Apparently barring all the friendly tic clientele made it financially unviable... ;-)

Two Carts, the former 'Wigan Penitentiary' has also shut.
  3. I remember when 'Borgia' opened back in 1992 (IIRC), as one of the first tenants of the brand new, and at the time largely unopened Paisley Centre, next door where Caffufals is was a Shoprite supermarket and I'm sure there was a wee florist in that tiny corner unit where Borgia meets the path leading to the entrance to the mall by the side door. It's changed hands the odd time, changed layouts etc, but managed to keep going. I had lot's of good times over the years, but stopped going in around 5 years ago once turned 40 and that certain 'old fart' feeling started to come calling, especially in a 'young un's' bar populated with attractive buxom barmaids ! Good luck to John in his future endeavours, hopefully he'll open a decent wee howff somewhere, with a good jukebox, and a spot on the corner of the bar for an auld fart...????
  4. Apparently they can still be used as gloveless fingers...
  5. Nah I don't have mates either...????
  6. He was always going to close it after the fraud scam thing got sorted. Just decided to get one more christmas/new year out of it first.

  8. Both girls found and returned to "home" by Police according to a Police Scotland statement just released. I suppose it's now a question of if and when they try it again.
  9. In practice you only pay these ridiculous amounts if you keep deferring re-payment, not that I'm condoning them of course. I borrowed £100 off Wonga for a week a few years ago and paid back about £110.

Works fine if you don't write 'big' with a capital B...????

    Aye, big John's chucked it.
  15. Must admit I can't recall the specific date but it was about season 1980/81, a cup tie against Stenhousemuir at Love St, aged about 9 or 10. Recall standing at the wall in the bend where the Love St end became the North Bank and thinking 'wow' I'd never seen so many people in the one place ! ????

Although you have to wonder how much the loss of passing football trade has to do with it, when Love Street closed nearly seven years ago and only offered a fortnightly on average cash injection for a couple of hours either side of the match. I'd say the overall decline in pub attendance, supermarket 12 pack drinkers, smoking ban and the generational shift away from the 'wee howffs' has claimed another victim.

Rod Stewart (@rodstewart) October 29, 2015 The 70-year-old singer, who has just released his new album Another Country, reminisced about his favourite Scottish bar. He spoke about the Wee Barrel in Paisley saying, "I haven't been there for a while in fact they may have knocked it down. But it really was a good Scottish pub." http://m.eveningtimes.co.uk/sport/13924906.Singer_Rod_Stewart_reveals_who_his_favourite_Celtic_FC_player_is_and_where_he_goes_for_a_tipple_in_Scotland/
  19. Yes apparently the Germans bombed the horseshoe in an early attempt at supernatural warfare. Fortunately for us all, Indiana Jones beat them at their own game !
  20. Has anyone asked Ian Murray about the horseshoe ?
  21. My gut feeling is that with 12 months to go until the new bridge opens is that the current one has the potential to have already seen it's last traffic. As said, once the engineering surveys are fully completed it may well prove to be a bridge too far, if you pardon the expression. Looking at similar surveys on the Kingston Bridge and White Cart Viaduct which lead to over ten years of repairs, versus a much older and infinitely more complex structure, I won't be surprised if they say it's too expensive to bother fixing and it's fecked. Either that or the re-imagined GARL project gets cancelled twice to pay for Mother Edinburgh Superior...

The Saporito signage has gone up at St James St, so that's defo a goer then. It say's 'Saporito Restaurant'.
  23. Does that mean the first thing in Paisley international travellors will see will the ruins of the site of the great battle of Pitchers Sports ?
  24. I never use airport taxis, miserable bawbags, always phone a local cab if going home, and company account if on business entitlement.
