Ricky Gervais summed it up really well. The world is full of people who are taking hard-core positions on absolutely everything based on the square root of f**k all actual knowledge or a 5 minute Google search. Their positions are not well thought out and simple questions expose this and they then turn to abuse to defend themselves. It's a ridiculous state of affairs. I blame our schooling system which actively suppresses individuality and quashes any questioning or scrutiny of authority. People then leave school unable to debate properly or even discuss contentious issues without fighting and this rarely gets corrected. Don't even get me started on the issue of so many school leavers unable to understand basic home finances, unable to write properly, unable to spell in many cases and unable to understand the basics of their chosen subject when they start university. The standard of submitted work at university level (even amongst the best students) needs to be seen to be believed (glad I'm out of academia now). If I was king, I'd sack every school teacher and start again from scratch. An almost worthless profession in its current form. Anyway, that's my 2am rant over.

TBH, I'm a big fearty when it comes to flying. I also don't have a passport and neither does my wife so that might be an issue using ferries to France. So I'm quite happy to stay in the UK. Would be nice to see others get a chance to get on with their lives though and get a bit of sun for once.

What makes you sure this article is stating facts? That headline for a start, looks like it was wrtten by a child. The one thing I won't miss when this is all done is the copius amounts of wilful bullshitting being engaged in by seemingly everyone. Nobody seems to be remotely interested in the truth - just finding things which back their view. We are seeing the very worst of the internet and social media. The internet was designed to give everyone access to information, facts and opinions. Right now though it seems to be adding no value to anything and that's a real shame.

Sorry but they really haven't. Their borders will need to remain shut until they vaccinate everyone. You only have to look at Australia last week to see what happens when they relax a little. An entire area locked down in total panic. No country has got this right but ironically enough the UK countries and Israel appear to be leading the way out of this via vaccination and they deserve a lot of credit for this.

The real story from the data is that despite relatively small increases in infections amongst younger people, that does not appear to be translating into more deaths and hospitalisations - both of these continue to rapidly drop. She appears to be "reaching" for a story amongst the data to support her view that the pandemic is still a scary thing and (wilfully?) overlooking the real story. That's academics for you.

We are too slow to close them down and glacial-like in getting forwards at times. Not enough creativity in midfield although the Faroes are pretty tight when defending. When we press them they fold like a pack of cards so would like to see more of that. Would also like to see Fraser running at their defence a bit more. Oh and it would be nice if one of our players could shoot without the ball ending up 20 miles above the fecking goal. Other than that, at least we are winning. Austria had to come from behind against them. Some save from Gordon to keep them out.

Thanks. I agree that it's not a lot of money to live off but you've got to include all payments (including housing and child elements) when talking about how much money you get on UC. Any idea how much you can get for housing? Will it cover all rent or just part of it? I'm not sure how they can justify under 25s getting less money. Their bills are not exactly smaller. I'm less concerned about relative poverty than absolute poverty but I do take your point that it's still not a great life. It's certainly not enough for anyone to be describing people in this situation as "laughing at the rest of us". That's a pretty spiteful, nasty attitude TBH.

Oh I wouldn't disagree with that and would never make that claim. There are scroungers out there and they will always exist but you can't be screwing over the vast majority of other people to get at this pretty small group though. IMO you probably will never get rid of them but that is a price worth paying if you can end poverty.
