  1. The Betfred Cup? Surely top sides (like ourselves) usually refer to cup competitions as sideshows or irrelevancies and insist that automatic promotion is our only goal? We must be single-minded next season. P.S. Thanks for the heads-up on the draw.
  2. Shull, there you go again! Not only starting another thread but practically writing the whole damn thing yourself. Didn't you read my advice on the other thread? This St. Mirren thing could become an obsession if you're not careful. Bit early to be worrying about the Betfred Cup when we don't know whether we'll be looking for a new manager before then.
  3. It seems unlikely that Nelms would fly out unless he'd been given some encouragement by JR. If that's the case, it's disappointing from a man who has so often spoken about the importance of trust and togetherness in creating a successful team. However, football these days is a short-term business and I recognise that people must take opportunities which arise when they are doing well. Jack might not be flavour of the month in six months time if Buddies make a poor start to next season, so I suppose he has to consider all offers that come his way right now. This raises the question: what is the future for our club if we are unable to retain a successful manager when we find one. It looks fairly bleak, I think.
  4. If Nelms has flown out to speak to Ross, as reported in the Record, then Dundee MUST get their man. Otherwise anyone else they approach will know that they are second choice. Nelms travelling also indicates that Ross is at least prepared to consider the Dundee job. In which case, my regard for Jack drops considerably. I know that football these days is a cutthroat business, but I thought we had found a man with a bit more integrity than most. If he takes Dundee he will have a reputation as someone who starts jobs but doesn't finish them. I thought he was smarter than that. Even if he stays at Buddies now, I don't think I will look at him in the same way in the future.
  5. Some newspapers reporting that St. Mirren have approached Hearts with a view to signing Gavin Reilly. How does that sit with all the turmoil around JR's position at the moment? Is it an indication that JR will stay and it's business as usual, recruiting players for next season?
  6. Don't do it, Shull! You don't need to live like this! Counselling is available. You can turn your life around!
  7. BBC website says that Gordon Scott knocked back the initial approach from Dundee AND told them that another approach would not be welcome. Like others above, I think Gordon must have been in contact with Jack before making such a definite statement. I hope that's the case and that Jack has agreed to stay.......meantime.
  8. Thought Jack would want to achieve something with Buddies before moving on but just checked and I have seen that he moved around a lot as a player as well. Seems to have a sense of what he wants and not afraid to move on if he feels it's necessary. Previously I was sure he'd stay, now not so sure. Hope it's the right move for him if he does go.
  9. I agree with what Div and others have said above. Dundee is in the Premiership but have significant problems (stadium and squad) which don't make it an attractive club for Jack at the moment. At Buddies, with the players continuing from last year plus those he's brought in recently, he already has the core of a squad ready for next season and excellent playing and training facilities. He knows that if he gets his head down, works hard with the squad and achieves either promotion or a high finish next May, he could be looking at something much more interesting than a move to a struggling club like Dundee.
  10. Dundee won't take Jack Ross.....yet! He has still to prove himself at a decent level. performed well at Alloa, but all he's done at St. Mirren is keep us in the Championship. And he only did that on the last day. That's how it looks from the outside. However, if Buddies are challenging for the Championship towards the end of next season, then other clubs will start sniffing around.
  11. I agree with JB above. Dundee United won't have the same calibre of player available to them next season. Main challengers will be Falkirk, Dunfermline, Morton. United will be behind them, along with QoS and Livingston.
  12. Happy to see Jack bringing in another goalie. Didn't think Billy and Langfield were enough for next season. Good Luck, Ross!
  13. Great news about Kyle. He's a real talent. Glad we'll have him for a while yet. What's the situation regarding Lewis Morgan? If we can keep him as well, we have a really good core of players for next season.
  14. I agree with the above. James didn't do at all badly when he was at QoS but he complements Jack Ross really well. Great management team!
  15. Another great signing for both the club and the player. Doesn't score a huge number of goals, but always looking to get forward, has pace and causes problems for opposing defences. Two years with a team playing positive and exciting football could kickstart his career and take him on to a bigger club. Really looking forward to the start of the season. Jack has already managed to keep several players who were vital to us at the end of last season. Hope he can persuade a few quality new faces to join the Championship's most improved team!
  16. Just echoing the thoughts of others above. Gary was a vital part of our resurgence in the second part of last season, but even before that, when we were struggling, he made so many important interventions and prevented many certain goals from going in. He could definitely play at a higher level, so I was nervous that he wouldn't be with us next season. Disappointed that he's only signed for a year, but who knows what he'll decide to do if we go up or finish in the playoffs?
  17. Like doonhamer checked out the online tickets page this morning and got the 'under maintenance' message. Not good for those of us who want to buy season tickets but live far from the stadium and don't have easy access to the ticket office!
  18. A move for Mallan was always on the cards, given his performances over the last couple of seasons. His contribution in the Jack Ross era has only underlined his continuing development and alerted clubs south of the border to his presence. Disappointed with the fee but, as has been stated above, better to get something now with a possible add-on if he moves on in the future than to let his contract run down and get nothing. In Jack and Gordon we trust!
  19. Totally agree. He's speaking with maturity, authority and real integrity. Clearly has a big future. Just hope no other chairmen were listening. He will definitely move on to bigger things. Pray we can keep him for a while at least.
  20. Powers that be left with no other choice for the latest Manager of the Month award. This man is a class act!!
  21. Anyone know when the season tickets become available?
  22. Fantastic achievement! Well done to the players, Jack and the backroom team! Not only stayed up from a near impossible position at Christmas, but did it playing exciting, positive football. Let's also recognise the fans who backed the team home and especially away these last few months with tremendous support. Everyone deserves a few days off to enjoy the achievement before Jack and the board get down to the next task - keeping as many of the players as possible for next season and recruiting other players who are as good or even better. If this achievement means anything, St. Mirren MUST be challenging at the other end of the table next year. COYS!
  23. Can only echo what's been said above. A privilege to be at the ground today to witness such a dominant and exciting performance by the Buddies. Just hope Jack can keep these lads together for another year. Not worried if we do go into the playoffs. Confident we will beat any of the teams we have to play. Finally, thanks to Julian for posting those interviews. Just put the final touch to what was a fantastic day. Yogi started off being guarded but couldn't help himself at the end and gave his players the pasting they deserved!
  24. Just seen on TV that Hibs are playing fringe players tonight. Also likely to do the same against Ayr on Saturday.
