  1. On soccer Saturday in the last 10 minutes there were 5 straight reds. Every one of them (handballs and 'last man') led to penalties. Apart from one.
  2. Not even November and even fourth place is beyond us. Just not good enough. Not even close. Bring back Tommy Craig...
  3. Three pages in the run up to what used to be a 'big' game. The apathy around the club is growing week by week.
  4. Dashed by Alan feckin Main and Paul feckin Hartley!!! Never forget!
  5. I'll be walking the Waterloo battlefield on Saturday afternoon. An away victory for the plucky underdog Scots (with a little help from some Germans, Dutch, a massive quantity of Prussians... and a few English). As I look down from Hougemont, I'll be having one eye on the approaching French marauders, and the other on SkySports mobile app. Like the 3-1 Saints vibe, so will go with that. Nobody expected us to do anything v QoS. Nobody expects us to do anything on Saturday. It would be the Saints way to win this.
  6. I remember during the school holidays in 79 (or 80) being able to walk in to the old St Mirren Park and watch pre-season training. The thing that sticks in my mind most is watching Peter Weir, after the rest had gone to the baths, practising running and crossing and freekicks and corners. Poor guy only had one football, so probably helped his fitness as well! Not sure if Saints do one to one training for players (other than goalies) but if Morgan has a very strong skillset, but one key area that needs improvement, then I hope that's being worked on.
  7. Don't know how long was supposed to be added on, but Falkirk scored on 47:15; and the ref blew his whistle on the restart... at 48.15. So either there were 2 minutes, and he let them carry on to finish their attack. Or there were 3 or more minutes and he decided that taking a minute to restart after scoring a goal is 'normal'. BTW, Beaton is not a Championship ref, most of his games are Premiership. Though he has refereed one other Championship game this season.... Saints 1 Dumbarton 2. A game where Saints had a very good penalty shout turned down, and a few minutes later he gives Dumbarton a pretty soft one. He's taken charge of us 12 times. First time was a 2-0 away end of season dead rubber against Killie in May 2012. We've not won any of the 11 subsequent games. Maybe somebody pissed him off. Although I am willing to accept that with our win rate over the last 3 years, there may be other refs who have taken charge of us 11 times without us having a win!
  8. Ah! I see a pattern here. Was United's first goal not one of the worst offside decisions ever? Saints cruising, mistake from the officials and the game changes. Cifti's injury time winner was also offiside, but nowhere near as bad as the one for their first. I genuinely can't see how there could be a referee's conspiracy against us, but games like today (2 red cards not given) and the other game you highlighted where we let go a 2 goal lead, were definitely ones where refereeing mistakes had an impact.
  9. Correct. Striker and defender going for the ball is often 50/50. Thommo seemed to be getting pulled up 75/25, and I really don't think he was fouling. When Shankland came on, he was also getting the same treatment from the Falkirk defenders - and the Falkirk defenders were getting away with it. Again, not tough decisions to give, especially when some of them were right in front of the west stand linesman - but nope, play on. Very frustrating.
  10. Do you think Mark Kerr should have had a second yellow for his challenge on Goodwin? Do you think Goodwin would have received a yellow for such a challenge? Especially given the person on the other end would have rolled around in agony, and his team mates would have surrounded the ref. Do you think if Falkirk had gone down to 10 men when it was 2-1 Saints that they'd have won the game? Not saying we weren't poor in the second half, just pointing out that the refereeing favoured Falkirk. The Kerr decision was not a tough one, and it also contributed to our defeat.
  11. Ah okay, was sure he was booked in the first half - makes it even more inexplicable that Beaton let him off then. The only reason for Kerr not getting a yellow for his challenge on Goodwin was surely because it'd have meant a red. I assumed the reason for being lenient with Taiwo was the same.
  12. Pretty sure Taiwo was booked in the first half. In the second he did a dive, which the ref acknowledged, but didn't yellow him. Did another couple of fouls, plus feigned injury. Not as clear as Kerr, but if he got Kerr right (easy decision) that would have been enough.
  13. John Beaton... could have sent off Taiwo, or the guy who crocked McMullen. SHOULD have sent off Mark Kerr. Gave foul after foul to Falkirk to help them keep the pressure on and stop us from getting any momentum going. He gave so many soft fouls against Thommo he ended up having to book him. Not saying we shouldn't have been able to rise above that in the second half, but if Kerr walks for the barge on Goodwin at 2-1 Saints, it's a different game.
  14. Fantastic result yesterday! And sounded like the experience 'spine' played a big part. I do wonder though if Murray maybe does have some kind of problem with Goodwin, at least if the Sunday Mail (I know!) report is to believed: "And Murray reckons his veterans can help guide Buddies’ current crop of youngsters in their promotion bid. The ex-Dumbarton boss said: “Andy Webster, Steven Thompson and Jamie Langfield all did very well. We’re going to need their experience as the season progresses." Seems like one veteran missing from that list?
  15. Never venture in here, but saw the 'Natsi' word in the heading of a 'recent article' on the Fanzone page. Never thought I'd find something to make me respect Law Stud even less but, well, I was wrong.
  16. I take it if our game is not shown on Sportscene, there'll be no web version for 'SPFL TV' either?
  17. 9 times out of 10 the defender gets a foul for that.
  18. Would be astonished if McGregor ended up anywhere other than Hibs.
  19. I really like the new ground - and that's from someone who was there in the pre-seating days in the old North Bank. But this is a very good point. We've got seats in the very back row at the middle of the west stand - so probably best view you can get - and while it's good, if you're much nearer the front the view is poor. Much as I'd hate to have a two-sided stadium like the Accies, and I think the raised stands look a bit weird, from a view perspective if everything was raised 10 feet views all round would be miles better - and we'd have loads more room under the stands. Oh.... and filled in corners :-)
  20. I really expected this seasons 'insurance' bets against Saints to be way less profitable than last season. Lost on Rangers to win by 3. But £5 on Dumbarton at 5/1 on Saturday sadly paid out. And the £10 I've got at 15/4 on Annan is looking like it might come up too. After the bright spots against Rangers I would not have believed we'd have lost to Dumbarton, and be behind against Annan. And with Naismith gone, our squad looking really lightweight. How many of that 3-4 still to come in are actually going to materialise? And can we expect any of them to make the massive difference it looks like we need!
  21. Has any other Saints keeper lost a goal so early in his debut?
