  1. Balfy my dear old chap. The main issues I found with Barshaw were the very real potential for human excrement in the holes and local Gallowhill ne’erdowells charging about using the flagpoles as spears. There were no bunkers or water on Barshaw but there were plenty of other hazards. In all truth I cut my golfing teeth at Barshaw and must have played there hundreds of times. I genuinely wouldn’t even think of playing there now though.
  2. I’m up for a game if it can be organised when I’m up. I play off 13 at Royal Jersey which is probably like a 2 handicap on you peasants’ little poncey parkland courses. Proper man’s traditional seaside links. Good to hear all the views on the other courses. I did suspect some of them might be a bit boring.
  3. In that case give me a wee run down on the ones I said I haven't played ya doughball. You're no following the point of this thread are you?
  4. He certainly didn't take any prisoners! I distinctly remember at the 2-2 game at Airdrie at the end of the 76/77 season, the Airdrie right winger clearly did something to piss oor John off. Mowat sat on top of him on the deck and proceeded to punch 7 bells out of him. I'm not even convinced Mowat even got sent off? It was simpler times back then. Anyone else remember that?
  5. I'm ashamed to say, I'm very guilty of this one. Don't know why coz I know it's bollocks. It's like some sort of affliction. The one I hate is "literally" when it isnae feckin literally at all. I was literally shittin masel. I really hope not.
  6. Looks braw. Will definitely give that a go. Played any of the others I haven't?
  7. Good spot re Mar Hall. Imagine it to be a bit like Earline though? Thinking about down that way I also missed Gleddoch. Does that still exist? Never played there either.
  8. Harsh in the extreme and arguably down right stupid to say Mullen offers nothing. The lad is genuine as they come and tries his heart out every game he plays. Fair enough it seems his style doesn’t suit the way OK wants to play and maybe it’s time for a wee change, but completely disagree with your view that he offers nothing.
  9. Well I am blun as a bat, but to me it looks far too big to be a coin. Also I reckon a tightly scrunched up pie tray if thrown from relatively near the front would easily reach him.
  10. That is so obviously pie foil. Sorry Oaky, I’ve watched it and I’m honestly answering that it looks like pie foil. You can even tell by the way it bounces off him.
  11. Apparently there were coin throwing incidents by Aberdeen fans at Pittodrie the other week. Grampian Police are putting undercover cops on the street before the next home game looking out for people asking for change of 5p.
  12. Agree on the Lansdowne. When I played there the Rosemount was far superior in every way. The number one course in Angus for me is and always will be Carnoustie. Magestic.
  13. Gotcthe match recorded so I’ll have a look. Not disputing anything, just passing on what I’d heard.
  14. Rosemount is a lovely course but it wouldn’t even make it into my top 20. Not even my favourite course in Angus! Interestingly I’m led to believe that the Lansdowne Course is now regarded as the better of the two. It certainly wasn’t when I played both of them on the same day about 20 years ago. It was pretty new then mind you.
  15. I knew my pie foil story had legs. I’m claiming an exclusive on that.
  16. For family reasons probably likely to be spending a fair bit of my holidays in Scotland next year. Thinking of bringing my clubs up and playing a few of the courses in the area. Got me thinking about the ones I’ve played and seeking views on the ones I haven’t. Paisley - Good course with spectacular views over Paisley/Glasgow, Only downside is that it’s prone to getting boggy. Renfrew - Never played it Elderslie - Good course. Very varied with lots of different holes. Only downside is potential for Foxbar neds to nick your ball. Cochrane Castle - Never played it. Erskine - Not bad but found it a bit boring and repetitive. Ralston - Never played it. Lochwinnoch - Nice course. Haven’t played it for about 30 years. Believe they’ve changed the layout a bit since then. Only downside was a good few holes where you’re playing around a hill. Kilmacolm - Lovely course. Old Ranfurly - Nice course spoiled a little by a couple of daft holes. Ranfurly Castle - Never played it. Caldwell (is Uplawmoor in Renfrewshire) - Never played it. Fereneze (is Barrhead in Renfrewshire) - Decent course. Very similar to Paisley. Views welcome especially on the ones I haven’t played. Also have I missed any? For the avoidance of doubt I’ve deliberately not included Barshaw.
  17. You are absolutely correct that people shouldn’t throw anything, but yes, I think it does matter. What if it was a feather? Or a cheesy wotsit. Surely whether the object can actually cause physical harm does “matter”.
  18. The rounds of one guy said it to another guy who said it to me Should be fairly easy to substantiate or not.
  19. Rumour doing the rounds that the object in question was not in fact a coin but a scrunched up pie foil tray. Anyone close enough to say categorically if this is bollocks?
  20. Are you at it?? They are entirely relevant. The (daft) point the OP seemed to be making is how can two teams who BETWEEN THEM can only muster a crowd of 1400, be outperforming us. He didn’t actually mention finances at all. We’re just assuming he must have meant that, because as daft as that notion is on its own, he couldn’t possibly just have meant that the simple fact they had smaller supports is relevant to their performances.
  21. I'm pretty sure bullfighting would trump football. There's a few deaths at virtually every match.
  22. Don't be too quick to judge him Oaky unless you've been in a pub when the Kilmacolm GC bootboys face off against the Old Ranfurly Division.
  23. A classic case of not getting to the end of the thread before responding. Not only had Munoz already made the same point as me, but also I misunderstood your point. For clarity, do I think the OF have a higher percentage of idiots than us? Yes, and not only idiots, I mean extremely vile individuals. Do I think any other team in Scotland has a higher percentage? No.
  24. Genetically programmed? No. But I reckon a huge number of OF fans are environmentally programmed to be scumbags.
  25. It would be typical of our away fan base and Dundee's home fan base, which was the point being made. I'm sure the crowd at Hamilton was entirely typical of Hamilton's home crowd and Livi's away support. So you're still daft Even dafter though is linking fan base to performance on the pitch. Unless of course that fan base is significantly larger e.g. the OF.
