  1. My cut off point for transfer income was when GLS became chairman. We've also brought in compensation for Jack Ross and James Fowler on top of player transfers... and then mutually consented oodles of player / manager / coach contracts in those same 3 years.
  2. We also had the option of not having to mutually consent the Scotland U19 goalkeeper we had on our bench when we drew 0-0 with Celtic in Oran Kearney's first game. But I suppose it was very important that the head of the youth academy was allowed to ban him from playing for any St Mirren team (and lose his Scotland place) for sending info on an app in late. (Alfred Morelos spent less time suspended for his sendings off -usually for kicking opponents off the ball during competitive matches last season - than our reserve goalkeeper for his misdemeanor). Goalkeepers who played for us last season or when on the bench: Samson, Rogers, Muir, Lyness, Hladky, Holmes. 6 goalkeepers in 1 season where we had 43 players in the first team in 2018. And some people reckon we still have lots of cash in the bank after transfer fees received for John McGinn, Kyle McAllister, Jason Naismith, Stevie Mallan, Lewis Morgan.
  3. Private messages are a great feature. My view of the Director of Football is that while I thought it might make sense and provide stability and continuity, this transfer window is the type for which the role seemed custom made. We had a change of manager and if we believe Gordon Scott this change of manager was expected. Many managers are now saying they work 6-12 months in advance to prepare for transfer windows. Many St Mirren fans would have expected that since January the club would have been having internal discussions about prospects stepping up from the youth academy to the first team, first team players we wanted to offer contract extensions to, first team players we were expecting bids for, players who would be leaving at the end of their loan deal or end of contract and to have been scouting replacements for 6 months so that when the window opened (or when last season ended) we would have discussions with players and agents and have an idea of what they were looking for and what we could offer. I don't think any fans expected we'd get all our replacements in before pre-season began. We're used to waiting on some loan signings arriving at the last minute. As things stand at the moment, we expected that despite the change of manager we would have made more progress than we've made so far. 14 out and 3 in, isn't great when the league season kicks off this week and when an injury to Gary MacKenzie meant we began our final League Cup game with 1 fit centre half, 1 right full back being played as an emergency centre half, two young central midfielders being played as full backs, a midfield with no wide players, and no new forwards on board since Nazons and Jackson left at the the end of their deals. The only silver lining is that we haven't panic bought yet, and Goodwin is probably correct to replace the 14 hit and miss departures with 4 or 5 better / more expensive players to add to our first 3 signings of the window.
  4. BEK joins Bazil on my ignore list... which is a shame when I normally enjoy his posts.
  5. Wanted by Gordon Scott (STV interview, 13th June) but not mentioned by Oran Kearney (Buddievision interview, 13th June).
  6. How much cash have we got in the bank then? When Jason Naismith and Kyle McAllister were sold in January 2017 it was to finance paying off a share of the sale price to the previous board, and finance paying off Alex Rae abd David Farrell and the players being mutually consented in January and to bring in 11 players that window to save us from relegation to League 1. When Lewis Morgan was sold to Celtic in January 2018 for £300k we were told it would help with cash flow issues - despite the fact we had also sold Stevie Mallan in the summer 2017 window. Have a look at the number of players we have signed and released (as well as managers, assistants, first team coaches) since GLS became chairman. At one point last season we had over 35 first team players on the books, Jack Ross' remnants + Stubbs' 11 signings + Lyness, Ferdinand, Jackson and Hammill + academy players like McPherson, Erhahon, Muir, Jamieson. Since then we have received money for John McGinn's transfer to Aston Villa... possibly coming to us in installments rather than a lump sum. How much of our £900k will have gone on paying off Stubbs and Jackson or mutually consenting guys on 2 or 3 year deals like Kpekawa, King, Heaton or running with a squad of 35 players rather than 22? We have also paid off Kearney since then as well. Have a look at the clubs we were signing players on loan from last season: Manchester United, Rangers, Derby, Brighton, Middlesborough, Aberdeen... I wonder what our share of the wages was for them?
