  1. Time to start supporting Tonga. And they're not even playing England!
  2. Had a wee day oot yesterday, back now.Fair enough, I didn't know that. In my defence, it was a decision made 8 years after the company disappeared and 8 years after I'd stopped working for them. The platform hitting the bridge was still sod all to do with UiE or its management (it was on the barge operated by a specialist) or the quality of the work done on the project you're banging on about. Have you figured that out yet or are you going to continue making an arse of yourself about it?
  3. On that note, I think I'm off to be sick....
  4. It's a link that's posted, not the full video. Don't ask me how or why it shows up like that on the forum, it's a techy thing. I'm sure one of the forum geeks will enlighten us.
  5. You mean the Captain platform? The one that had left the yard and was on the barge and nothing to do with UiE when it hit the bridge? Is that the one you're talking about? No, I wasn't, why do you ask? Can someone do this man a favour and take the shovel off his hands, please. :lol
  6. You're losing it, listen again. There was no such contract. Take that on board, go and read what I've written and stop making such an arse of yourself.
  7. Well done you, I'm glad you made that statement. I never worked on Bluewater, it's a product of your imagination. Like so much else you post in this forum.
  8. Your memory's fading with the years, mate, it's Stingray, not Thunderbirds. Here she is in all her glory.
  9. UiE did 2 ships in their entire history, that's about the only thing you've got right in both your posts. Apart from that, and your anecdotal stories which I'm in no position to vouch for or against, every "fact" you aver is incorrect. Go and read my first post again, I was senior management on one of them and I know what I'm talking about. I also had a brother-in-law working as a tin basher on the project so I had that perspective, too. By your own admission, and I'm paraphrasing your claim, you were in charge of a squad of drunks and plumbers. I'll let the forum judge who knows what they're talking about. I never mentioned "Centre of Excellence," merely passed on what the client on the project I worked on said. A client with worldwide experience who knew what that were talking about.
  10. Everything in this paragraph is wrong so I give no credence whatsoever to the rest of your post. Unless you're admitting to being one of the alcoholics you referred to? Which would explain a lot....
  11. I have my limited experience in the yards, one 2 year project on the lower Clyde in the late 90's in which I was responsible for £200m of subcontracts (this isn't meant as showing off, only to demonstrate that it was a major project and that I was pretty senior in the organisation). According to the client on that job, the quality of the finished product was second to none. Given that the client was a major oil company and its personnel had worldwide experience, I'm happy to accept their word for it wrt the technical skills involved. The problem for that client was that productivity was second to everyone, even allowing for the rework required to deal with the lesser standard of workmanship experienced elsewhere. It's one of my biggest regrets that the workforce couldn't see beyond the next paypoke on that particular job, getting it done more efficiently would have ensured many more paypokes after that one was finished. So, in short, from real experience, the problem isn't the skill set, the skills are still there, The problem is with the attitude to getting the job done. And I, for one, have no idea how to fix that.
  12. Thanks, bluto, could never figure out why they were both right.
  13. Your report button will wear out if you start reporting nutcases....
  14. Only to you, when the figures you source don't fit your argument. They show Ireland going from -ve to +ve growth whilst the UK goes from +ve to -ve in the same period. And the you get out the old, reliable smear to attempt to disguise the fact that your argument is completely unfounded. Only this time it isn't "natsi" you use, you've gone straight for Nazi. You really are a disgusting individual at times. Eta - using smilies doesn't make it any more acceptable.
  15. And, from the same source, Irish GDP growth is 0.8%, UK's is -0.1%, Irish GDP is $41,700, UK's is $36,700 and, incredibly, given how much better off we are according to you, Ireland has 5.5% of it's population below the poverty line whilst the UK has 14%. Still, don't let facts get in the way of a good discussion when you can dumb it down with the good old "natsi" smear. Sid would be so proud.....
  16. Yet Ireland is still better off than the UK as I demonstrated earlier in this thread.
  17. Democracy in action, bluto, the people of Scotland elected a party that said they would hold a referendum as part of their manifesto. They're keeping a manifesto promise - another example of how Scotland differs from the UK.
  18. As long as it's fresh it is (didn't someone already say that?). Had a reheat more than once and it's not so clever - it's all in the timing
