  1. Having 2 thugs in the middle of the park is an excellent idea. The great Aberdeen side of the early 80s had Neale Cooper & Neil Simpson in the middle and with McLeish, Miller & Rougvie at the back, they never lost a battle. The Hearts side that blew the title in 86 also had a couple of great thugs in the middle, Neil Berry & Kenny Black. Again, with the likes of Walter Kidd, Craig Levein, Sandy Jardine, Brian Whittaker & Sandy Clark, they could could kick any side of the park. Dicker & Goodwin in the centre of midfield, Thompson up front with Wyle & Campbell playing off him, back to front football and success will follow.
  2. I thought that David Barron was a fantastic player. When fit he was one of the first names that should have been on the team sheet. Fantastic defender. Shame that his career has been effectively ruined by injuries.
  3. Yes, Lee Mair is a good player. As others have stated, he will have his horrors - but so do all defenders. He's not my favoured type of big no nonsense centre half though and his attempts at playing football at the back which cause problems IMO. Plus he's no good in the air. Paul Gallagher however is a terrible keeper.
  4. For a change, I actually agree with you. Indeed, every single goal could be called a defensive mistake.
  5. The usual suspects using a Saints win to abuse fellow Buds. Very sad. Great win, enjoying my beer tonight. Sad that the usual suspects sour it by resorting to personal abuse.
  6. It'll be interesting to see how clueless Lennon tries to squeeze his favourites into the line up today at the expense of a proper plan. Just as well that Harkins is away otherwise he'd really have a headache trying to give everyone a game.
  7. And not a single day goes by without you happy clapping your support for Lennon & Longmuir! The problem that you have is that you don't like anyone having an opinion that is different to yours and when you encounter an opinion that is different to yours you generally end up losing the plot and posting personal abuse!
  8. Better let Manchester City know then...
  9. Can we afford a Butcher? From a Hibs perspective then clearly no. Its from the Inverness perspective that matters however. He's been out of a job for 2 years after being sacked by Brentford. We could clearly have afforded him at that stage. However, leaving that aside, RickMcD states that appointing an untried cheap manager would be depressing. What would be more depressing is appointing an expensive and tried manager! If such a manager has both attributes then we should clearly be staying well clear! Dunderheid masses. Well called RickMcD!
  10. I have no idea whether he wants to be a manager. Its simply my prediction.
  11. As I've mentioned a number of times before, next season's manager at St. Mirren will be Steven Thompson.
  12. My firm belief is that St. Mirren will break even this year just as we have done every single year since the current board took over almost 15 years ago. I believe the BoD have given the manager as much money to spend as they possibly can, just like they have always done.
  13. We have to get rid of Lennon & Craig asap. They are both totally and utterly clueless.
  14. Such experience might make those in charge feel threatened however. As Oaksoft correctly stated in his post, you don't need to have been a professional footballer to be a good coach. But you certainly shouldn't have an inferiority complex...
  15. Indeed. And if you have such experience then you have no chance whatsoever of becoming a youth coach at St. Mirren...
  16. Deary me. Please point out to me where I stated that you need to have been a pro footballer to be a coach. Your post displays ignorance which is quite common for you.
  17. Just had a quick read of the article and see Alan Robertson's name mentioned. He played over 600 first team games for Killie. A quick look through their list of youth coaches highlights a number of ex-professional footballers with hundreds of top class games between them.
  18. Indeed. The Killie youth set up also probably has some ex-professional footballers on the staff!
  19. Are you suggesting that you can't have 2 promising youngsters coming through in the same position??? Indeed, on our recent good run we had 5 players who are all arguably central midfielders - Goodwin, McLean, McGowan, Newton & McGinn - all in the same starting 11 together. I'm not commenting on the article in question - I can't be bothered reading it - not the talents of Slater - I know nothing about him. What I can be certain of however is that you can never ever have too many good players on the books - regardless of their position.