  7. When you say Gordon Scott has backed every manager he has appointed so far... hasn't he just spent all St Mirren and SMISAs cash and not invested a penny of his own? In other words, on top of having higher season ticket sales this season and last season, we've had 2 years of increased prizemoney and something close to, supposedly £2m in transfer fees in less than 3 seasons. The chairman couldn't even honour his pledge to buy fans a St Mirren strip if they beat him in the Paisley 10k 2 years ago.
  8. From February to May McAllister was often on the bench and only began to cement a starting XI place once Dreyer was injured.
  9. BBC updates are not saying whether Goodwin was in our dug out in plenty of time before the game got underway.
  10. What I do know is that very few quality signings who don't have injury problems or attitude problems wait until the season is underway before deciding which club they'd like to play for in the season ahead, unless another club makes their own club an offer they can't refuse.
  11. If we get a result tonight we may indeed still achieve a top 4 finish ... in the group stages of the League Cup!
  12. As much as I think McKenzie has been one of the better signings in the last 4 or 5 years I was surprised he was given another new deal (unless the new deal took account of his injury problems). While he has played a decent number of games in his first couple of seasons he has been injured every season - partly down to throwing his body in harm's way for the sake of the team, last season I think he only featured in six games or thereabouts.
  13. Goggs would burn through £500k in less than a season if the past 3 years are anything to go by... almost £2m received in transfer fees and compensation in 3 seasons (after years of having almost no income from this source), 'record season ticket sales', and our highest share of prizemoney in 4 or 5 years, we'll be loaded and unveiling the quality signings any year now.
  14. ... which is not what the official St Mirren FC club statement said.
  15. While its true i'd forgotten about bonus points, I was thinking more that we'd managed to beat a League 2 side rather than draw and win the penalty shoot out for the bonus points. I wasn't suggesting you had said a word against Goodwin, btw, just as earlier when I posted that by watching buddievision (or BT or live streams online) I was saying you've probably watched as much of St Mirren via telly as most people who go to games and are perfectly able to take an informed view on how we're shaping up this season watching from afar. With the exception us using buddievision you probably have a better view of the game and incidents on replays than people at the game!
  16. Jim turns up for work in good condition to lead training and command respect from the players so as with most other managers of the club is an improvement on Stubbs before a ball is kicked or a player is signed. As I've already said elsewhere in the thread I think Goodwin deserves time, financial backing to sign players, and the club would benefit from having the same manager in place for a few seasons (assuming the board haven't appointed an absolute bombscare of a manager).
  17. That's right. The normally docile GLS ignored Stubbs taking training in an unprofessional manner, ignored his disastrous dealing in the transfer window, ignored performances and results (Kilmarnock and Dumbarton being decent showings in a dozen games in charge), ignored results, ignored dressing room unresult, ignored the deteriorating relationship between Stubbs and the board, ignored the sour relationship between Stubbs and the fans, and sacked Stubbs based on fans posting about the manager on this fans' unofficial forum. Given the truth of what you say, it follows that GLS will cave in to whatever fans post on here. Maybe we'll hire part-time players and reduce ticket prices to £5 for adults? Tony Fitzpatrick has said in his book, there was no plan to sack Stubbs (even after the Hearts game) but because Stubbs had seen a Daily Record story claiming Jim McIntyre was about to get his job he demanded that the board back him or sack him and having been pumped in every game after the flukey win against Dundee and taking into account the factors listed above the board decided that if Stubbs insisted on getting more cash and a public vote of confidence from the board they would rather sack him than back him. Basically, Stubbs was sacked for believing the Daily Record!
  18. I'll let you into a little secret - every one of my posts about Kearney and Goodwin has supported giving them time to sort out the mess they both inherited - Goodwin's mess being created by the board rather than the previous manager.
  19. Goodwin has more managerial experience than Jack Ross had before becoming St Mirren manager (although Ross had been an assistant at Alloa and run Heartsacademy set up for short periods as well). Other than that I think you are over-reacting. I don't think a lot of the Championship winning team can carry a struggling team but most of them are fine in a bottom 6 premiership side so long as there is (as Goodwin wants) 4-5 better quality and experienced players who can carry the team and help the others raise their game again. I'd be tempted to give Flynn the captaincy based on the 2nd half of last season.
  20. Faraway might actually watch as many St Mirren games via buddievision as fans going to matches in person.
  21. The new manager and assistant were in Spain too, leading the training sessions.
