5 Unfunny Comedies

Having missed all other episodes this series, I'd have to say:

1. Tonight's episode of Bo Selecta 3 :( : WTF happened over the last few months to turn this from hilarious irreverence into total, toe-curlingly awful nonsense? Not even going to attempt witticisms as I am genuinely saddened at how pish it was tonight.

2. Recent episodes of My Family - f**kin' pish that is. Might as well rename the goofy chick Phoebe and just have Ben slip on a banana peel into a pile of Nietzsche manuscripts

3. Everybody Loves Raymond - Memorably dubbed "Everybody Tolerates Raymond" by a friend of mine in the US. Generic, US bland-com nonsense without any of the saving graces of its more illustrious counterparts. I have no idea how it became so successful, actually, yes I do: everybody who watches CBS is already braindead and can't change channels, and Paramount will buy any old s***e these days.

Mrs Slocombe shocks US

US TV bosses have banned Mrs Slocombe as too shocking for Americans.

The British sitcom Are You Being Served? faces being toned down or even axed because of the double entendre jokes, reports The Sun.

Typical lines from the 30-year-old show set in a department store include Molly Sugden as Mrs Slocombe, saying: "It's a wonder I'm here at all. My pussy got soaking wet. I had to dry it out in front of the fire."

The moral clampdown follows Janet Jackson's nipple-revealing performance at the 2004 Superbowl. [...]

US Public Broadcasting Service executive Doug Myrland said: "We're worried. British sitcoms are problematic - they thrive on double entendre."

Personally I find the bulk of American Sitcom's like Friends, Frasier, Sex in the City, MASH and The Cosby Show (in no particular order) far too slick and rarely funny.

PS. How could I have forgotten Billie, an unoriginal, star vehicle for the eponymous ex-Humblebum.

I think you're wrong about M*A*S*H though, every episode had both a comedic plot and a serious one which invariably worked well together.

Well, yes. Until they started allowing the stars to take turns at directing. Then it became self-indulgent s***e. As for the final episode...

Yeah! Far to many comedies have gone on well past their sell-by date. Only Fools and Horses is a prime example of this. Should have ended around the time Damien was born.

Fawlty Towers only ran for two series as John Cleese/Connie Booth thought they couldn't maintain the quality of scripts. Also, I saw earlier in the week the Father Ted scriptwriters saying that by series 3 they were beginning to repeat themselves.

And as for Auf Weidershehn Pet... This was one of my favourite comedy-dramas. But they lost the plot in the one with the Transporter Bridge and I stopped watching it altogether after two episodes of the last series. I really hope they are now going to let it lie.
