This stops ntl or Virgin seeing what channels you have, it also stops you sending certain types of data to them (which includes your requests for on demand services). dmc
He must not have his talkback scratched off... Exactly! He should watch out as I know someone who was caught with his box for this very reason!!! Better off with a Eurovox box anyway!!

Better off with a Eurovox box anyway!! Yip, the only thing is I don't think you get channel names with the Euro boxes do you, is it not just the frequency of the channels? Edited to add: What happened to your pal who was caught, and why did he let them in the hoose anyway ? johnstonebuddie
Cheapest place to get them? Illegal I guess? Does it need a cable connection?
Svensen
Dont know if I've described this talkback thing properly, there's a connector coming out of the back of your box, one of the lines on the cable boxes circuit board connects to this. When you get your box chipped, the guy takes a screwdriver and scratches this line off the circuit board. Once that's done you have no talkback as its been scratched off and therefore goes nowhere. This stops you getting on-demand but also stops the provider from looking into your box from their office to see if the channels you have are what you have subscribed and are paying for. Losing on demand is a fair trade off when you're getting free Setanta, Sky Sports, Comedy Channels etc. You can buy Eurovox's anywhere on t'Internet, here's one link, They come in at about 100 odd knicker, I'm no sure how good they are I've only ever seen one before and from what I can tell it scans your digital cable and decodes all your channels, kinda like a cable box does but the cable boxes card has encrytpions on it to allow/deny access to the channel you have/haven't paid for. You'll no get on-demand with one of these boxes though. If you're wanting free movies you're best to set yourself up with a bit torrent client but thats prob best left for another thread. Hope this helps. Edited to add: I don't think these boxes are illegal as they'll exploit some loophole by allowing their sale, kinda like radio scanners but I'm sure in the future we'll see the TV providers making moves to cut down their abilities/access. The boy I know that bought his got it off someone in the boozer and it made me wonder why he didn't buy it legit but that's maybe what he was selling. I know someone with an ntl box who doesn't get the movies cos he canny do the whole activation thing with the parental lock they've put on movies after about nine at night. When he presses the red button to enter his code nowt happens. He'd prob be better with one of these Euro bad boys.

All the movie channels are unlocked which can be a bit of a pain, but you can put your own parental lock on anything you don't want the kids to see, and with around a dozen porn channels it is quite a good idea!!
