing. The fact is Saville's charitable causes was considered to be subterfuge for his criminal activities nullifies them, as they were purely for selfish gain. Firstly, Brand's innocent until proven guilty and as you have stated, these are merely allegations (I'm unsure why you have used quotation marks). Secondly, I find that the timing of them to to be suspicious and perhaps a way for the rich and powerful to discredit him. Julian Assange had sexual allegations levelled at him, which I also find suspicious. It means that folk tend to dismiss the good work done by these people as they're tainted by the nature of the allegations and therefore are immediately assumed to have a poor moral character. It's the timing of the allegations that's interesting.
  22. I looked at Lewis Jamieson's stats yesterday and he scored 8 in 18 for Airdrieonians. That's very impressive. Once Ayunga's back we'll be spoilt for choice.
  23. Wow. Just seen this and have to applaud Brand:
